Twilosophy: Special Twilight dates – Should we care?

(Sit back and throw on your tweed and serious glasses as I try to be non-controversial and talk some Twilosophy)

Dear LTT-ers,

Did you know a week ago Monday was Bella’s birthday? And did you have Edward and Bella’s Anniversary marked down on your calendar for August 13th??? And what about the Newton’s Anniversary? And maybe even the day Jacob phased for the first time? Did you celebrate those days or do you even know them? Nope. I sure don’t. So does this make me a “bad” fangirl?

Can't believe this exists. Click to enlarge for maximum speechlessness

I mean sure, we love Edward and Bella. Obviously, we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. We cheered for them when they finally got up the nerve to “be friends.” We gasped and felt 2nd hand butterflies for them when they finally got together. We felt those first love jitters right along with the blessed couple. We even cried when they broke up (be honest!) and we cheered when they got back together (FINALLY 379 pages later!). We jumped up and down when Bella finally gave in and accepted Edward’s proposal. We maybe misted a little when they got married in the Cullen backyard and we definitely sighed a lot during the Isle Esme honeymoon. And who doesn’t remember Bella’s issues with turning 18? Yea, psychotic, I know.

But is it necessary as fans of the books to celebrate their anniversary/birthday/whatever every year? I was just cruising around the interwebs trying to catch up on what’s been happening in the Twidom and I found out that we missed both Bella’s birthday AND Edward and Bella’s Anniversary (GASP! The HORROR!) which is according to come elephant-brained readers made August 13th 2006 their 4 year anniversary. Which means they got married the same year as my brother and sister-in-law and now I will never forget the year and now I can never forgive myself for knowing such trivia. Twilight Bar Trivia Night here I come!

You get this because the Bella/Edward anniversary pics from google are TOO embarassing

So if people post stuff about character birthdays and wedding anniversaries, who are we to judge but what do you get the couple who has everything? 4th year gift is something like paper… and that’s a lame gift.

Do you think Stephenie Meyer herself even remembers the date she gave Bella for her birthday or the date Edward and Bella got married? Maybe… but I bet she remembers the exact date she had “THE DREAM” cause I’m sure it’s like UC and I remembering the day we started these blogs. I’ll always think about LTT and LTR on December 8th every year probably for the rest of my life especially when I tell my grandchildren about that thing called a “blog” I used to write, cause “I’m down with the kids.” DUH! So I guess that’s what it is. It’s about remembering what’s important and special to you. Regardless of how inconsequential it may seem. Remember those special days in your life and pay homage to them because they matter. I guess I should do a little research and see when Buttcrack Santa died so we can host an official memorial every year plus a moment of silence to honor him. RIP. See what I did right there? A good ol BCS reference, haven’t seen one of those in a while, have ya?

March 15th, 1986 (the day Mike Newton was conceived. Duh)
Themoonisdown

PS See, I can be non-controversial when I want to be! Someone give me a Twilight Conversation Heart, forget the cookie.

What days are special to you? Any have a Twilight reference. Also, come clean do you know any of the Twilight special dates like Bella’s birthday? BE HONEST!

Our internet game is ridiculous: LTR, The Forum, Twitter, The Store

Sometimes I remember strange dates, so if you just happen to remember because it stuck in your head, I think that approaches normal. But if you do anything to celebrate… I think you’re straying away from normal territory.

Incidentally, August 13 is International Left-Hander’s Day. I’m not sure I ever knew it was Bella and Edward’s anniversary. When you’re immortal do these dates even matter?

  • http://www.twitter.com/lissashoff robsten4life

Slightly off topic but I’m planning a wedding and my colors are dark red/gold and when you google image search that it kinda makes me sick how many Twilight weddings come up, especially Twilight wedding cakes.

  • Sue G.

I know the date I first read Twilight….October 31, 2008, while passing out Halloween candy to the kiddies! Took about 4 hours to read! My oldest daughter was devouring these books and I wanted to see what this book was that she just couldn’t put down. Well almost 2 years later….now I’m a LTT/LTR fanatic……that’s NORMAL, right?

    • yertlesmom

I think it is totally normal that you know when you read Twilight! I wish I knew when I had first read it–I might mark the date :)

  • superhumanmoron

I celebrate Cougar Renee and Phil’s anniversary.

  • http://www.twitter.com/ScienceGeek91 Rob’s slow mo’ strut

Embarrassingly, I remembered Edward’s birthday, June 20th. But half of that blame goes to twitter and all the twi-fans sites I follow.

As for Bella’s birthday, I remembered that as well because my BFF’s cousin who also happens to be as much of a Twilight fan as I am has her birthday on Sept 13th.

Oh and MTV’s hollywood crush celebrated Nessie’s birthday on 9/11.

However, this should be mentioned I have a sharp memory when it comes to remembering bdays. I think I still remember the bdays of the friends I had in 6th grade. So it’s acceptable to remember your favourite fictional characters’ bdays, right? (Harry Potter AND J.K Rowling on July 31st!)

No, this doesn’t mean Bella’s one of my favourite characters.

    • Bea

Throwing Harry Potter a birthday party would be fun!

    • an’yergroundedfertherestofyerlife

Glad you mentioned Renessie’s birthday because I was sitting here wondering if Bella was forever 18 or forever 19. I never remembered that from the books. Time lines always seem a little wonky in Twi world. I guess Eclipse happens just a week after NM ends. And there definitely seemed to be some time compression in Twilight.

  • http://twitter.com/kandnandb kandnandb

I remembered when reading the books that Bella shares a birthday with my sister in law but since I don’t like either of them, I promptly forgot that fact.

Fourth anniversaries are (I looked it up b/c I’m procrastinating getting my fat ass to the gym!):
    modern-appliances
    traditional-fruit/flowers

(Is a Sparkle peen vibrator an appliance?)

    • http://www.twitter.com/ScienceGeek91 Rob’s slow mo’ strut

      YES! Sparklepeen vibrator FTW!
Edward would appreciate it on the days when Bella goes hunting without him.
Speaking of Edward’s sex life, has any of seen this?

      • MidnightCougar

        LMFAO! That was hilarious!

      • theseviolentdelights

“Let’s not go all the way tonight
No sex yet, just love” lmao

    • MidnightCougar
      • ChillinWithCullens

“Toss it in the fridge for that authentic experience”

        ew ew EWW!!!

  • http://www.twitter.com/ScienceGeek91 Rob’s slow mo’ strut

OMG I just clicked on those wedding cards.

    “Ceremony begins at twilight.”
    Barf.

    • ChillinWithCullens

For real, soooo 2nd hand embarrassed for whomever had the time on their hands to make those….yikes

      • http://breakindownltt.blogspot.com PrettySparklies

        AND the GUESTS!

        haha!

        PS :D

    • http://heatherensley.wordpress.com hezaire

i tried clicking on the invites, but it was too small. even with zoom! sad day. what do they say?

  • Bea

I’ll cop to knowing the anniversary… but only because the date is mentioned repeatedly in the books and my brain retains trivia it doesn’t intend to. And the reasoning for the date is that it’s a month before her birthday, so I guess I know that date too. And if I sit here and think about it I can figure out Rename-me’s birthday from there because Bella wakes up from her transformation on her birthday and you count back three days… But when I hear the words “August 13″ do I think “Oh, Edward and Bella’s birthday! What shall we do to celebrate?” Nope. I’m more likely to think it’s less than two weeks ’til my birthday, two months to my daughter’s, 4 months past my anniversary or even that my brother-in-law’s birthday’s that week and I forgot to send a card.
Trivia knowledge: normal. Buying a cake and hanging streamers: probably not. Though it might be fun once.
Which brings me to a new question: What other fictional characters would be fun to throw a real life birthday party for? Or authors? A Mark Twain party would be fun. Or Edgar Allen Poe. Who else?

    • Bea

Anniversary. Not birthday. You knew what I meant.

    • http://mainericefamily.blogspot.com no cool name

I’d celebrate Charlotte Bronte’s birthday. That chick knew what was up and she created the original Edward, in my mind. Go read Jane Eyre!

      • frightenedflips

I second that – brilliant book!!!!!!!

      • Em of M

Jane Eyre! That’s by far my favorite book! I’d thumbs up you but I’m on my phone and I can’t :( So I’ll settle for giving you a :)

  • http://adriennetrafford.blogspot.com adrienne

my husband had to remind me this morning that OUR anniversary is tomorrow…so…

  • allryans

The only thing I remember is that Edward was born in 1901 and that’s only because someone referenced it when talking about the Phoenix song – which now reminds me of Renee and Phil (DAMMIT) – and so now I can only think about Edward when I hear it.

  • TeamJacobEdward

Edward’s middle name is Anthony?!? What? Since when?

    • P.S.

      Since 1901 :)

      • Obava

LMFAO- you must have had your coffee this morning, PS- you’re ON IT :D

      • TeamJacobEdward

        LMAO

        Smart ass ;)

        Touche my dear, touche. :D

  • operarose

I’m a bit confused (perhaps resulting from the fact it’s still morning) but are we supposed to remember these dates or actually celebrate them? I need to get my “How to be a Twilight fan” manual out.

I did not remember Bella’s birthday (other than I may vaguely know that it’s in September, like mine) and the Cullen’s anniversary never crossed my mind until I was watching Eclipse in June and they said “August 13th” at the end of the movie, and I laughed because when choosing a wedding date last fall August 13th was one of my options. Thankfully, I did not end up marrying on Bella and Edward’s anniversary. Because that would have been 2nd hand embarrassing to myself.

The only way I could picture myself celebrating either one of these dates was if we all somehow lived in the same town and could have regular LTT parties. We’d host the party in one of our basements, which we’d kicked our husbands out of and plastered with pictures of Edward and Jacob, walk a “red carpet,” have blood-red Cosmos, and … wait a second. Um, no. I think I’d suggest a pub crawl in honor of Bella’s birthday. So we could all tip a few too many back together…and forget that we’re supposed to be celebrating Bella’s birthday ;)

  • http://breakindownltt.blogspot.com PrettySparklies

I can’t remember any specific dates, but generally bad with dates anyway. I did have another weird Twilight conversation experience again this weekend. I was at a baby shower and one of the mom’s said that she wished that her baby could stay a baby forever and someone said how awesome it would be. Sadly, there were no Twilight references and all I wanted to do was bring up the immortal babies. It was KILLING me! We were in the mom-to-be’s parents’ house (her dad is a minister) so I figured it would be a bad idea. *sigh*

My sister has had my books and movies since the beginning of August. I’m going through major withdrawal. gah!

We’ve posted a Breakdown of last week’s Kellan LTT post. We hope you’ll check it out and enjoy it. Please subscribe and/or follow us! http://breakindownltt.blogspot.com

We love LTT/LTR and their followers!

Well this is one post I can safely say that I “normal”…I don’t remember my birthday, anniversary, what I had for breakfast or if I even had breakfast…so I don’t think I will be celebrating B/E anniversary, birthday etc.,
Happy Monday Everyone..5 days (I think) until the BIG day..hopefully I will remember to show up!
“) <3 — (thats supposed to me blowing you kisses!

    • http://breakindownltt.blogspot.com PrettySparklies

Ditto! My hubs does all the date remembering for me. He even scarily remembers things I’ve worn out on dates 12 years ago and what day they happened on. haha!

Congrats! Have any plans before hand? A day off for pre-wedding pampering?

      *hugs*
      PS <3

    • operarose

5 days! Good luck to you and your son and enjoy this week!

    • MidnightCougar

@Midnight_Cyn! I hope things have calmed down from last week, & that your son’s Wedding will be a wonderful Anniversary for him & all your family to remember for many years to come! Best Wishes & God Bless!

    • http://mainericefamily.blogspot.com no cool name

Thinking of you…and I’ll be thinking of you/praying for you on Saturday. I know it’ll be a challenge but we’re behind you, Cyn!

      • Midnight_Cyn

This is for all rhe above well wishes: THANK YOU and I HEART U ALL FOR ALL THE SUPPORT!! Things have calmed down as far as drama, but the push is on to meet the deadlines AND unfortunately I have come down with the flu :(…..

        • The Old One

Please rest up, cuddle with Blanket Edward, and get well soon. Let your family members stress about the wedding details, and just concentrate on getting better! Hugs! XO

        • Stacey

I am so sorry you aren’t feeling well! I know it will be hard, but try to get some rest. That way you’ll be ready for Saturday! I hope you have a wonderful time!

        • eatmyjorts

Get well soon Cyn! Will pray. XXX

        • MidnightCougar

Ahh Cyn, I wish I could bring you some soup & my Edward pillow to snuggle! Take good care!

  • ThePlaneFriend

I do remember their anniversary…it would be bad if I didn’t, b/c mine is the same day. However, I got married 3 years before BD came out, so it was a strange coincidence, nothing more.

    • P.S.

Our anniversary is Aug. 12th…..phew, that was close. My son shares a birthday with Bella, Sept 13th. And Stephanie’s maiden name is Morgan, mine too. Wierd.

      • MidnightCougar

My daughter’s birthday is Aug.12th! & believe me, I’ll NEVER forget that day! I’m sure all the Mom’s out there can relate!

  • http://mainericefamily.blogspot.com no cool name

I have one husband, four kids, eight siblings, two parents, two parents-in-law, seventeen nieces and nephews – there is NO WAY I have any brain cells to spare to remember fictional characters’ birthdays and anniversaries. Bella’s gonna have to get her own birthday card.

  • lindsaylee

i did not remember any of the dates, i knew the whereabouts… september-ish. Do i remember the dates that each of the movies premiered? Hell yes

  • Twi Mom(not like on O)

I only knew the Twi dates because I saw them mentiond in various spots on the internet.

There are some strange things I can remember like our 1st date, not the actual date but that it was the Friday before Martin Luther King Day. I know this because I was teaching at the time and it happen to be a 4 day weekend for us and he kept giving me crap about never working. Other than that I could not even remember that Mr Twi Mom had inventory at his work last Friday he had to remind me Thursday that he would not be home till late Fri. Oh well.

Recognizing the date is one thing. But actually celebrating them is NOT NORMAL!!! Although it does make me feel like less of a dork that some people actually go to those lenghts.

    • lindsaylee

      love your name!

  • an’yergroundedfertherestofyerlife

I was surprised there was no meal choice on the RSVP card:

    ___ Salmon

    ___ Chicken

    ___ Townsfolk

    • fangbanger

      BWHAHAHAHHAHA!

  • Stacey

My little sister’s birthday is on September 13th. I almost left her message saying, “Happy Birthday, Bella!” Them my sister would promptly drive five hours from Maryland to Connecticut to hurt me.

Well maybe, she’d just tell me to cut it out, but she would probably be tempted. I should have sent her a tee shirt with Bella’s face on it, cause that would have been great!

    • Esteez

Or one that says ‘Bella and I share the same birthday’

      • Stacey

That’s a good one. I would have been one dead girl if I sent her that! Note to self for next September 13th.

        • MyNieceIsAFanRIGHT

Totally off topic . . . not sure where you are in CT, but just went last night to Edmond Town Hall in Newtown, CT. Eclipse $2.00 showing till Thursday (9/23) I think. (I was going to say if you are a distance “Do I smell ROADTRIP” but know there is this Twilight Mono going around and I have a touch. Not as Twilight motivated as I use to be . . . sad but true. Reason I can totally relate to UC and Moon cutting back on the posts).

I know My sister in law and I were cracking up . . . can totally tell what team we each are on from when we take potty breaks.

We almost saw it when out for Bella’s b-day (back on topic) but knew it was eventually coming to our “discount theater” and didn’t have to wait as long as we thought.

  • Luludee

I’m actually more second-hand embarrassed about how much money obviously went in to make those quite lovely invitations, than that they were made at all.
Construction paper+glitter pens= sort of normal. Shelling out big bucks for legit invites=Not Normal.

I barely celebrate my own birthday, so there’s no way in Hale that I would do anything to celebrate a fictional character’s B-day, let alone remember when it is.

  • Janetrigs

THUMBS DOWN. I need your contoversey, even if I can’t spell it.

  • natashadushi

I am a bad fan! I don’t know any Twilighted related days.
BTW I went googeling “belal edward anniversary” and saw this http://static.newmoonmovie.org/bdm/images/2010/06/vcfx-300×199.jpg
WTH people? Nothing else to do???? Pffff going back to my secret Twilight fanfiction library (organizing ff by alphabet……..)

    • ChillinWithCullens

      AGGHH!! disturbing and creepy!!

  • tankergirl

Celebrating fictional birthday’s & anniversaries from the Twilight books?! HA! How totally lame-o-zoid! That’s WAY more pathetic than my pocket Edward companion, daily checking of “several” fan blogs, massive lick & click hoarding of Rob Porn, all-day ticking away on Twitter for #britpackroadtrip or new fan encounters and my endless YouTube Rob interview marathons, right? …Right? …em, Guys?
    Nevermind.

    • http://letterstotwilight.com unintendedchoice

      That’s Normal.
      I like you

    • robsfuturemate

tankergirl- come join us on LTR, we have a lot of those goodies for you! (maybe you are there and I’ve never seen you. But comment and say hi!)

  • frightenedflips

Anyone else itching for a competition with fake prizes?

    • operarose

Speaking of which, what happened to last week’s competition for the real prizes of SMeyer crap?

I was really hoping I might win the SMeyer lip gloss. I would have even offered to have paid shipping. *hinthintjustincase*

  • kitkat

Isn’t SMeyer’s bday September 13 also? Someone above mentioned that J.K. Rowling has HP’s bday (which, totes normal, I knew his bday is July 31 but not hers). Is that a common trend, do you think?

  • eatmyjorts

I am fail central on all this stuff. I only know what day of the week it is, let alone what date because I’m at work, & at some point during the day this has to register, preferably before I’ve driven somewhere….

    Does anyone know Jacob’s birthday? I might remember that…maybe I’ll google it…rushes off, lamely…

    • eatmyjorts

Jorts-a-Lordy! That turns out to be a pre-existing google search, with discussion, & confirmation from the pen of SM & everything…*coughApril14th1990cough*

  • kristen’s bestie

We get bagels in my office for birthdays. A girl last week asked me if I was bringing bagels the next day for Bella’s birthday. I said “Bella who?”
Now, if it was May 12th and she said Rob… Then, I would have known who she was talking about.

  • JustGoWithIt

I might do this if I had an even more interested friend that initiated such things, because why not. The Oprah mom’s twilight nights kind of looked fun. As things stand, I think I am at my limit with re-reading at two and a half (gotta count random scene re-reading), and I am recording Twilight again on PVR, but I am not sure if I’ll even watch it (okay I will). I lent out my New Moon DVD, but I’m not going to bug the person to give it back (okay I will). I don’t have any interest in fan fic anymore. I miss my fixation. I don’t know if I can successfully re-hash it. Maybe when Breaking Dawn is somewhat close.

  • yertlesmom

Okay, I have to admit that I did celebrate Robert Pattinson’s birthday this past year with my Twifriends from work. I made chocolate cupcakes with red icing, put plastic fangs on them with a black birthday candle in the middle. Of course, we had New Moon paper plates and napkins. It seemed normal at the time–at least it was fun! What isn’t fun about cupcakes (and Rob)?

    • robsfuturemate

      Mmmm, Rob and cupcakes!!!

  • theseviolentdelights

    I remembered Bella’s birthday.
I celebrated it by looking at my poster , saying “Happy birthday, you lucky bitch.”, giving the evil eye, and walking away. Then I ate a cookie. ;)

    • ChillinWithCullens

      “Happy Birthday, you lucky bitch”

BAHAHAHAHA! funniest thing I’ve read all day!!!

      • theseviolentdelights

Well then, I’m glad my uncontained jealously entertains you. :D

  • MichaelSheenisaDILF

    August 13th = Fidel Castro’s birthday. COINCIDENCE?

    • cledbo

Ah yes, now all those red motifs on the book covers make sense – they’re all COMMIES.

Alice wasn’t just making a bad fashion statement with those skin light red leather pants at the graduation party, she was making a Political Statement.

Viva la revolution! Blood for oil animal blood? hmm…

  • cledbo

All the people who forget their own wedding anniversaries (let alone spouses/children’s/mother’s birthdays…) I found the solution!

Actually, it’s only a solution for me, and only because my own mother is way smarter than I am. We’re having our ‘commitment party’ (yeah, puke, I know, but you think of a better name for a “We’re never getting married so just leave us alone already” party) on 10/10/10 – so Mr Cledbo will never have an excuse to forget it!

Now if only I could remember where I left my car keys as easily…

    • Luludee

Cledbo, all this time I have been wondering who that was in your Avatar. Only just now did I actually think to lean forward toward my screen and actually examine it.
      David Tennant, yes?
      Very Nice ;)

  • http://notanaddikt.blogspot.com Bella_NaA

I don’t have to remember any twibirthdays because the friendly people over on eclipsemovie.org remember them for me. Which is just as well since I have a ginormous family and have enough trouble remember all their birthdays already.

  • C4EverDazzled

this has nothing to do with dates but I just had to share… Last night I was playing scrabble with my mom and I almost put down the word “jorts” then reality dawned on me right before I put it down. LOL that would have been embaressing :P

    • Luludee

Haha, that would have been awesome! You could have just told her they are jean shorts. No need to expound on Twilight and LTT, etc. Unless of course she would have wanted to whip out the dictionary.

Hmm, this has me thinking: someone should make an entry for jorts in the Urban Dictionary. And since it’s a dictionary, it should totes count for games such as Scrabble, or my personal fave, Bananagrams.

      • Luludee

        Haha, it is there already!
So you can use it next time without shame!

        • eatmyjorts

Apparently a garment for ‘the fashion illiterate’…absolutely bloody hilarious. Go wolfpack, go.

  • http://sweetinator88.wordpress.com sweetinator88

i know Bella’s birthday only because everyone makes a big deal out of it
and because it’s the day after my sisters, and i remember thinking that when i read the books lol

  • Apple

    I cannot miss Bella´s birthday because it´s my mother´s, too. ;)
