That Bree book

Read me.. Or else I'll turn creepier

Dear Stephenie,

I feel really weird writing you about That Bree book since I’m going to be talking to you about it in person next week (AH) By the way, did you just hear that? That was the sound of thousands of LTT readers remembering “That Bree book” came out this weekend. Pretend you didn’t hear that and that all of them were at their favorite book store at the butt crack of dawn Saturday morning.

Anyway, my overall observation about That Bree book (I’ll be honest, I have no idea what the real title is and I totally don’t feel like looking it up at this current moment) is that all fans of Twilight should read it. When talking to a friend who hasn’t read it, she said:

Friend: UC, I’m not one of your blog readers, so don’t be diplomatic with me. Should I really read it?

to which I responded

UC: Yes! I mean it. You’re a Twilight fan & it’s an entertaining read. Do it.

I’m not getting paid to say that. Unless you plan to hand me a check when I see you next week (AH). By the way, when I told my dad aka boss that I was skipping town for 2 days just one week before leaving for a week to go to LA for Eclipse craziness he said, “Well, honey, that sounds like a great opportunity. Are they paying you?” To which I laughed. I mean, hello?!! I’d pay YOU to interview you (wait- maybe not. Don’t take me seriously and ask for a check when I see you next week (AH)) So I politely said, “No- the opportunity to meet a hero is enough payment.” And he responded, “You should call them back & say you’ll only do that if they give you $100,000.” He was serious.

Sigh.. remember when I wasn't a vampire and was just a regular, boring girl?

Anyway, your fans SHOULD read That Bree book because it’s great to read something new from you after such a long time. Plus it’s an easy read. I blew through it in 2 sittings- took me 3 hours tops. Not to mention the introduction you include is just win. It really made me excited to meet you. Like, you actually care still. And that’s super refreshing after the rumors & gossip we’ve heard surrounding Eclipse. We thought Kristen was the only one left who cared so much.

Without giving anything away (though there’s not much to give away- Bree dies, guys) here are some of my thoughts on the book.

  • It feels so young. Maybe that’s your ability to be in the shoes of a 15 year old & think and write as she would, but Twilight never felt this young. In fact it wasn’t until I was done the saga that I even knew it was a Young Adult series. (Finding the books on the shelf next to The Goosebumps Series wasn’t a dead giveaway to me, apparently) Or maybe it’s the lack of Edward as that character we want so badly we don’t care if an 8 year old made him up.
  • Diego, a vampire friendly with Bree, who prefers the flavor of the humans living south of the border (that is, until he comes across Tequila Tomas in Forks) said “Let’s DO THIS” on page 56! Was that borrowed from Mel Mel Rosenberg? Or was that a shout out to us LTTers? Either way, High-five for that brilliant line!
  • Once, somewhere on a page I forgot to save, you said “organism.” It took me 3 reads through the sentence before I realized Bree was not, in fact, having an orgasm. Did you put that in there to remind us that we’ve been reading too much fanfic in your writing absence?
  • Um, Fred? Really? A vampire named Fred? And then there’s Diego!? Who are THEY named after? Did you and Nacho get a fight one night & to get back at him you named him after your first two boyfriends at BYU? Were all the good vampire names taken? PLUS the characters were teenage runaways in their human days. Last time I was on the streets and a Philadelphia flash mob passed me by, I didn’t hear any 16 year olds yelling for “Fred” to come help them snatch a pocket book from a Granny. Just sayin.’ “Spencer” may have been a better choice for the American while “Jose” is always a safe spanish choice.
  • Hey! I'm Ed- I mean Fred

Gah- I miss the Cullens. There I was, just enjoying a little story about a vampire I forgot existed and BAM- suddenly the Cullens appear! I must’ve had the biggest, goofiest smile on my face. The gang was all back together again! There was Carlisle, Alice, Jasper with all his scars and the Red Head- wait what? The RED HEAD? I know that Edward is described as having reddish-brown hair by Bella, but Bree kept calling Edward THE RED HEAD. I didn’t know who she meant until the ending when Bree thought,

“Little did the Cullens know, I had a vampire super power of my own. I knew the future- the WHOLE future- even more than Alice. If they had saved me from the Volturi, I can promise you I would’ve helped Alice pack Bella’s & the RED HEAD’s honeymoon bags- and I would’ve thrown in PLENTY of condoms with hand-drawn instructions from Carlisle. But, oh well, they killed me.”

Okay that didn’t happen, but it wasn’t until Edward spoke to Bella that I realized it was him. I know we all have our own picture of Edward in our minds (Rob) plus my first kiss, first boyfriend and first (and only) husband were all red-heads, but Edward? Described as a RED HEAD? I felt that description was more fitting for a vampire named Fred…

So… do I buy the whole “I’ve been thinking about Bree’s story ever since I wrote Eclipse & wanted to share it with all my devoted fans” story? No (but most people will, don’t worry!) And I still maintain that you were pressured by your publishing company to put out something new. Not to mention your friends must be nagging you ever other day to finish something about their favorite characters- I don’t blame you wanting to get them ALL off your back. And for the devoted Twilight fan, That Bree Story is a quick, easy fun read that will make any true fan crack a big ol’ Cullen Smile once the Cullens appear! I’ll admit- I kinda wish you hadn’t killed off Bree too. It would’ve been intresting to see her adapt to the vegetarian lifestyle. Not to mention maybe she could have tracked down her friend “Fred” and we’d have an excuse to make a lot of “Fredward” jokes.

R.I.P. Bree,

LOVED this…was made more true by the fact that I did read organism as orgasm here twice before realising my mistake….Oh where goes my innocence? And to think I only started reading canon and got sucked into (twss) a world of smut….

I blame Master of the universe… and the submissive…and the dominant….and the trai………

  • TeamJorts

This book just confuses me. I don’t understand why it needed to happen. It’s just like the post yesterday about the unknown Twilight Saga actors. But I’ll read it cause I’m dedicated and I guess it’s the only way we’ll hear first hand about the Eclipse battle! And UC if you say it’s worth it I trust your judgement. ;)

    • kitkat

You probably don’t need my opinion after UC’s recommendation, but I actually found it interesting. I was going to read it just to say I had, but I liked that it gave you a deeper look into the politics of the vampire world. There was interesting backstory on Victoria’s plan. It was a lot better thought out than you would expect, and a lot more underhanded on the Volturi’s part. I now understand why they were so sure it would come to a fight in BD.

  • http://twitter.com/Jayde17 Jayde

I haven’t read it yet. Came out here at 2.05pm Monday (holy random, weird ass time, Batman!). I’ll probs buy it from Kmart or something. It’ll be fairly cheap there, hopefully under $15. My work are trying to flog it off for $20. Umm, I’m a poor uni student who has concert tix and a huge phone bill to pay for, like I’m gonna pay $20!! Plus that’s all I paid for each of the books. If it was Midnight Sun I woulda ever pre-ordered it… (hint hint, Steph!). But yes, I’ll probs get it next week… or the week after when I have more moolah. But honestly, I’m pretty sure I’m only gonna be reading it to see more of the Cullens. I heart me some Cullens <3

    • natashadushi

      word! Midnight Sun FTW

    • http://letterstotwilight.com unintendedchoice

First, you have Kmart!? And second, $20!???? It was $9.01 with tax here….

      • http://Twitter.com/Jayde17 Jayde

Yeh we have Kmart! I love it and its cheapness.
And $9?!? Frick. That’s SO cheap!!

        • Michelle

Jayde you’re an Aussie right? I’m trying to remember back to the introduce yourself post… you’re the gal who visited Perth, right?

Anyhoo – I find books to be SO expensive here in Australia. For a new release paperback novel (not novella) you’d expect to pay about $25 minimum, right? Usually $30.

Books in the UK and the US I see on Amazon are so much cheaper, even when you factor in the exchange rate. I usually get my UK-based Nana books for Xmas and her b’day, and I can get 3 for 15 pounds… so about $35 or thereabouts. INCLUDING postage.

This is a big gripe of mine. Why are they so bloody expensive?

  • SarahG

Thank you for being honest about the Bree book! I gotta admit, when I found out it was available online, for free, I didn’t feel the need to rush to my nearest bookstore to make it part of my collection. Does that make me a bad fan? If I like it enough after my free reading, I might just buy it for my Nook (curse you, techie peeps, for figuring out how to keep us from downloading/printing it!!!). I’m still undecided at this point though since I just made it through the first few pages last night.

    • http://letterstotwilight.com unintendedchoice

I liked buying it b/c #1 it wasn’t super expensive. #2 it looks pretty next to my other books (all the way at the BACK of the bookshelf b/c Mr. Choice is too embarrassed)

      • Stacey

At least you get to see your books a little. My Twilight books have old accounting textbooks and Stephen Kings novels put in front of them by my husband. He says that they are giving him nightmares about Rob Pattinson. Not that he has actually read the books or seen the movies.

      • Bea

My husband HAS read (and enjoyed) the books and they’re still behind other books on the shelf… mostly because he’s embarassed to have read and enjoyed them. But he’s a big enough nerd that they’re fronted by Narnia and Lord of the Rings.

  • tuesdaymidnight

I haven’t read it yet. Will I? Yes. Because I have a problem… I’m still kind of obsessed with these damn sparkly vampires.

Was I the only one who thought, at least until the end,”Fred” was really Jasper undercover in the book…..especially in light of what was revealed?(trying not to spoil the book for anyone who hasn’t read it yet)

    • ahz1

I never thought of that. It would explain Fred’s power. But I don’t think so. They will probably use Fred in Breaking Dawn.

  • natashadushi

I will buy it as soon as it comes out in paperback (I love paperbacks!) I am not that jumpy to read Bree asap like I am dying to read Midnight sun.
Good luck next week with SM!!!

  • NotWutheringHeights

I read it! Admittedly, I got all warm and gooey with the appearance of the Cullens. I liked that Bree called Edward the Red Head. The poor girl was in the throws of a wicked thirst and wanted to drink Bella dry. She wasn’t that focused on accurate hair colour descriptions.

Overall, I liked it. Too short. A tease in fact.

Beware folks… it’s only available free online until 5th July I think so don’t hesitate. And it’s not downloadable like Midnight Sun (and they claim not printable either).

I didn’t plan to buy the hardcover as I only have the Twi books in audio right now. I’m waiting for the Mega Boxset to launch, complete with Midnight Sun. A girl can only hope!

  • toooldforthis

I pulled up the online site and skipped to the end when the Cullens showed up.

I couldn’t get over the red-head. I’m sorry, I just couldn’t. Like you, UC, it took me a little while to figure out who she was referring to. When I finally determined that it was Edward, I was so distraught I have no idea what happened in the 10 pages I read, because Edward was a red-head.

Edward has bronze hair, which is mostly brown with a few copper highlights. Edward is not a red-head.

Bree deserved to die, simply for that description alone.

    • http://letterstotwilight.com unintendedchoice

      Amen

    • http://cantgoogleeverything.blogspot.com Rachel B

I’m confused….isnt copper kind of a red hair color?? no?? Not like Ron Wesley red but like auburn kind of red? Thats what I always imagined.

      • TeamSeth

        EDDIE THE GINGER!

        • toooldforthis

          No………just, no.

          • Lovintherain

So Edward is “The Unidentified Redhead”?

          • TeamSeth

hehehe I wrote it, and then I thought, I should’ve written “Ginger Eddie” so it could have a double entendre

      • lindsaylee

copper was my bridesmaids color (November wedding… dont judge), i assure you, its not read.

    • Michelle

      LMBO @ TooOld! Loves it.

I always thought his hair should have been more reddish, because that’s how Beller described it…that’s how I pictured it. Not Ronald McDonald red but brownish red…I dunno how to explain it…like it was in Twilight. LOL.

      • Michelle

Yes, I’m replying to myself…what the heck is up with Rob playing red heads? Red heads are like what, 1 in a gazillion yet 2 of his “big” characters should be “red heads”? WFE denied the red, too! Maybe it’s a secret passion of his…red hair. LOL.

PS – What the heck does BIJ stand for?

        • The Old One

BIJ = Big In Japan, which refers to a certain photo of Rob in an airport, which may or may not have shown him in a “state of excitement”. Some say it was a manip. This was discussed at great length (TWSS) over at LTR a few months ago.

          • Michelle

Thanks for that…dang, I missed that discussion and pic… Wahhhh.

I sat at the Cafe Press LTT Store thinking “big in Japan…” huh? LOL. Then the BIJ I should have put it all together.

          • Alice_NaA

Of course this made me google “Robert Pattinson” +”big in Japan”. That’s normal.

    • http://www.blogger.com/profile/17005652040143206647 Luxie

LOL Toooldforthis Bahaha ‘Bree deserved to die, simply for that description alone.’
Yeah that def irked me to no end. I started imagining Edward with some orphan Annie color hair! Doesn’t Bree realize the one always described as ‘the redhead’ was always HER —victoria… NOT Edward!!!

      • toooldforthis

I think it would have worked better if, instead of describing Edward by his hair color, Bree had said something like:

“And then I saw another member of the strange vampire coven. He was the most beautiful creature I had ever laid eyes on. He was god-like, an adonis. I immediately forgot about the burning thirst in my throat and started focusing on another kind of thirst…. The only thing I wanted in this world was to rip his clothes off.”

Now see, if she had done that, there would be no doubt in our minds who she was talking about. As it was, we were all going, “Who the hell has red hair?”

p.s. – I may read too much fan fiction.

        • lindsaylee

amen, i had to read through it two or three times to figure out who the child vamp was referring to, because, lets be honest, the whole book i was thinking who cares about Fred and Diego, where is my boyfriend?

          • toooldforthis

You want to be REALLY honest? I didn’t even read the whole book. I was serious when I said I skipped to the Cullen’s. I just don’t care about Bree. Yeah, I said it. I’m a bad fan. I just want Edward.

    • mariemarie

“Edward has bronze hair, which is mostly brown with a few copper highlights. Edward is not a red-head.”

“Bree deserved to die, simply for that description alone”

      You are amazing.

    • TeamJacobEdward

      Hear! Hear!

My mind made him a dark brunette with an ever-so-subtle auburn/copper tint. Possibly because my mind couldn’t make him a true red head AND lust intensely over him… They were just two different concepts my mind couldn’t merge together, it could not make them co-exist. So it took the red and made it a shade I could lust after.

  • NotWutheringHeights

Forgot to say… I liked Freaky Fred.

And rockin’ polls there girls. We love a good vote!

    • http://cantgoogleeverything.blogspot.com Rachel B

I like Fred, too! Now that I’ve read about him, I wish he had shown up in Breaking Dawn….oh well. Maybe in some future, not gonna get written story, Nesse & Jacob will run into Fred or something.

      • sjaantje

        I see a fanfiction idea.
Fred comes to Forks several years later in search of answers for what happened that day and to Bree. He comes across Jacob and Nesse instantly falls for Nesse. Using his “talent” he is able to keep Jacob away long enough and steal Nesse away…

    • Beth

I liked, Fred, too. Ok, the name…not so much. The character was cool, though. I’d like to know more about him.

I want to know what gangs UC knows in Philly that have a Spencer in their crew.

      • http://cantgoogleeverything.blogspot.com Rachel B

        South Philly rep-ra-sent!!

  • http://cantgoogleeverything.blogspot.com Rachel B

I’m SO GLAD you posted this because I was starting to think I was the only one who read this book! Phew- I am normal! My normalcy is further reaffirmed by your polls above in which I voted honestly and ended up in the highest percentage groups for both! Again, phew!

As for the book- entertaining enough. I think they will use some of the scenes from it in Eclipse (ahem- Volturi!). I dont want to say anything else because I dont want to give away spoilers for people who havent read it! Man I really want to say more…oh well.

  • northernlights

“I would’ve helped Alice pack Bella’s & the RED HEAD’s honeymoon bags- and I would’ve thrown in PLENTY of condoms with hand-drawn instructions from Carlisle”

If this was in the book, I would buy it. UC, you made my day. Thank you!

  • IPreferPaul

*Spoiler – don’t read if you don’t want Bree details*

I read it in two sittings, starting at about 2pm on Monday. Like you, it only took a few hours to complete. I was not impressed at all.

Do you notice how Bree has some of Bella’s super-vampire tricks? Like, she holds her breath on page 4. And she can reason through the thirst. And she can get close to Fred, which no one else can do. I thought the whole point of newborns was that they couldn’t do these things. Bella was supposed to be extremely special and one-of-a-kind. Now Bree makes them two of a kind.

The Edward as a red head was just wrong. Sheesh – Stephanie did actually watch the completed Twilight movie with Rob, right? I had no idea who she was talking about.

IMO, this book was written after the script to justify all the crap that is going to show up in the movie. What do you bet we see that scene throwing cars around? And sinking the boat? Most of the positive comments about New Moon related to how closely it followed the book. My guess is that the script writers didn’t follow Eclipse as closely, so instead a book was created so that all the book junkies can’t say that they just invented half the movie.

    Completely unimpressed.

    • Studio Elle

      *spoilers* A lurker comes out…

I don’t believe Bree had any special powers, and she still struggled to reason with the thirst. It was easier when she was chock full of blood to think through it. And the reason she could get near Fred is because he let her. He gradually lets her get closer and closer since she was hiding behind him the whole time. Her leaving him books and other small things seem to lead him to “let her in” and be friends, or the closest thing to a friend he has. He wasn’t trying to repel her, therefore she did not feel the effects any more.

    • kitkat

written to “justify all the crap that is going to show up in the movie.”
Sounds like an excellent theory! I was imagining the scene from the trailer where all the vamps walk out of the water. I bet you’re right.

  • Candy

Bought it. Loved it. But it really made me suspicious . . . if SM is being honest (I’m sure she is) how many other little stories, or character exercises, (or whatever she calls them) does she have laying around? It was definitely a relief to read something new, but I still want more!

  • sjaantje

    Again you nailed it!
I was all “la la la” until about page 140 when they start heading to the fight and I knew we would be seeing the Cullens. I had that goofy smile on my face too! (And a 3 year old asking if I was finished my book yet!) I also did the “WHA?!” when she called Edward the red head. (Robward doesn’t have red hair!) I had to shake my head to get the image out.
Even though at this point I knew I only had a few pages left and knew how it was going to end, I didn’t want it to. I was right back to a time where I stayed up all night reading a book. Trust me, before reading Twilight that never happened before.
So I have a question for you to ask Stephenie when you do your interview next week. Please ask her if she is willing to take 1st borns in exchange for the finished “Midnight Sun”. She has given us another taste of that world and again has left us wanting more.

  • Tigerkitten36

I bought the book and its on the night stand. I may crack it open over the weekend once RL calms a teeny bit down.

I have been lurking a bit lately, and my day just doesnt start off right if I dont see LTT/LTR before seizing the day.

I like the new set up for both pages and the Press page is all kinds of funny. Go read it if you havent. LOLz

  • JodieO

Red head, huh? I’ve always wondered exactly what bronze hair looked like. Now I know.

    • Vi

      Knowledge is dangerous.

    • Midnight_Cyn

JODIEO….HEY!!! I CAN’T READ YOUR COMMENT BUT I JUST WANTED TO SAY HI!! :) MISS YOU!!

    • blvr

A lot of FF writers say he has red hair and I always cringed a bit, but now I guess we’ll have to accept it. She did say dark red hair in the description so I can at least avoid calling him a “ginger.”

  • Vi

Oh my, Edward is a Ranga :D
It just clicked that a whole generation of ladies has been (unknowingly) lusting over a ginger – SHAMEFUL. I cant stop grinning. Imagine if Rob’s hair was dyed proper red back in twilight. ahhhhh :D haha

    • TeamJacobEdward

If that would’ve happened (Rob’s hair dyed red, red) you would have found me crawling into a little, dark corner sobbing hysterically. I would have closed my eyes and not opened them again until all photographic evidence was eliminated… Which probably wouldn’t have been long given I think the movie would have flopped and they would have stopped after Twilight.

Just the thought makes me cringe…

  • shleeeigh

I haven’t read it yet – I’m gonna wait for a few months when it becomes about £1.50 and then get it, however, my eagerness to read has been exponentially increased by knowing the Cullen’s are in it!

    • Sj

You know if you really want to save I don’t think it will be too long before it hits the shelves of the second-hand shops, I spotted New Moon on the w’end in St Vinnies, $2.00.

    • TeamJacobEdward

Or just go to Stephenie’s site and read it. She is supposed to have it on her website for awhile!

      :)

  • kandnandb

I wasn’t that excited to read it (Hellllll-o, Steph-if your publishing comp wants you to do something new, how about this-FINISH MIDNIGHT SUN! THAT would be new!) but I have myself convinced that the working title was “The Secret Dirty Thoughts of Bree Tanner” and she lusts over Edward in great, dirty detail (details Prudella won’t share). So I may check it out just for that.

  • Stacey

So I was going to buy it yesterday. I really was. I honestly had it my hands at Target, but I had to make a decision. The book or the Eclipse soundtrack. I chose the soundtrack and the Glee vol 3 soundtrack too. It was all about the music yesterday, ladies!

I will read it though. Either online and just donate to the Red Cross or go back to Target. Who am I kidding… I live at Target. I’m always there.

I do have an issue with Edward as a redhead. My husband is a redhead. I just prefer picturing Rob over my husband. My husband is cute, but no Rob.

  • Bea

    1) Fred is definately a redhead. If only because the name makes me think Weasley. And I like him. Can he come back in that book that she’ll write someday about Leah or Renesmee? Leah could imprint on him and they could have kids nobody would ever want to have anything to do with! (Love Leah, but sometimes…)
    2) It would definately have been more fun if you didn’t know she was going to die… and then if she hadn’t died. She would have made a good Cullen. Especially if she’d brought Fred.
    3) It was fun to get an outside perspective on the Cullens. Jasper was terribly fun, Carlisle and Esme were sweet and I loved that she was immediately terrified of Emmett. I guess that’s why calling Edward “the redhead” didn’t bother me– if you are used to seeing gorgeous vampires and have already done your vampires-mate-for-life thing and you don’t talk with him, I guess that’s what he’d be. Rob aside.
    4) I found myself frusterated trying to work the timeline of Victoria creating the newborns into Dark Side of the Moon. Darn fanfic!
    5) The book finally gave me a non-Midnight Sun question for Stephenie! In Breaking Dawn, Bella doesn’t seem to know the details of the Volturi’s involvement in Eclipse that Bree shares with Edward. I’m assuming he’s doing his standard ‘don’t tell her stuff that will needlessly scare her’ thing, like when he takes her to Jacksonville in Eclipse… or is it the old ‘I don’t like to tell other people’s stories becuase I hear more than they indend for me to’? Does he tell the whole story to anybody, though? It seems like it would be important for him to tell Carlisle, maybe Jasper… which adds a little more angst to Breaking Dawn. What other little details is Edward sparing Bella, though? He doesn’t seem to ever tell her he can’t fully hear Charlie’s thoughts… what else are we missing only hearing Bella’s perspective? Which brings us back to what we all really want to ask Stephenie and know we shouldn’t: when are you ever going to finish Midnight Sun?!?

    • blvr

Regarding your #5, I totally agree! We miss a TON of good shiz because Bella doesn’t know anything about anything and Edward doesn’t tell her squat. This little book about Bree showed me that at least Stephanie can write a little outside the rainbows and sunshine world she created in Twilight. Dude, Bree was ready to sleep with Riley for a cheeseburger!

Plus, Diego did use a lot of more modern slang, as most of us have noted. My fave…”Trust, Bree.” LTT right there!

  • http://www.twitter.com/KatieShh Katie S

I planned on borrowing it from a friend (who is obviously a better fangirl than me), but my Mom surprised me with it. I started it, but Emancipation Proclamation has my full attention at the moment. Bree will have to wait for Mafiaward.

Anyone else NEED to know if Steph reads naughty fanfic? Normal?

  • TeamJacobEdward

I didn’t go out and buy it the day it came out but found myself at Target on Sunday and swung by the book section while I was there.

I didn’t think was going to like Bree much less care about her. Okay so maybe it was that I didn’t think she was going to be likable because she wasn’t in Eclipse. In Eclipse she came off as half-crazed only wanting to just snack on Bella BAD, and I was determined to not care about her. But I did. I ended up caring a lot and wished she didn’t die. I wanted her to run.

I had to hand it to Stephenie, though I was determined not to, she made me care about Bree. And even though it wasn’t my preferred happy ending, I liked it any way… Probably because I knew the sad end was coming.

I too was all excited about my reunion with the Cullens. The closer Bree got to them I was split between wanting her to run and wishing she would hurry the hell up and get to the Cullens already because I missed them. And despite knowing it was the beginning of the end for Bree, I would get some Edward time.

    • Sonata

Wow, that hit the nail on the head! That’s exactly how I felt reading Bree. I really ended up caring about her. However, I was willing to sacrifice her for a glimpse of Edward. :-/

Also, I kept having to remind myself that I was not reading fanfic, that this is what ‘really’ happened, not just what ‘might’ve’ happened. sigh.

Oh, here’s my V-card for whoever wants it. I posted a long time ago, but it’s been so long I’ve earned a new v-card. I totally read everyday, but am just too lazy to comment. :-(

      • http://letterstotwilight.com unintendedchoice

        yeah- your vcard grows back

        HELLO!

      • TeamJacobEdward

“Also, I kept having to remind myself that I was not reading fanfic that this is what ‘really’ happened, not just what ‘might’ve happened. sigh”

Hahaha! Sooo true! I did have to remind myself a few times that Stephenie was writing and that any interaction with another vamp wouldn’t be R-rated. (I’d say more but don’t want to give spoilers for those who haven’t read it.)

You’re funny, you should comment more often. :)

    • lindsaylee

      thought the same damn thing

  • Becca

CAN”T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU THINK OF THE REST OF THE SAGA.

      • Midnight_Cyn

  • http://www.twitter.com/antisocialangel fangbanger

I’m too sleepy to read the other comments. The font is tiny.

I liked the Bree book. Not the greatest thing ever, not what I expected, but it was entertaining. You should probably read it before watching Eclipse.

My favorite part was THE CHEESEBURGER OF PAIN. Am I the only one who focused on this? I read that, then reread it, and then I reread it again. It took me FOREVER to understand what the hell was going on there. In fact, I was so inspired that I wrote a teeny tiny little crackfic about it. I’m easily amused, obviously.

Also, Edward is not a redhead. This makes him… not as pretty. I have nothing against redheads. Ron Weasley is my favorite book character in the entire universe, BUT this redheaded Edward is not who I signed up for.

    • http://www.blogger.com/profile/17005652040143206647 Luxie

Doooood! Bahahaha WFT WAS with ‘the cheesburger of pain?’ I read ‘that Bree book’ late last night. And so b/w the whole cheesburger bit and then the orgasm .. um.. er I mean organism description, I was well um very confused but WAY more interested…. yes, I believe I may need to stop reading so such smutty fanfic…. heh yeah okay.

      p.s.
      Anyone:
Hey how do I put a lil’ pic in my profile/name?! ..God I’m slow.

      • http://www.twitter.com/antisocialangel fangbanger

http://en.gravatar.com/ is where you get avatars. Unless it’s different on this new site. Idk. I’m not web savvy.

The cheeseburger kills me. I’m going to annoy everyone I know with this for a long time. :)

    • Sj

      ‘CHEESEBURGER OF PAIN’ ?!?!

Can people please stop giving me reasons to want to go and buy this book.

      • http://www.twitter.com/antisocialangel fangbanger

        No, go read it!

Then come visit me on twitter. I miss you. :)

  • Sj

So apparently I’m going to be spending my lunch break lurking around the YA section in Borders getting the lowdown on this guy Fred. And with all this talk of red heads all I can picture is Fred Weasley coming across Robward on the ‘battlefield’ and yelling ‘DUDE! Where have you been?’

Must practise line about birthday shopping for niece. She’s turning three but hey, got to stock up on 1st edition classics don’tcha know.

    • http://www.twitter.com/_lindelle Lindelle

Fred Weasley would probably call a halt to the battle and challenge “pretty boy” Robward to some hardcore Quidditch.

  • MrsKowski

I love your review UC! I keep hearing everyone’s indifferent reviews of it and it has me putting it off. But you seem to have not loved it, but enjoyed it and that’s good for me!!

Just so ya know, I thought you were being totally serious about the bree quote at the end and I was all like “Seriously SM, you didn’t do that to us did you?! Biotch” …then I realized you were totally joking. #SlowMorning, forgive me.

  • GUnit

Ladies – when are you going to break down the new soundtrack! It’s awesome!

    • http://letterstotwilight.com unintendedchoice

we need to get Moon on that!

  • Lovintherain

I have to admit…the idea of reading more about Bree does not intrigue me. I am not dying to read the book. But, if I am being honest, I know I will because I can’t stand the thought of missing out on anything Twi related. And I will prob buy the book, just so my set is complete.

    • The Old One

And this is what the publishing company and Summit are counting on to bring in the $$. It kinda makes me want to Boycott the Bree.

      • persephone

        “Boycott the Bree…”
        hee hee hee

      • Lovintherain

I know you are right about that, which is one of the reasons I haven’t purchased the book yet. Oh the moral dilemmas we face.

  • http://www.blogger.com/profile/17005652040143206647 Luxie

UC, your ‘that Bree book’ and you rawk bb!

Yeh, I was def stupidly giddy when the Cullens appeared. It was like seeing old (phantom) sparkly friends again. And was fun actually guessing which Cullen Bree was talking about. And she did a good job describing everyone… EXCEPT the ‘redheaded mind reader.’

  • surfsister

i haven’t bought it or read it yet, but am more interested now that i’ve read the comments of those that have. and damn i miss me some cullens. as has been previously stated…if this was midnight sun, i would have pre-ordered it AND paid just about ANY price!!!

  • Bella_NaA

I’m currently reading it online (bit by bit, on my superslow internet connection at home) and I’m actually really injoying it. I have to say, I really like the writing in this book. Stephenie has evolved so much as a writer. (Like I now, because I’m such an expert *sarcasm*)
Either way, I say Twilight fans should read this one!

  • aleisha

I bought it, read it, and didn’t like it much except for the fact that I crave all things Twilight. It just didn’t do anything for me and I found the whole Diego relationship predictable SM. I mean, is that one of the perks of being a vamp — you are guaranteed to find a soul mate?

Bree Tanner is definitely not my brand of heroin.

  • lapushbaby

Wait, you have a ‘friend’ who is not a reader of your blog? But knows that you have a blog? What the heck?

Anyway, I will buy this book in a store, because somewhere in my twisted logic, I think that spending money on a Twilight off-shoot will encourage her to finish Midnight Sun, when she realizes the bucks she will make on it. Please feel free to try and pop my delusionish bubble, I’m not listening…

    lalalalallalaalallaallalalalalalalalal

    ;-)

    • http://letterstotwilight.com unintendedchoice

she’s actually a friend BECAUSE of the blog and I think she does occasionally read, I just think she feels herself above my PC-nature.

      HA

PC-nature? If I’m PC, I’m not sure anyone wants to see non-PC UC :)

      • lapushbaby

HA! Someday when the stars align, we will get drunk together and I will get to see non-PC UC….I can’t wait!!

A friend because of the blog who is not a reader of the blog, oh I get it! I feel like that might be irony, but i always use that word wrong, which might also be ironic, but I’m never sure….

  • Kells

Everytime I realize you’re going to be meeting her, my irrational inner 15-year old takes over and screams, “Ask her why E/B is constantly screwed over in the movies and J/B is pumped up so much!” I really, really shouldn’t care. But this is all to say that I really can’t wait to get your report when you meet her.

As for the Bree book, I’m glad you wrote this. I was planning on reading it but wasn’t mustering up much enthusiasm. I’ll give it a shot tonight.

  • mariemarie

First of all, why would people buy this book when you can read it online? (Except I get what UC said about it looking neat next to her other books, that’s pretty much the only reason I can fathom).

And second of all, NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, cares AS MUCH as Kristen.

  • Midnight_Cyn

SINCE I DON’T KNOW WHO THIS BREE IS…I AM UNABLE TO REALLY COMMENT ON HER…EXCEPT HER GORGEOUS HAIR..(YEAH I AM STILL DEPRESSED OVER THE LOSS OF 9″ OF MY OWN LOCKS…:( CAN YOU TELL? ) I FIGURED I MIGHT AS WELL JUST POST SOME OF MY RAMBLING THOUGHTS WHICH BY THE WAY ARE THE ONLY KIND I HAVE :

I HATE THAT ABC IS DOING WHAT LOOKS LIKE AN AWEFUL SHOW CALLED “THE GATES”..JUST TO TRY TO HOP ON THE TWILIGHT MONEY TRAIN…. I AIN’T BUYING…I FORGIVE “VAMPIRE DIARIES” CAUSE I LOVE DAMON…AS A MATTER OF FACT I HAVE COME TO RESENT ANYTHING THAT TRYS TO TIE INTO THE “TWILIGHT FACTOR” AS I HAVE COME TO CALL IT…LIKE OUR LOCAL RELAY FOR LIFE..IT IS NOW CALLED THE TWILIGHT RELAY FOR LIFE (NO EXPLANTION WHY)! THE COMMERCIALS THAT SEEM TO POP EITHER THE WORD TWILIGHT OR SOME TWILIGHT REFERENCE INTO THEIR ADS..AND JUST YESTERDAY DURING MY TV FALIURE MY CHANNEL WAS STUCK ON ABC AND SOME SOAP OPERA WAS ON, THERE WAS A “BUSINESS” NAMED FUSION AND ON THE POSTER WAS..YOU GUESSED IT…TWILIGHT..AGAIN WHY?? MOVING ON:

UC/MOON: THANKS FOR ALL YOUR AWESOMENESS AND GOOD LUCK WHEN YOU MEET MS. MEYER..I WOULD ASK YOU TO GIVE HER A SMOOCH FROM ME BUT THAT MIGHT BE KINDA AWKWARD ;) AND NOT REALLY A GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION..BUT MAYBE MY LOVE & APPRECIATION? KEEP ON, KEEPING ON DOING WHAT YOU DO THE BEST! XOXO

TODAY IS MY LAST DAY HERE FOR AWHILE… :( TOMORROW IS MY SURGERY AND I WILL MISS YOU ALL TERRIBLY, BUT YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT. I WILL BE THINKING OF YOU, WISHING YOU WELL AND COUNTING ON YOU TO KEEP UP THE STANDARDS HERE AT LTT.. :) I DON’T KNOW HOW I WILL BE ABLE TO STAND NOT BEING HERE EVERYDAY!

LASTLY, THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU FOR BEING HERE FOR ME ALWAYS, NO MATTER WHAT A PEST I HAVE BEEN, HOW MANY TIMES I ASK THE SAME QUESTION AND FOR EXCEPTING ME THE WAY I AM NOW….FOR THAT…THERE ARE NO WORDS…I LOVE YOU ALL..XOXOX

    • http://www.twitter.com/antisocialangel fangbanger

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SURGERY, CYN!

I’LL BE PRAYING AND THINKING OF YOU. CAN’T WAIT TILL YOU GET BACK AND I PROMISE THAT YOU ARE NEVER, EVER A PEST. :)

    • TeamJacobEdward

      GOOD LUCK!!!!

      (((Hugs)))

  • nb620

I read it online, because when else are you going to get a built in three days of time-killing at work? And I’m reading along, and all of a sudden, a mere 56 pages in, Bree and this Diego KISS?! Wait, wait. There are supposed to be hundreds of pages, fifty two meaningful looks, some cheek and arm caresses and at least a hair sniff before this happens. What kind of Lady of the Night is this Bree, anyway!?

    • Robjunkie

LMAO! Can’t even think of a witty rejoinder, you nailed it. Well played.

  • ambushed by twilight

i read some of the comments, but not all, so i hope that my comment hasn’t already been covered:
regarding UC’s questioning Bree’s perception of ” dark red hair”, well we just have to remember that our concept of E.C.’s hair is from Bella’s POV & Rob’s hair, but “vampire’s” see color w/ a heightened ability (remember Bella’s comment about another color in the rainbow that she didn’t have a name for?) so it’s easy to understand why Bree called it red.

‘kay? alrighty… y’all hafa lovely day!

    • Kadie

If that is true, I wonder if Bella, with the new vampire eyes, looked at Edward and thought WHAT?!

  • eloise

I have not bought the book, but after reading the comments I think I am going to pick it up. If I do, I think I am going to have to pick up a new copy of twilight. I loaned it out 13 months ago and I think that I need to give up hope of ever getting it back.

    • eloise

And I just have to get this out there… Ashley’s dress at the top of the page totally reminds me of a maternity dress.

      • Luludee

Is it just me, or is it all covered in sequins? If so, it reminds me of a Golden Girls glam outfit for a hot date or something. (this is not a compliment, although I love the GG’s)

  • Priscila

    OK,
so I’m officially the worst twifan ever!
I had no idea that bree book was available this week
and all the time i thought it was someone who
    showed up until BD,
i guess i should be more like the stew and CARE a little bit more :)

  • SparkleCakes

I don’t think I’ll be partaking in the world if Bree and her thoughts on Edward “Ginger” Cullen. I’m currently trying to shake my Twi withdrawal symptoms and this would only feed my habit. Besides, if I want a 15 yr. old’s take on Eclipse, I’ll sit in between the mass of them that will surely be at the midnight showing.

  • http://www.lulaville.com Lula

The reason I love UC is ’cause she’s always taking one for the team.

  • Luludee

I haven’t read it yet either, but that’s mostly because I forgot about it. As soon as I finished this post, I started mentally planning when and where I can squeeze this in between some other books I need to finish and return to the library.
“To buy, or to read online; that is the question.”

Either way, I’m now really excited about reading it!

  • Deb

    Dear LLT:

I have read all the Twilight Saga books numerous times, & I was pretty excited to read the Bree Novella. I bought it the first day it was available, thinking it would be a great supplement to Eclipse. I read it in a few hours, & I must say I was a bit dissappointed. It was okay, a little slow getting started, kind of redundant regarding facts of a Newborn’s life, that we already knew from Eclipse, & I really couldn’t wait ’till I got to the part about the Cullens. I totally agree with your statement about the “Red Head”, I was also confused by this, & I thought it was a strange visual depiction of Edward. As for your statement, “So… do I buy the whole ‘I’ve been thinking about Bree’s story ever since I wrote Eclipse & wanted to share it with all my devoted fans” story?’ ” – I was thinking exactly the same thing while reading it. This Novella reminded me more of a half-assed character development rant – with an already published ending added on. I didn’t feel it reflected Stephenie’s normal calibre of writing.

Love your LLT Website! Deb from Nova Scotia, Canada

  • OCDmom32

So I suck and haven’t read it yet, but I can’t wait to find time! I love the Twilight series and anything Twilight (especially LTT and LTR!) so that in itself, makes it top my list of must reads!
