New Moon Auditions

Dear Letters To Twilight,

I was fortunate enough to sneak a peek at the Phoenix casting call for New Moon. My friends Erika and Lisa (fellow Twilighters) were happy to keep me company on the journey. Erika even used her Mistress voice on me to make me go inside the building by myself. You can thank her for the pictures I took inside, really. I wasn’t sure I was allowed, be as gringa as they come. Everyone was very nice, and I really didn’t even get any looks for being there, even though I clearly didn’t fit the description of the casting call.

There were about 100 people crammed into the lobby of the Phoenix Indian Center when I got there. The people running the show were calling people in groups by age.  The atmosphere in the lobby was tense, and I expected a sort of fangirl SQUEE. Nope! There was very quiet murmur considering the number of people. I didn’t see anyone practicing their lines or anything, unless they were doing it silently. Most people were talking to a buddy quietly. I took what pictures I could around the door where the light was best. (I didn’t want to bother anyone with my flash.)

These are the front doors. People are pressed up against the glass. It really was that crowded in there.

If you look on the left side of the doors you’ll see a reflection of a woman in a bluish top and black pants. That’s Celene, a Twilight Mom. She was very nice and made us gringas feel right at home. She was waiting for a friend and fellow Twilight Mom to arrive.

The next picture is of the first person I saw come out of the building. I knew her first as #28, as that's the number I saw on her card. She's the one in blue on the right.

This next picture is a really cute boy that was all the way across the lobby from me. I tried to get a better picture of him for you but the guy he’s talking to kept getting in the way. I think you can tell that he had an amazing smile.

*Insert note from UC- if this guy gets the part, I WILL be writing a letter to him. Yum*

We HOPE you get the part, Leandra!

The final pic I have to share brings it full circle. I suddenly realized that #28 was just in front of me, so I tapped her on the shoulder. Let me tell you, she’s more adorable in person. She nervously and very politely excused herself, thinking she was in my way. I told her I just wanted to ask her a few questions. She had gotten the information ahead of time, but the lines they were reading were also on the casting card. She very graciously allowed me to take her picture with her casting card. I told her it was for our site, so if you’re reading this, Leandra Velasquez, “Hi! My friends and I hope you nailed it and we get to see you on the big screen in November!”

If you can’t read the audition piece on the card, here’s what it says.

Boy: Hey, you’re not going to faint or puke or anything?
Girl: I don’t think so.
Boy: You don’t look so good. Maybe you should sit down.
Girl: Okay. Aren’t you worried about them at all?
Boy: Worried? Why?
Girl: They could hurt each other!

Interesting choice, huh?

We <3 Christa. She was our VERY FIRST commenter/reader. She has a great blog where she occasionally writes about the Twi-world. I wonder if she mentioned our Twi-alentine’s Day Contest to the Native American auditioners. It’d be great to get some of their crafts into the contest :)

Ahhh! It took me a minute, but isn’t that the scene when Sam and Bella are watching Jacob annnndddd… [crap… I’ve totally gone blank] the other werewolf, the one with the short temper, start fighting because Jacob brought Bella and has told her about them being werewolves?! Sounds/looks like it…

  • themoonisdown

oh man this makes me soooo sad i don’t live in PHX anymore i totally would have gone AND auditioned. pull out some head shots and get a tan.

@christa do you know what parts they were casting for? awesome investigative journalism!

  • Christa

Yes, it’s that’s the scene. Jacob and Paul have just fursploded and run into the woods. Quil and Jared are about to take Bella to Emily’s. I assume they used that scene so the didn’t give away who they were reading for, because there should be no other girls in that scene but Bella. Leandra didn’t know who everyone was reading for. As far as I know the only girl they should be casting is Emily. I’ve read online that Melissa Rosenburg said Leah is not in it, and they don’t seem to be casting the age group for Sue.

  • Christa

DOH! No, I didn’t mention the contest. I did tell Leandra that these pics would be here. I hope she remembers the site name. I mentioned it to Celene too for that matter. Maybe they’ll drop by and tell their friends.

In case you’re still curious about who might show up at the auditions, it’s pretty serious stuff. I posted pictures and if you follow the link you’ll see the audition scene that was chosen in Phoenix so you can practice in advance if they use the same one :D

Please take cell phone pictures, etc. and e-mail me at adriennejenkins@verizon.net and I’ll load them on this page. For those Twilighters that can’t make it around the world to audition, they’re probably curious about the whole experience. It would be great if someone from the Okanagan is chosen today. Good luck to everyone auditioning (Sunday).

Why Ariona??? Are they shooting certain scenes there?

  • SoWasRed

Nice scoop! And good luck to all!
Ive always been jealous of those with Native American ethnicity…such beautiful complexion, hair, eyes…everything! Lucky ducks!
And I am toe-toe-lee allll about having another gorg Taylor Lautner look-a-like to stare at on screen…perhaps with a few more years on his age so that I dont feel like such a perv for the dirty thoughts that pop up when I see him haha.

  • Christa

I’m sure they chose Phoenix because Maricopa county has the second largest Native American population in the US, next to Los Angeles. I’m sure they’ve already exhausted LA, if the stories are true and they had a hard time finding Jacob.

I love Christa too, she was our first commenter also!

@Christa- this was great! Leandra is too cute! Hope she gets a part- that would be awesome!
Your so lucky to live in Phoenix!
