Do we miss Cathy the Cougar?

I even chose to post this gorg picture of you. Dang, what is wrong with me!?

Dear Cathy the Cougar,

I have something to confess. I said something nice about you. I don’t know what came over me, but…. I stuck up for you. Moon likes to play devil’s advocate most of the time, but I don’t even think she was doing that when we chatted. I think her anger/bitterness/hate was real. And I normally agree, but… but…..I didn’t this time. You should do something to get on Moon’s good side- maybe send Ned Bellamy (aka Buttcrack Santa) her way with a basket of different Margarita mixes for the holidays.

Here’s how it went down: Yesterday in the comments, LTT reader Ish had a random thought:

I was thinking about how poor Cathy the cougemaster gets a rough deal from us and I suddenly realized – She actually cracked it the most. I mean, the undercurrent of sexuality (puts on tweed petticoat) but seriously, yes, NM and Eclipse were better in most things but didn’t have me getting all hot and bothered and having to sort myself afterwards. Bring back Cath! (actually not really but maybe they could ask her advice on a few things…)

and an email conversation ensued…. then I figured out how to make iTunes work again on my work computer & it happened- you know- it’s happened to all Twilight fans: We’re just minding our own business- projecting our budgets for First Quarter 2011, and we hear it- and visions of Edward Cullen come dancing in our heads:

UC: Ohhhhhhh- The Black Ghosts song from Twilight just came on my iTunes! GOSH. WHY does this movie bring up different emotions in me than the others? like.. I just got gooey in my belly
Moon: Seriously. when I watched Twilight on Thanksgiving I was like REALLY HAPPY

I barely even miss these two

UC: Moon, is it possible that we want Cathy the cougar back? Did the guys (the DILF & the short one) who did the next two movies not capture the same emotion? Like.. I want to watch Twilight again. Right now. At 3 pm in the afternoon on my work computer- think if I close my door I can download a bootleg & get away with it? I don’t feel the same way about the other movies. I don’t want to watch New Moon- I’m not even excited to watch Eclipse this weekend.. WHY!? Twilight is the WORST made- the worst acted, it had the worst wigs, but yet…. I love it more. Do I actually have to thank Cathy!?
Moon: NO. God no!! Never say that!!! And I’m actually kinda excited to finally see Eclipse again
UC: but WHYYYYY Moon? Why do we feel that way about Twilight!? And not the other movies? Wait- you’re excited to see Eclipse? I’m not. Why aren’t we exactly the same? We can’t be different. We’re UC & Moon. That’s like Bert & Ernie, Simon & Garfunkel, Lennon & McCartney or Bella & Edward……
Moon: I just am excited! I seriously can’t remember most of it. Does Chris Hansen have a cameo?
UC: I mean….maybe I’m excited.. let me see…. (thinking)…. No. Nope…I’m not….. but dang.. I’m in a Twi-gushy mood listening to this song…..
Moon: It’ll be like seeing Eclipse again for the first time
UC: Like you’re an Eclipse-virgin- A Born again virgin!!!!
Moon: I am!
UC: Ish just wrote this in an email:

“Twilight was so sensual without anything happening except for a few chaste kisses, and I bet many ladies went home from the cinema and had the need to ravish someone, even if it was the taxI driver on their way home! I didn’t get that feeling with NM or Eclipse. “

UC: I think that’s SO interesting and true- like THAT KISS!!!!! on the bed… SIGH…I think that’s why I was a little disappointed with leg hitch- even though technically it was all one could dream of in a leg hitch scene- I mean the leg was CLEARLY hitched…What else could you want? It’s exactly what we asked for….
Moon: Right.. it was hot…
UC: but… it was just…. a lot…. and sometimes.. too much- or even “just enough” is not as hot as holding back- or sexual tension. It’s expected- it’s so much hotter when it’s unexpected- or unfulfilled.
Moon: I really think it all goes back to the newness of Twilight. It wasn’t a big deal to anyone but its fans. No one knew what Rob and Kristen were like as Edward and Bella. We didn’t know how it would all look (Blue!)

I could be your new mommy, UC!

UC: Awwww- I even miss the blue!
Moon: and the fandom wasn’t full on coocoo bananas like they are now
UC: Totally true. So does Cathy the Cougar get ANY of the credit?
Moon: Sure, she gets some, I mean, she made the movie. Like she (with the help of a lot of people) got it ON the screen
UC: Why do I sound like I have some sort of sympathy for her? I need to look at some pictures- remember that she reminds me of my dad’s ex fiancee
Moon: yea you need to watch ONE interview with her and get the hate back

But I didn’t. In fact, I did the opposite. Well, if you consider the opposite to be: leaving work, going home, going to yoga class & thinking about YOUR original Twilight anytime the instruction said “say your mantra to get through the pain.” So it’s not a video montage featuring your epic hairstyles. It’s not a proclamation to the Twilight world that YOU are the originator of Robsten, but it’s a close second. I thought of you during the downward dog. And if that’s not a 180 from my usual dreams of secretly videotaping getting you drunk on watermelon margs while getting you to spill about Nikki Reed/Mike Arangano/K Stew gossip, then I don’t know what is!

Love,
UnintendedChoice

So what do you think? Do you feel a different connection to Twilight than you do the other movies? Do you think it’s Cathy the Cougar’s craziness? Do you wish you could knock one or 12 back with her at a neighborhood Applebees? How much does “Little Red Riding Hood” look exactly like Twilight? Did I get off topic?

Ps: We know change is hard, but we changed our comments. Ohh I also miss that special Twilight feel! I watched Eclipse online this weekend and lost interest after half an hour or so. Reading this I think imma buy a big bag of sensations Mexican pepper and cream chips and watch Twilight tonight :).

  • Midnight Cougar (MC)

I do feel a different connection to “Twilight” b/c it’s my favorite book (well actually “Midnight Sun” is, but since it’s not complete, I digress to “Twilight”). I have watched the movie countless times on DVD, having never seen it in the Theatre; wasn’t a fan then. Now, I’m not a fan of Cathy, by any means – don’t get me started on all the shit she should have included in Twilight & didn’t- BUT, she did give us the perfect Robward & she definitely brought to life, the original sexual tension & chemistry b/w B & E, that we all felt when we read the book. So, yeah Cathy probably could give Condon some decent advice for BD, but I’m afraid she’d need to do a little touchy-feely with Rob again to “bring back that lovin’ feeling’.” Yuck, eww….. oh my, lmao!

    • LatersBaby

I liked the film Twilight even more after reading Midnight Sun. I think Cathy–and others–captured the sexiness from MS. It also helped me understand Rob’s performance a lot more.

      • Midnight Cougar (MC)

I really enjoyed reading “Twilight” again after reading “Midnight Sun”. I read it as one chapter of “Twilight”, then the same chapter of “Midnight Sun”, & so on ’till I ran out of MS chapters, of course. It was such a fantastic read that way! The storyline is much more complex with relation to both POV. I hope SM never finishes that piece of shit! ;)

      • Anonymous

You know, it always made me wonder if Rob was the one that had the copy of Midnight Sun that got leaked. Either him or Cathy. It was announced that it got leaked in August before Twi came out. SM said something about the initial distribution of the draft being given from her to someone. I’m thinking that she allowed them to read the draft of MS to help Rob get into Edward’s head. I’m thinking it was Rob. I mean, you saw the Bree chick’s pic with the bucket of ashes that was the Bree Tanner book draft.

        Just a theory.

(Steph? Is it true? Am I right? Say nothing if I am. Yep. I thought so.)

        • Anonymous

I remember seeing some interview with both Rob and Stephenie where he denies being the “leak”.

          • Anonymous

I didn’t mean intentionally. Like maybe someone he knew got a hold of his copy or something since Steph said something about no ill will intended wtith the initial distribution.

But you make a good point. Like usual.

            Alright, never mind. :)

          • Anonymous

I know what you mean, TJE, I read the descriptions of his hotel rooms, the piles of clothes and old Hot Pocket wrappers, and thought he could have easily misplaced his copy in there and someone snagged it!

        • TwilightCat

There was a Rob/Kristen/Stephenie interview about Twilight on Moviefone Unscripted where Rob asked Stephenie whether his copy of MS was the one that got leaked (accidentally), and Stephenie told him that it wasn’t his copy. She told him, “No, I mean, you wouldn’t be alive right now, Rob.”

          • Anonymous

Wait, does that imply that whoever leaked it is no longer alive?

          • TwilightCat

Good question! Maybe she was only extending the privilege to Rob. ;)

          • Cullenesque

I’m thinking it was Rachel LeFevre who leaked her copy of the MS. It makes sense: she was given a copy to study her scenes in Midnight Sun, she leaked it online, then the studios waited until later to fire her butt so that readers wouldn’t connect her firing to the MS leak. Brilliant!

    • Team Seth

but I’m afraid she’d need to do a little touchy-feely with Rob again to “bring back that lovin’ feeling’

I don’t know… maybe we NEED that to be brought back. I like Twilight Edward, but not NM or Eclipse Edward. (there’s like 3 scenes I like of Edward in those films). If the touchy-feely works, then wear it! wait, glove fits… Condon: If the glove fits!

  • http://twitter.com/lissashoff Melissa Palashoff

I get so giddy every time I see that Twilight is on Showtime and I turn it on EVERY SINGLE TIME and never get sick of it. I honestly don’t think I’ll say that when New Moon comes to Showtime. I will say that I’m looking forward to Eclipse but it’s still not the same as the love I have for Twi.

There is just something about the first one, Edward and Bella getting to know one another is just magical… when she sees him for the first time, the first time they touch, when she says it “out loud”. Every horribly acted moment is priceless.

Makes me all nostalgic… I think I’ll go watch Twilight now, even though it’s 8am and I’m at work LOL I think all the parts are up on youtube

  • SueG.

I agree. That first kiss in Twilight still gets to me after 2 years. The buildup….the excitement…..the tension.

Let’s hope BD has that same stuff leading up to the feathers!

  • GeminiGypsy

I liked Twilight a lot, but I think the movies gradually got better and better as the series went on. I’m really excited for the Eclipse DVD to come out! I know I have finals coming up at school, but I’m definitely going to fit in some time to watch it again while studying! :D

  • Libby

She gave us Rob. For that Ill be forever thankful.

  • Stacey

I would have never known about the books, Letters To Twilight or all of you if wasn’t for Cathy and her large scale version of the little home movie she made. So for that I am thankful.

Also, just think about it…it had a woman’s touch. That sweet DILF and that little hobbit are men, they just didn’t get it.The kisses were just hotter and so did that version of Edward. Don’t get me wrong he was handsome in all the movies, but Twilight Edward was just well…yum.

Come to think about it, the closest to that original Twilight Edward is the pictures I saw from the Breaking Dawn set, when he and Bella were making out at the street festival. I have seen Chicago and Dream Girls which are both great, so maybe Condon is in touch with his feminine side. Except for the 9 year old playing a baby, this could be really good.

    • Team Seth

I’m excited! Pop, six, squish, uh uh, cicero, lipshitz!

  • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

Hey guys…do any of you know how I can get my avi back?

    • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

Nevermind! I figured it out! :0)

      • The Old One

Tell me how you did it?

        • Anonymous

          Ignore this.

  • JellyBeanRainbow

I was just thinking about Cathy today while reading the short one’s interview somewhere: he didn’t get to know Rob or Kristen, bc they were shooting or rehearsing or sleeping. Cathy on the other side took time to obsess about the cast almost as much as we do. Kind of like her for that.

  • JellyBeanRainbow

Wait….. No thumbs down? Where’s the fun in that and what will Janetrigs do?

    • kandnandb

No thumbs down? What will the haters do?

      • Team Seth

        THUMBS DOWN! (no? yeah. no)

    • The Old One

Really, UC and Moon, what can be done so Janetrigs and the haters can have their say?
Oh, but it’s nice that the reply box doesn’t jump around any more!

  • Mel720w

Oh crazy Cathy. She does take a lot of heat from us but you are so right…her vision of Edward as the bouffant styled, peacoat wearing vampire gets me going every single time. NM Eddie was too mumbly and morose in his tweed, Eclipse Eddie had mutton chop side burns.
I think the hotness of the kisses in Twilight was due to the fact that Rob and Kristen were not together so there was on screen and off screen tension. I think Rob had the hots for her all along. By the time NM came around they were probably together and you can’t fake sexual tension. The leghitch for me was flat; when I want to get the butterflies in my tummy, I watch the two kisses in Twilight. Who knows what this means for the honeymoon scenes.

Funny note: buttcrack Santa’s cousin just walked into the dr office where I’m writing this right now. No lie!!!

    • http://www.talksupe.wordpress.com snowwhitedrifted

I thought the exact same thing. Once Rob and Kristen were hooking up, the tension was gone. Boo.

  • kandnandb

I think Twilight resonates more emotionally because in NM & Eclipse, they were already together (well, part of NM but we all knew, from reading the books, he’d come back)….Twilight was the build up, the anticipation of the relationship. By NM and Eclipse, they were like a boring old married couple w/ one random leg hitch that happened when your husband drank too much while watching football.

The first part of getting to know each other, the first kiss, the first time you get bitten by a vampire….*swoon* There’s nothing like first love.

    • Team Seth

Sigh. Does no one else get butterflies, Darcy walking out of the fog feelings when Bella says ‘yes’ to Edward in Eclipse and the Sia song crescendos as they do a spin hug?! That part gets me every time :’)

      • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

I do enjoy that part. It makes me swoon…also, now I want to watch Matthew McFayden as Darcy. Double swoon.

        • Team Seth

(shh, I watched it last night)

          • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

No fair…lucky! :0) But… I did watch MATTHEW Morrison on Glee last night. So at least I got to see one swoon worthy actor on my tv last night.

      • Anonymous

Love, love, loved that part!! It’s swoontastic.

And also, I finished P&P quite some time ago and love, love, loved it as well!!

      • twiprof

wow, are you a kindred spirit? I feel the exact same way…for both movies!

  • Anonymous

DOOD! I had this exact same convo a couple weeks ago with the hubs when Twilight was randomly on while we were staying at a hotel. I srsly watched it like I did the first time, and that kiss. Woo, that kiss. Even the hubs was like, damn, that is still the hottest kiss.

I think while the other guys did so many good things, there is one thing Cougar Cathy got they didn’t… what it’s like to be a teenager. And honestly, that is the feeling I got from the books so it makes me love Twilight for capturing it.

But I am excited about Eclipse since I can barely remember it. I only saw it 1 and a half times in the theatre. I count that first time as a half, cause, well you gals know why. I blame Jason Segal.

  • http://mainericefamily.blogspot.com no cool name

Agreed. I miss the “feel” of Twilight. Thanks, Cathy.

p.s. Not loving this new comments format. Just my two cents. Of course, I’ve been away for a while (laptop died a while back and the new one arrived yesterday – YAY!) so maybe I need time to get used to it. But really – no thumbs down?

    • Midnight Cougar (MC)

Oh nice, now that you have your new computer, you can give us Chapter 15 soon? :-) (can you tell I love your story?)

Well, I have been laid up with the Stomach Bug From Hell (which came complete with chills, bodyache, dizziness and violent, uh, “sickness”), so as soon as the computer screen stops spinning, I’m ON IT. I’m feeling good about writing tonight after the kids go to bed…cross your fingers.

        • Midnight Cougar (MC)

My fingers are crossed, but oh poor you, it’s tough when Mommy is sick. Hope you feel better soon. *hugs*

While watching P&P last night, I was actually imagining and pining for the next chapter of the Masen saga. AND, omg this is embarrassing, at the close of the movie and I imagined Darcy saying, “And how are you this evening Mrs. Cullen? Mrs. Cullen, Mrs. Cullen, Mrs. Cullen.” super swoon.

          • Midnight Cougar (MC)

Wow, you had a most excellent evening! What did you do after this wonderful fantasy?*ahem* go to bed?

RE: the movies: I’m a diehard Twihard, so they could have acted them all out in a garage for all I care and I still would have loved them. But yes there is something about Twilight, which I have watched over 50 times not including the random days that it pops up on Showtime, It’s kinda like your first born or your first love. I’m starting to wonder if it is because it was done by a woman? I can’t charge it all to that however, bc I also loved the “indie” feel… I know the story lines called for bigger budgets, but Twilight was more intimate. It was more natural…In NM and EC, some things felt forced.

So word on the street is that Condon is same sex oriented, so I’m thinking BD may recapture the “je ne sais quoi” of Twi. However, I will say that the way Weitz captured Bella’s heartbreak was phenomenal (Lykki Li) I’m Re-watching Eclipse the weekend and I’m sure I’ll love it again (except for Bella’s shades and wrinkled blue party shirt, Leah’s phasing and the fact that Rosalie’s whole back story looked a little Tarrentino-ish, not that I don’t love the Q I just like compartmentalization with my fangirlness.) .

“Could have acted them out in the garage for all I care and I still would have loved them” – hah!!

    Ohhh new comment area look…niiiiicccceeee…

I haven’t read the others so forgive me if I repeat.

This is my constant kunundrum. WHY does Twilight touch you DEEP inside (TWSS) ahem…like no other movie?

I guess for me it boils down to it’s the first. The first experience of Edward and Bella. The first look. The first kiss. The first longing/chemistry personified instead of read. It’s just special. Always gonna be…no matter how GREAT the effects are, how great the wigs are (AS IF)…because back then we didn’t know the drama. Didn’t see them dating (or whatever) etc…etc…etc.

    I miss it.

That being said…still UBER excited to get my Eclipse on this weekend. To watch, rewatch and watch again Edward proposing. FREAKING SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON. I love the pained/embarrassed look on his face. So freaking romantic.

    • Team Seth

YAY! You agree about the proposal swoonness! :D I was beginning to wonder if I was all alone! Can’t wait either…mine will be waiting at Best Buy all preordered. I think I’ll wear my Tweed serious shirt. LOUD AND PROUD!

      • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

Should I wait for Christmas? Can I even make it to Christmas? I can’t wait to see the movie again.

        • Team Seth

And be ‘the girl who waited’? No, just get it this saturday.

        • Anonymous

Are you crazy?!? No. Don’t wait. Or you could do what I’m thinking I might do. Buy it Saturday. Watch it, wrap it up and tell Santa to put it in my stocking.

    • Anonymous

I know. Proposing (saying courting) and the way he picks her up in a hug and swings her in happiness. It’s def an “awwww” moment. :)

    • Anonymous

“Freaking swoon” says it all! That was by far the best scene of any of the movies. Can.not.wait.

  • Nelle

I’m in the minority here but NM is still my favorite with Twilight coming in a very close. 2nd. Eclipse – eh. There were some individual scenes I know I’ll watch over and over but as a whole- I was disappointed. I just got back from a trip where I was able to watch it on the plane and ship, and am not thrilled about getting my DVD except for the Rob commentary and SM talking about LTT. Can’t wait for that!

    • Team Seth

A little dodo let slip that the commentary rocks!

And NM is my fave too! I’ve read it the most and seen it the most! :)

Twilight is special. Cathy did his job, but the book is better than NM and Eclipse, so the script is also better. Would Midnight Sun have something to do with it?

No matter how much money they spent to NM and Eclipse. Both directors didn´t get to recreate Edward, the main character of the whole story. Do not blame Rob for that. Script, direction and others’s poor performances were disappointing.

    • Ish

was the “cathy did his job” intentional? hillarious. she is a bit manly isn’t she.

“Edward rockin’ it next to the truck” he he! Yeah, he totally did. :-)

I watched Twilight last night twice actually and then New Moon, I don’t have Eclipse to go on but I personally owe CH a huge thanks…maybe time for another letter?..just kidding..but truly EVERYTHING about Twilight is what brought me back from the dark place I thought I would be in forever. Yes the book too, but I can’t hold onto those memories, I can watch the movie over and over and feel the way I do EVERYTIME. CH did that.
Maybe for me its a reminder that nothing is perfect, but can be unique and special in its inperfections? I don’t know, but CH brought to life the Edward/Bella we love, laugh at, talk about, adore. The corny lines, the blue haze (that I seriously thought was all in “my” head) everything that fueled the fire for the rest of the series. I really doubt that had it been done by anyone else, or any differently that we would all be here today. So thumbs up CH!! Hugs everyone! I’ve missed you!

    • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

We’ve missed you too! So happy you’re back! :0)

Like Moon said in the post, I think it has so much to do with the newness that was Twilight. While I loved Eclipse (esp seeing it with all of you) and am totally stoked to see it again this weekend. I don’t expect it to make me all hot & bothered the way Twilight did (does) and I believe that’s because when it was coming out we all barely knew what it was, who they were. We weren’t anticipating that first kiss on the big screen for months in advance the way we were with the Leghitch. We had already seen it in our minds A MILLION times before hand.

*fingers crossed* that this posts properly ….

WORD!!!!!!! I feel the same UC! And I am craving BAD for that first Twilight movie so I will def see Little red riding hood.

  • Team Seth

Maybe I’m crazy, I guess that’s okay, but when I hear that song I automatically imagine Arizona likin’ the rain and the cut to the Olympic mountains, which is quite possibly my favorite part of the film because it gives me a feeling of “Aw, home!”

I craved watching NM this weekend, so I did. Without drinking. And I watched it from an entirely unbiased/non-LTTed perspective. And it was good. Really, really good. The acting was actually amazing: Taylor and Kristen. It was just…good. I even cried. Thrice! And I came to realize that yes, NM is my favorite.
But I think, when you pull your LTT self out of Twilight, it’s the same way. You can laugh at the actual jokes–like spider monkey is actually funny again and the “aren’t people from AZ supposed to be like tan” line is SO jessica (and you remember that book Bella thinks, “Note to self: no sarcasm in Forks” and the beat in the car ride to Forks is powerful. And it’s just… it’s just… not ridiculous, and actually good. And the say it out loud line scene is scary, because it WAS scary when I saw it the first time. And Edward is…finally hot again. sigh. “We just ran into each other and lost track of time.” smirk. Swoon. Te quiero Eduard!

And, I’m just gonna say it, Applebee’s has an amazing happy hour! $2 wells… TWO DOLLARS. That’s cheaper than a latte. I get greyhounds during trivia night on Tuesdays, and… and… I have a really fun time!

Hey TS..missed you so! Hope your doing well! Write me sometime if you get a chance at my GMAIL addy..would love to catch up! BTW found out that we have a Forks her in ME!!! Just thought I would share! xo

okay team seth…we are kindred spirits…I am convinced…
I will watch my copy of NM this weekend to give it another chance.

Oh, and UC/Moon, I’m working on a letter about Melissa Rosenberg. It’s a WIP. Give it time.

No… not like that. It’s for a Doctor Who competition so that maybe I can become a writer for the fan page. Oh god. I can’t believe I’ve just admitted to this.

Oh and GOOD LUCK! Don’t be chagrined (ha)! It can’t be as bad as having to admit to the cell phone tech guy that you’re calling tech service because you can’t comment on a Twilight site. Can it? I think it’s cool. *sending good luck vibes*

          • Anonymous

I think it could be that bad, yes. I mean, if I had to call the tech guy. Well, no, ‘cuz he may very well watch DW too. Actually, I think you may have made tech guy’s day! I trust you used this reference somewhere in the convo: “I’m begging you. Please. For Charlie. For me.”

            “Um, mam, who is Charlie?”

  • Deborah Blount

OMG – THANK YOU!! I have been feeling like that, even with the release of Eclipse. I watch Twilight 10 times to every 1 New Moon and I DID wonder WHY!? It is innocent – The BEST scene in Twilight is when Edward tries to dance with Bella – it KILLS me! I would love to hear Cathy (and Stephenie) talk about making the first one – and most of the time, the ONLY Twilight Saga movie!

    • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

Oh yes! That first attempt at a dance…I still love that scene.

  • Anonymous

While reading through the comments, I kept wondering why everyone was talking about watching Eclipse this weekend. And then I remembered that it’s coming out on DVD on Friday.
While I was at Wal-Mart last night, I saw a poster at the entrance inviting patrons to come to an Eclipse DVD release party at the store. All I could think was how it ought to be an interesting show, and that PeopleofWalmart.com should have a special Twilight category for epic events such as this.

I think CathytheCougar captured the overall spirit/essence of the book… Despite ALL that was wrong with Twilight, I still loved it. I LOVED every second of it, even the horrible acting and “purple’s cool” and the golden onion, etc… I think she did nail the emotion. And Twilight Edward is WAY hotter than NM Edward. CathytheCougar would have NEVER put him in a tweed suit.

However, she did try to give him long hair.

  • Anonymous

Twilight definitely has “the feel”, and I can tap into that feeling that I got when I first saw it everytime. I think Cathy just “got” the book, and she was just able to somehow translate that on to film(blue tint and all). After seeing the scenes the short one left out of Eclipse, I was convinced that he didnot get it at all. He was not as into the story as Cathy.

How about that “Red Riding Hood”? Same film (Twilight), different colour (Red) !!!!! Definitely will see it.

    • Team Seth

Is it the same film? From the trailer I got the impression that she was dallying with the local yokel (who is sexy as hell) and then was going to be required to marry some other dude (who is also sexy). I didn’t think she was at all torn between the two. And it’s still unclear [to me] who is the wolf. I hope that it’s Gary Oldman’s character! Sirius Greyback anyone?

      • kitkat

“the local yokel (who is sexy as hell) and then was going to be required to marry some other dude (who is also sexy)”
lol. Her life sounds really hard. That being said, sign me up for the movie. And Sirius Greyback works for me!

      • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

“From the trailer I got the impression that she was dallying with the local yokel (who is sexy as hell) and then was going to be required to marry some other dude (who is also sexy).”

Sounds like a win/win to me. Just like a certain girl from Forks. Hmm…

Gary Oldman AND Billy Burke? You must be beside yourself woman!

        :)

        • Anonymous

When I’m watching the movie, I think it’ll cross my mind that at any moment Ethan Embry will make a cameo.

    • Anonymous

Hmmm. Doesn’t sound like Twilight really, other than there’s a werewolf to me.

To me it seems like they did a FanFic of Little Red Riding Hood: “Red hooded caped young woman is set to marry a local villiager falls madly in love with a sexy badboy. Drama surrounds the villiage as it is cursed with death. The villiagers suspect a werewolf. What will happen when Red discovers her lover is a werewolf?”

And might I add. Holy HOT that Shiloh Fernandez guy is. Drooling. Dear lord, in that teaser when he picks her up hitching not one but BOTH her legs around him pinning her to the log wall. The trailer only showed a split second of it, but HOOOT.

UC/Moon saying hi and “test comment”

  • Susanmtierney

Catherine H got the pace of the romance right! The other directors rushed the love scenes especially the leg hitch….it should have been a very slow build up and it should have been a surprise for Bella…that’s a man thing….rush rush rush….

    • Team Seth

THIS! I wanna hear “Now that I have you here in my giant golden oversized bed, I’m going to take my time with you. And since I’m infinitely stronger than you, you’re not going anywhere.” ahem.

Also, they were all ‘trying to market to guys’ in the NM and Eclipse movies. All “So much action!” blah blah blah. Mr. Seth likes Twilight best. He is a TV producer and loves storytelling, and he thinks that Twi tells the best story. That the other two were just sort of scene to scene without enough emotional and character development. His favorite part of the saga is the relationship between Bella and Charlie, and he was so looking forward to see how that developed over the films, but now is disappointed that it’s moved away from that.

      • Team Seth

WHOA! My comment just said “Hace 0 minutos” when I posted it instead of “0 minutes ago”! Is this because I wrote ‘te quiero eduard’ earlier?! Sweet!

Disqus was like, “la chiquita es espanol? Ay carumba!” (crap I think I mispelled that, whatever) Then it got all super excited.

      • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

I never quite understood the need to have it cater to a certain type of man. You know, the action/adventure guy who hates romance. I mean, I see why…but…it is about a girl falling in love ultimately. Even Vampire Diaries and in a way True Blood, being way more graphic, still seem to be more for a female audience. No matter how hard they try for the male demographic. If a boy wants pure violent vampire yuck, there’s always Blade.

Okay, I got my disqus account. This is old kitkit, previously of the green avatar with tiny font no one could read, posting as new kitkat89, with super schmexy Tay-Tay avatar.
Anywho… I think that for me the draw of Twilight is the nostalgia. Like some have said in earlier comments, Twi was the first. There was all that anticipation for the movie, and it was all us fans of the books. The number of haters was significantly less, ditto the number of crazies. I enjoyed the film, but I have also enjoyed the improvements made on the next two. Conclusion: thanks Cathy, but I’m glad we moved on. (ha! no fear of thumbs down for saying I don’t like something!)

    • Anonymous

Not a huge fan of Tay myself, but that picture is pretty smokin’.
Hmm…maybe there should be a contest to see who has the hottest avatar on here…but then again, with all the love for The Pretty there might be the slightest advantage for some. ;)

Yeah, we all have new identies. I’m now my “That’s Normal” shirt. Yep, you are staring at my chest. Nice huh?

I miss my little rat-looking bug.

      • Team Seth

We’re staring at your chest? It sort of looks like a tattoo not a shirt… That’s normal.

        • Anonymous

Yeah you are staring at my chest, really close up. The meager thing that it is.

I suppose the pink color shirt looks like a normal person’s skin tone, but there’s NO WAY I EVER have that much color. Unless I spent 10 min in the sun w/o sunblock (insta-lobster). Yep, I’m white. Like Bella white. No. Alice white. I practically sparkle with my paleness. I TOTALLY related to Bella’s “albino” joke in Twilight. Maybe I’m part vampire… It would only be fitting. My husband’s name and the fact that he’s part Chippewa (would have been cooler if it was Quilleute, but whatever) so maybe I’m like a vampire’s great, great, great, great, great granddaughter or something.

BTW – I do like that pic of Taylor.

But like I told my friend when I saw the first Eclipse preview showing Jacob in that tight, black shirt outside Bella’s school. “This does NOT mean I’m switching teams. I’m still 100% Team Edward, but, HOLY FREAKING HOOOOT!”

Merci, to Team Seth and TeamJacobEdward. It’s from way back when he was on SNL. It came up periodically when they came back from commercials, and after obsessive-compulsively clicking through 50 pages on google images and coming up zilch, I did what any girl with a computer-oriented dad would do: I took a screen shot of the SNL page and cropped. :)

Who knew I already had a Disquius account? Huh. And look, it goes back to my old cute avi….. awww.

I kind of agree with UC here, (sorry moon, I love you too, my PST sister). There is just something grotty about Twilight, the other ones are too slick. I tend to like weird little indie films, with low budgets and questionable acting. So really, it was right up my alley….

I cannot get the blue adjusted properly on my current TV at all, though. Edward’s lips are ridiculously red. Like ridiculously. Like ‘husband comes in the room and makes snarky remarks’- ridiculous.

  • Anonymous

I have to admit that Twilight’s “Bedroom Scene Kiss” and the “Prom Dance Kiss” got me far more hot and bothered than Leg Hitch did. I liked Leghitch and all, don’t get me wrong, but as “bad” as the Twilgiht movie was, there was a LOT I liked about it.

I think I know why the leghitch while TECHICALLY perfect didn’t do it for me like the first kiss and prom kiss did in Twi. It lacked the FEELING of sensuality and tortured lust and angst. It seemed more like two teenagers making out in a way.

PS – I DOWN THUMBS the new comments. Sorry Moon and UC. I know you’re the bosses and what you say goes but this SUCKS that I can’t comment from my phone now. Plus it resulted in a reeeeeeaaaallllyy awkward conversation with my cell phone’s tech guy when I was calling that I couldn’t comment on a website because they used Disqus. I could just about hear the guy’s thoughts of judgement when I had to suck it up and tell him what site had Disqus so they could look into it and see if they couldn’t fix it. Yeah, I’m sure the guy will really look into it further for the chick who tweaked out about not being able to comment on a Twilight site so much that she had to call tech support. Uh huh. I love you UC & Moon but for the love of all that is holy Disqus is killing me. Now when I look for the posts in the morning (per my routine) ALL the fun is sucked out of it because I am unable to comment. I didn’t really have anything to say right away today, but that was a moot point because all the fun was gone because I knew that I COULDN’T even if I wanted to while I’m on the go. Whine, whine, whine, whine. I know. Suck it up, right? Yeah, yeah. Easy for you to say. You all can comment from your phones I bet.

    • Team Seth

AW TJE! Big hug! It was sad not having your comments all day. Though…and this is selfish…it’s kind of nice for me because I’m PST and so now you comment during my late morning, which is the big “lull” on the LTT comment board, but the time when I’m most able to comment. (which is likely why I comment WAY too much).

If it makes you feel any better, I can’t do anything from my phone. It doesn’t even have a camera! I just have to risk getting caught at work on LTT and hoping they won’t move me to a cubicle in a really public area of the office.

      • Team Seth

Oops, not late morning! I just had lunch late today and got confused on the time… my afternoon I meant!

      • Anonymous

        Aw, thx. :D

        Hahaha! Like this:
        ———-
“TS,” (not to be mistaken for Taylor Swift) your boss’ voice booms loudly. “You can’t be trusted. We’ve been monitoring your computer, and you sit and comment on some Twilight,” he spats like it’s a dirty word, “site all day. Here. Sit here,” points to a no-walled cubical in the middle of an open area where all co-workers can see the monitor. “This is your new work station.”

TS cries as she sits in her little island. She can’t help but think how different this island is from the one she so adores that contains feathers and busted headboards.

TS’s boss starts to walk away, then turns back and adds over his shoulder, “We’ll be watching.”

TS’s wet, red eyes go bugged at her boss’ Twilight reference wondering if it was on purpose or just happenstance.
        ———

        • Anonymous

hahaha! That sounds like the worst day of my life (at this company). Except my boss making the Twi reference, which would make me laugh out loud and tell him that I knew all along his big, dirty secret! And then I would have to figure out who on LTT he is… or maybe he ISN’T on LTT! He’s on LTR only… and, and, omg. This is all coming together now!!!

There was a raw energy between Kristen and Rob in the first Twilight movie that captured the tension between Bella and Edward. IMO, that energy was lacking between Kristen and Rob in New Moon, and was only sporadically present in Eclipse, despite the fact that the latter two movies were better made in terms of cinematography and special effects. I am crossing my fingers that Bill Condon knows how to direct Rob and Kristen so that they are able to recapture that electricity.

Hello! I took all day to get around to reading LTT, finally did and was about to comment earlier, but was on my ancient Blackberry and I couldn’t get it to work. Note to self: buy iPhone 4 tomorrow so I can post comments to LTT on-the-go.

So, now that I can’t receive thumbsdowns (they used to really depress me) I’m just going to cut to the chase tonight and say it like it is.

I really hated Twilight the movie. Sorry UC but just can’t relate to you at all on feeling nostalgic for it (which is unusual, typically I can relate to you most of the time… in fact, I can even relate to you thinking about Twilight during yoga practice. I have tried to go into deep meditation during class but will often get interrupted by random Twilight thoughts, i.e., “I wonder if Edward does yoga – insert pretty picture here of Edward yogaing it up on Isle Esme-“… or I think about Mike Yorkie, whose name sort of sounds like a dog, or yoga (by the way I almost typed Mike Chang there) and how he used to plan trips to LaPush beach and never does anymore… or I think about how Bella should have taken Yin yoga to help prepare herself for the pain of becoming a vampire, I mean it can’t be worse than “toe pose”…etc.)

But clearly I digress. Here’s why I did not like Cathy’s Twilight:
    – the blue. makes me queasy. No movie should be totally blue and out of focus. Don’t even get me started on the jerky, swirly camera motions.
    – Edward had too much makeup on. So did Carlisle. In contrast, Bella had too little on.
    – The music, while ok on its own, was inserted in odd points and moments throughout the movie and was often too loud
    – The scene in the science lab was horrid. horrid horrid. The theatre full of people laughed and I was mortified. This was supposed to be the dramatic, terrifying, ground-breaking scene when Bella and Edward were forced together, the one that drew me into the book back when I read it, and instead we had something that looked more like a spoof of Stephenie’s vision.
    – the blinking and stuttering was at its worst in this one
    – I am amazed that people liked the kiss on the bed. To me, it was icky. Not romantic at all. Am I the only old-fashioned romantic out there who likes a big sweeping romantic moment, like Kate and Leo on the prow of the Titanic or The Captain and Maria dancing the jaegermeister (or whatever that dance was called) at the party? I like a big pomp and circumstance romantic moment, not a romantic moment with teens in underwear sloppily kissing on a Target bedspread. Sorry, that did nothing to/for me.

As a side note, and to its credit, I sort of liked the integration of Au Clair de la Lune (as awkward and weird as the “it’s great” comment was) and I thought the use of Rob’s song in the fiery scene was kind of cool. Also, Edward getting all angry at the rapist dudes and shoving Bella into the Volvo was not bad. And, they got the prom scene right. At least.

Reading more of the other comments and feeling vaguely out of place here. I just wonder if I dislike the first movie so much because I read the book about a year and a half before the movie and followed the progress of the movie all along. My expectations were REALLY high and I was pretty disappointed. I guess I just can’t get over that initial disappointment I felt when I saw it the first time.

    • Anonymous

I can agree with this. I laughed too. And my sister had to explain what the hell was going on. (I hadn’t read the book and didn’t know anything about it). Actually, come to think of it, later after I’d read the book I saw the movie again, I kept wondering where scenes were. Like I had imagined the scenes so vividly when I read the book that all of the sudden Tyler wasn’t asking her to prom, Lauren didn’t exist (and I even had the perfect vision of her from this mean girl named Lauren in middle school!), it was all too easy to escape from Alice and Jasper, and there was no ‘big reveal’ of how vampires were killed (which was the first major thing E intentionally kept from B besides his vampire status–sort of a set up for the rest of his lying in books to come, ahem). Among other scenes. And the Charlie bit w/ the diner pissed me off. It ended up making the whole character of Bella change from what she was in the books. Entirely change. “You were never a kid, always middle age.” Um, not in the movie! Sigh.

You’re not alone. I have no nostalgia for it either, with the exception of the bedroom kiss. I liked it alot. But other than that, I will most likely never, of my own accord, watch the movie again.

Have to say I loved CH’s adaptation. Although it was very different to the book it was faithful to the spirit of Twilight and felt like an extra couple of paragraphs rather than a whole new book. There is something strange and beautiful about it which is picked up in the soundtrack which felt like the classic movie soundtracks of the 80’s (Lost Boys, Pretty In Pink) rather than just background noise. I get shivers everytime I hear the tracks off it.

But most importantly, CH understood the appeal of Edward and was as much in love with the concept of him (and Rob) as we all are. The whole pic is a homage to male beauty and its effect on our gussets. I guess male directors are more into the big scenes and action shots. I know people weren’t keen on the blue filter, but I thought it just made him even more startingly handsome (oh the blue shirt….) and she remembered to include him SMILING and teasing which the others forgot about.

Having said all that I do love New Moon (apart from cringeworthy dodgy scripts and Ned’s history professor wardrobe) and liked the fact that CW kept true to the book and included the ‘empty’ sections of it. Eclipse? I’m sad to say i’ve watched it a few times but it just didn’t move me the way the others did. Maybe DS focused too much on pleasing the Jacob-lovers and sometimes let him steal the show which is wrong on so many levels. That and the man-pleasing action shots and £2 engagement ring.

hehe just spent ages choosing an avatar :-) Yeah I miss Cathy. Whenever I watch THE twilight kiss it’s way better than any of the others in the series even though the book kiss wasn’t all that…

anytime I hear music from the twilight soundtrack on my mp3, I get that longing to watch Twilight….and honestly, I am excited to see little red riding hood because of cathy. Twilight the movie is good because it is so bad….and a treasured independent film, flaws and all. there is truly nothing else like it.
