Ashley meets David Slade and he gives us something to smile about!

(Because “The Man” won’t just let me be great and blog for a living I was off working when my good pal Ashley (and our friends Allison and Kim from Twifans) got to meet David Slade at a special signing in Burbank last Saturday. Ashley tells the tale and has a special greeting for you all from David!)

WTF's a leghitch?!

Dear LTT/LTR readers and 2010 #Leghitchers,

This has been a VERY exciting week in the Twilight world, hasn’t it? It seems as though the excitement and LUCK keeps escalating as we get closer to the release of Eclipse. Last week Moonie and I saw Rob on Leno and then had the pleasure of meeting his lovely parents, Dick and Clare, after wards. And just 6 days ago, Moon and UC were getting the lowdown and discussing Twi-secrets with the Goddess herself Stephenie Meyer over some hand-dipped “Team Edward” and “Team Jacob” chocolate strawberries for 4 HOURS. Very dream-like indeed.

And on Sunday, I had the pleasure of meeting my FAVORITE director of the series yet, David Slade.
He did a signing in Burbank, CA at a small store “Dark Delicacies”.  I arrived and to my relief did NOT see 200 people waiting and standing in line. I ran into the lovely ladies over at http://www.TWIFANS.com and about 30 other people. He was signing Eclipse posters for everyone!

As I approached the signing table, I introduced myself and said that I’m associated with “Letters to Twilight”.com and shook his hand. (He was just as nice and lovely as I had expected him to be.) I told him how grateful the fans were that he kept in contact with us VIA Twitter during the whole movie-making process.
Some questions I had answered:

Ash: “What was one of your favorite moments during filming?”
David: “The garage scene between Jacob and Bella. I just really liked it.
Ash: “What’s one cinematographic thing we can watch for in the movie? Was there something visually striking that you were really happy with that we should look for?”
David: “I’m going to leave that up to you guys to figure out.

Our friends at Twifans took a video of David talking and answering more questions.
WARNING. There are SOME Eclipse spoilers:

(editor note: I LOVE these girls!!)

Also somewhere in the conversation I told him how grateful we were for the “Leg hitch” scene and that we have a block of 30 seats reserved at the Arclight for the midnight showing–and that our Twitter group is the 2010 #Leghitchers. He was VERY impressed at that number of fans we have flying in and thought it was a very clever idea for Twitter to have a group like that. He also said that the Arclight has the BEST quality movie reel possible. So, of course, ladies, David Slade sends his love to the #Leghitchers:

Are you prepared for the movie release? I’ve got my jorts packed!

Love and Leghitches,
Ashley aka @paleochicksdigs

LOVE IT!!! David’s debonair meets cheeky expression and the fact that our official LTT screening of Eclipse will feature the BEST print of the movie out there according to David Slade! So much win, Ashley thank you for reporting live from the scene of Dark Delicacies, which sounds like a weird Occultist shop meets grocery store. Please tell me they had Team David chocolate covered strawberries for all the guests that day! What are you most excited to see in Eclipse? What about David Slade makes you excited or scared for Eclipse??

Our internet game is ridiculous: LTR, The Forum, Twitter, The Store

What a good sport to take that pic with you :)
Have fun, Leghitchers! Sooooo wish I could be there! Take lotsa pics, be safe and have a sh*tload of fun!!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/JessicaLBarrett Jess

That’s very cool, Ashley! I love his expression in the pic. It seems so… him.

Good luck to all the Leghitchers! Safe flights, and lots of fun <3

  • SarahG

How awesome!!! I’m so jealous that the westcoasters get to have all the twi-fun!!!! Someone needs to show the south some love! I’m glad the Slademiester thinks the Leghitch-shippers are cool. I’m still managing my expectations, but that leghitch better be a damn good one!!!

    • O.M.E.

Sarah, I too am jealous. I want to relocate to LA until the last post-party for Breaking Dawn, the second one, is over. I feel like I miss all the fun, but am glad to live it through you everyone else! Great reporting. David is going to BRING IT! Leghitch 2010!

  • chochang

was this meeting really at “Dark Delicacies” or at White Yorkie’s home? judging from the abundance of action figures at the back, i believe the latter..

p.s. i’m trying really hard not to watch the vid. don’t want any spoilers!

  • Stacey

What great questions Ashley! I am so glad Slade is nice. Maybe he just seems gruff. Like a gruff teddy bear! I hope you guys have a great time at the midnight showing. I am so jeal…happy, yeah happy for all of you. Darn east coast.

    • xylem44

Ooooh! he would love you for that analogy… he seems to be into teddy bears.

Yay! Another director who is Team Jacob. NIiice!

  • http://cantgoogleeverything.blogspot.com Rachel B

This is so awesome! I love the pic at the bottom with your sign! lol :-)

  • TheColdWoman

Although I previously professed my undying love for the DILF, I am most looking forward to D.Slade’s Eclipse. I’m just looking forward to it being a darker movie in general and I’m really excited for the fight and chase scenes I’ve seen in the trailers. Wish I could be at the Arclight but I’ll be representing at my little theater in West Mich!

    • Michelle

      Michiganders holla!!!!

I’ll be at my lil’ theater in ghetto Flint-town. Muhahahaha! ;)

    • operarose

Yay West Mich! (West MI native here.)

Despite the ghetto theaters I actually wish I was in W MI for the opening date so I could see Eclipse with my mom.

      • misty

        Hollar @MichGirlzzzz!!!

Troy/Rocherster girl here!!! This IS Epic! OMG we should all get together one day and have a LTR?LTT reunion…what do ya say??

        • Michelle

@Misty – WHAT THE HECK!?! You live an hour from me?!?!? Dude…LTT/LTR party coming soon!! :) :) :)

        • claire’s mommy

WestMich gals represent! I’m in Ludington, and all for a LTT reunion! We should all meet up in GR or somewhere to see Leghitch 2010!

          • misty

I got my premier ticket already for the 29th so lets exchange emails and/or FB and remember this for BD#1

I noticed that the first picture’s file name is “painfulunicorn”! Sounds like a yoga pose I never want to do.

Have fun #Leghitch2010′ers and keep the Twitter updates flowing!

    • TeamSeth

Aw, is it? That reminds me of when I first researched DSlade. Nostalgia! And now I’m seriously getting excited for Eclipse. Yay!

  • Michelle

I watched the video…got the spoilers (yet they made me happy…) and felt sorry for the lil’ man. He looked honestly quite bored. Maybe he wanted to browse the action figures behind him and was annoyed he had to talk about Eclipse?

    CAN.NOT.WAIT!! :)

    Leg hitch baby YEAAHHHH!

  • http://www.twitter.com/KatieShh Katie S

    Squeeeeee!!!

    Dear Ashley,

I’ve already harassed you via Twitter by expressing my extreme jealousy at your meeting MY favorite director of the series and now THIS! You had a CONVERSATION with the man! And an adorably squeezable photo??? You killed me. I am green. At least… green is good.

    Love,
    me

p.s. – I never would have picked DS to direct a Twilight film, but I’m so thrilled to see what he will bring to it. I really do hope and pray there’s an unrated director’s cut…

    p.p.s. – Got my Leghitch 2010 t-shirt for the premiere!!! #superLTTnerd!!!

  • http://isuckatbloggingbuticanbite.blogspot.com/ Janetrigs

Love you Ash, mean it. Will show you on Monday or Tuesday….whenever I get to see your smiling face.

  • http://www.twitter.com/ScienceGeek91 Rob’s slow mo’ strut

Aw, David actually seems like a sweetheart. From what I had heard of the goriness of his movies, I really believed that he’d be a really cold person. I don’t know him personally to make that judgement but after reading this interview I’m convinced that he’s a pretty warm guy.

What I am most looking forward in Eclipse (apart from Rob’s f*ckhawtness and the leghitch of course) is the cinematography. I used to follow him on twitter and have seen all the amazing twitpics he used to tweet. He really is a great photographer and it gave me hope that Eclipse will be a great cinematic experience for me. At least, I can hope that from what I’ve seen in the trailers. Forks (or Vancouver really) never looked that visually stunning and eye-catching before. Sure, I loved Javier’s cinematography in New Moon as well, but the icy blue tint of Eclipse kinda gives it the so-called ‘gothic’ look. And the blue tint isn’t annoying like it was in Twilight.

    • Stacey

Slade’s movie are very good! Hard Candy was terrific and creepy. 30 Days of Night was gory, but wimpy me did like it. I’ve liked him, since he directed the Stone Temple Pilots video with Sarah Michelle Gellar in it. Which, since it had demonic Telly Tubbies in it, was the scariest of all.

    • http://www.twitter.com/ScienceGeek91 Rob’s slow mo’ strut

“Thank you for the no wind chimes with the sparkles.”
      Haha spot on!

  • Sue G.

I can’t wait for the leghitch and the tent scene.

Great convo with David. He has a very dry humor to him.

    6 days to go!

  • TeamJacobEdward

Slade seemed uncomfortable being gushed about in want form or fashion. It was probably good that there weren’t 200 people there, I think he would have crawled into a hole, cowered and hid. .. But at the same time gracious too.

You know, I think it should be our mission to get audio/video of as many people to say “leg hitch” and/or “jorts” as possible; David, Rob, Stephenie, WY, The Font, Mr UC, PFach, Billy Burk, Kristin… The list is endless.

  • misty

mmmmk I can’t wait:: Leghitch on the BIG screen with a giant Rob…oh yeah this is LTT not LTR…my bad.

  • gizmo

I don’t get jealous of people meeting twi-people very often, but I am SOOOOO jealous right now. I hate you Ashley.
I want to meet Dave so bad… and have him sign my Dark & Scary Libras Forever t-shirt. He doesn’t get enough love and that makes me very sad.

    • TeamJacobEdward

Yes, us libras are the quintessential of dark and scary.

      ;)

Great, now I want that t-shirt! I’m so jealous.

  • Stacey

I love hearing about all these groups of people getting together for Eclipse. On the East and West Coast. All I have in CT right now to go with me is two borderline Twimoms who don’t like me making fun of anything like jorts, a librarian watching for homework, and 3 others who are humoring me. It’s gonna be a fun night.

Times like these make me want to be back in Pennsylvania. I would totally be harassing UC into watching it with me.

By the way Ashley, I love your hair!

    • snowwhitedrifted

      Hey Stacey,
We always wanted to see CT in the fall. Maybe I can coordinate a trip around Breaking Dawn release time and we could go together?

and of course we’ll have to wear matching shirts since we’re cosmic twins.

      • Stacey

That sounds perfect! I heard there’s a movie theater near Madison that has a bar. Can you imagine Breaking Dawn and martinis? That would be fantastic!

        • snowwhitedrifted

          STFU!!!!!!!!! Martinis and movies?!
          Let’s DO This!
          :)

          • Stacey

Unless the friend who told me about this is wrong, I have a feeling this is the best movie theater EVER! If she is wrong, then we will have to bring flasks in our purses. (Just like in college)

Honestly, I am about to open up one of those myself. It would be a goldmine!

  • Just me

Yay for taking the picture with the Sladester.

Anyone in MA or NH want to form a little off-shoot of the official #Leghitchers? Or are you going to force me to pull a sickie next week and sit in the movie theater alone?

    • alisheeba

Yay! Someone from Ma! I’ll be watching it in a little tiny theatre known as Gardner Cinemas in Gardner, Ma LOL!

  • Pingback: Tweets that mention Ashley meets David Slade and he gives us something to smile about! | Letters to Twilight -- Topsy.com

  • Twipam

Yay!!! the day is almost here, 6 days and counting…

Ashley I am so jelouse you go to meet DS, awesome questions. As I am having a hard time managing expectations his secrecy MADE IT WORSE!! LOL

Obviously can’t wait for the Leghitch but the tent scene is one of the many scenes that I am more anxious about; hoping that they were able to capture that intimacy between Edward and Jacob when scavenging thru their minds..*sigh*

And totally agree, the East Coast gets all the goodies :( here in the WC (Boston, MA ANYONE??) NEED some twifun and events…

    Thanks so much again Ashley

  • StotheP

Texas roll call, anyone? *raises hand* *boasts*

Thanks, Ashley – what a great post! I do love an artistic mumbling man with an accent. Not that you could tell by his level of enthusiasm, but I’m sure it was gratifying for him to hear such a positive response from such a critical fandom.

Right, then. Looking forward to pics from #Leghitch 2010. I’ll be here in NE Texas, also watching Ecllipse on the best quality movie reel in town. Also know as the ONLY movie reel in town.

    • http://gravatar.com/kadmbarbie VoteMeIn

      Yea TX!

In DFW area and lucky enough to be going with a group of 12 awesome girlies, 3 of which will proudly sport our LTT/LTR merch!

Love this video and glad he’s tolerating the fangirl out there. I would just hate to hate him, bless his heart.

      • StotheP

Yay for the Lone Star! I’m a transplant, but I love it. Except for when it doesn’t rain, like now. Or when I’m daydreaming about Canada. Which is almost always.

    • Owning It

If we can ever sell our house here in Pennsylvania, I will eventually be living in Houston — is that anywhere close to you?

      • StotheP

Nope, I’m much farther north. Good luck with the house sale, though! Nice avi!

        • Owning It

Thanks- and too bad you’re so far north :( I definitely need to acquire some real TwiFriends. As it is, I’m dragging my husband to see Eclipse, 2 days after it opens.

  • Twi-Mom (not like on “O”)

I am very excited to see the movie, although I will be waiting for it to come out on DVD. FAN FAIL!!! I just don’t think I have the patience to sit with all the kiddos, I am getting too old for that. Besides I am too much of a talker and need to beable to pause and discuss things. My sisters and I wait till I get the DVD’s and then have a watch party so that we can make fun of things.

Side note has everyone seen the BK comercial with Team E and J? My hubby and I were watching something on Spike the other night and I saw it. I was so 2nd hand embarrassed. I was hiding my face and he was just laughing his a$$ off at me. One would think that by watching Spike (guys channel) I would be spared these commercials but I guess not.

    • purplescool

YES – I saw that awful BK commercial too – and I too, was 2nd hand embarrassed by that – ugh.

  • http://www.twifans.com/ kimc333

Great blog Ashley! Your questions for David were awesome. It was terrific we could be there together! This whole time in LA has been amazing!

  • babiesbrown

Hmm. I thought he looked kinda bored in the video, too. He looked like I think my dh might if forced to listen to talk about the kissing and meadow scenes in any Twilight flick.
I’m still excited to see it, bc it was the darkest book, so a grumpy director would probably fit.
Does anyone besides me wonder if he had a step stool on set for when he had to give Peter and Rob direction? That’s mean, but man, he’s tiny.
Oh, btw, ladies, I started a blog. It’s not anything like as good as this, but it reflects my snarky self. Come visit if you have time! Today’s topic is Michael Knight and the Jonas Brothers.

  • operarose

Eclipse is sneaking up so fast. Am I the only one who doesn’t feel “ready”?

I’m generally excited about a new director and seeing what he brings to the Twilight saga. We know that Eclipse will be different from Twilight and New Moon because it has a new director. So it’s going to be fun to see what it’s like.

I hope that he really brought out the best in Rob, Taylor and our friend Kristen’s acting.

To be negative for a second, here’s what I’m hoping NOT to see:
    - Awkward pauses
    - Stuttering and stammering
    - Random Spanish phrases
    - really unnatural explanations for what’s going on i.e. “Don’t stare at her face” or “hold on while I Google ‘vampires’”
    - more vegetarian dishes consumed by Bella. we get it.

And to be positive, here’s what I’m hoping to see:
    - More weird faces from Mike Newton
    - Jessica’s boobs (this isn’t for me, it’s just to keep my fiance interested so he’ll continue to watch the movies with me)
    - slow-mo leghitch
    - lengthy tent scene that takes a few creative liberties (I don’t mind giving up some of the action scenes for this)
    - at some point I hope Bobbygee runs through the background of one of the scenes kicking a soccer ball. owait have I started to blur the lines between reality/fantasy/LTT/Twilight? oops. too much coffee this morning.

    • TeamSeth

Bobbygee running through the background screaming “GOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” would be beyond epic. I think I would cry with happiness.

    • Owning It

I’m feeling optimistic about the stuttering/ stammering etc. Did you happen to see Josh Hartnett in ’30 Days of Night’?? I actually started to take his acting a bit more serious after that.

must manage expectation, must manage expectations…

  • snowwhitedrifted

Yay, now Ashley has a Christmas Card photo with a Twi-God, like Moon & Dick and HBIC’s with Steph!

“Dark Delicacies, which sounds like a weird Occultist shop meets grocery store.”

-I smell a Twilight themed Whole Foods in the works.

    • Stacey

Twiligt themed Whole Foods? hee hee. I bet they have a great vegetarian vampire section.

      • Twi-Mom (not like on “O”)

I have not read any FF, I am full of FAN FAIL’s today, but this just seems like the perfect setting/title for one.

  • Luludee

Ashley, are you the same Ashley who met Charlie Bewley and had a run-in with Kristen and Joan Jett, that we have yet to hear about? If so, I want to hear about it! ;)

    Also, your hair is beautiful!

I’ve only seen one of D-Slade’s movies, which I liked, so I’m hoping that Eclipse turns out nicely. I’m looking forward to the action scenes because of Slade’s talents, but I’m managing my expectations there, based on the trailer.
Apart from the #Leghitch2010, I think I’m mostly looking forward to the backstories for Jasper (and Rosalie too). I haven’t really had time to get hyped up about it just yet, but I am looking forward to it.

  • kitkat

    Off-topic:
You know you blur the lines between reality and LTT (as operarose said above) when…

Last night during Jimmy Kimmel’s Eclipse special I said *out loud* “Where’s the jorts pack…. ummm. Wolf pack?!”

    • Stacey

I felt sad for them! They paraded them in at the end and made them stand in the back like they were naughty. Not nice, Jimmy Kimmel, not nice!

    • snowwhitedrifted

…and speaking of Kimmel, anyone notice that the guy who asked a question was wearing a brown t-shirt with what looked like a UNICORN!!!!!!!

      • Stacey

The message below is for you! My computer is acting up again.

  • Stacey

Oh I did! I was actually going to send you a message about it, but my husband was watching it with me. He was already appalled by the whole thing, so I didn’t want to make him crankier by saying I was having a twitter discussion about it.

I think he’s thinking about having me put away. He muttered something about “the funny farm”. Or maybe he meant Snooki, I’m not sure.

    • snowwhitedrifted

Ohhh, hubs sooooooo kill the mood of any twi moments!!!!

I lucked out, mine was at the Angels game. I got to watch Kimmel all alone, in bed … just like nature intended.

  • TeamSeth

I’m so jealous! How exciting for you guys, and to see the best reel! Yay! Go Leghitchers!

  • MichaelSheenisaDILF

I feel like I’m cheating on the DILF. Maybe we can send David Slade some mustard colored pants and I can pretend to still be loyal…

Excited for the ab porn, I mean ROMANCE.

  • Stacey

It was uncomfortable to say the least. I was hoping he would fall asleep on the couch.

I bet he wished he was a baseball game like your husband! But Yankees, cause he’s the east coast version.

    • Stacey

This message is for Snowwhitedrifted, but the silly computer did another weird thing. First thing for new house…new computer!

    • snowwhitedrifted

Ha ha of COURSE he’s a Yankees fan, and a Celtics fan.

      *our husbands can never meet.

      • Stacey

Well I’ve seen the mister with Red Sock fans. I mean it can’t be worse than with them. Didn’t Torre and Matsui go to LA? Honestly, I have no idea what I am talking about. Give me a discussion about Edward vs. Jacob in bed and I get it. But baseball, I have NO clue!

        • snowwhitedrifted

Yes, Mr.Snow also hates the Red Sox.
          and you know players… #YouKnowWayMoreBBALLThanIdo
I zone out or wonder why some of them still wear gold chains and copstaches after 1986.

          • Stacey

Then maybe they can bond over their hatred of all things Red Sox. I have no clue how my husband made it out alive being a Yanks fan and going to college in Boston.

I have no choice, but know the players names. He honestly quizzes me. He might be trying to make me certifiably insane.

DSlade looks so effin bored talking about Eclipse. Makes me miss the DILF and his mustard pants terribly.

Everyone keeps saying this one is the best of the three….I certainly hope so. Must manage expectations.

Let’s hope the movie contains more excitement than David Slade.

Anyone notice he never takes a normal picture? He always turns his head, does a weird chin thing, looks to the sky or gives a rude gesture?

  • Owning It

I am looking forward to seeing David Slade’s vision for ‘Eclipse’. I really enjoyed ’30 Days’ and ‘Hard Candy’- they were both ‘visually dynamic’ and I thought that he seemed to bring out the best in his actors as well (I, for one, will never be able to look at Ellen Page again without feeling just a wee bit frightened). I loved CDubs and all, but New Moon draaa- ggg-eee-ddd on. And that was my favorite book of the series, so I was really feeling the movie love.

They’ve had the wacky director, then the nice director… I’m ready to watch the ‘director-who-takes-no-shit’, soon to be followed up by a ‘director-who-knows-his-shit’.

    • Stacey

I really liked Ellen Page in Hard Candy!
