Eclipse The Movie: Then & Now

Dear Eclipse DVD consumers,

So….Eclipse? Did you watch it? I am well-aware that Eclipse didn’t release this weekend everywhere in the world and that just sucks. Seriously, move to America. Not only do you not have Thanksgiving & you have to like soccer but you don’t even get movies at the same time we do! Not-Cool-rest of the world! (No really, stay in your country. I’m sure it’s great, I WISH more people liked soccer, and I’d really like to visit you in your country).

Anyway, I watched Eclipse at 9 pm Saturday night with @Brookelockart & pals. Let me set the scene: Fishtown Pennsylvania: I park under a bridge, think I’m gonna die but survive my 2 block walk to Brooke’s new house. I almost catch my scarf on fire making my world-famous stove-top popcorn, then I almost kill us with heart attacks using an entire ocean-filled with salt on my world-famous popcorn. Oops. But the time comes and we pop in the DVD (after figuring out how to use the DVD & watching Comcast On Demand Eclipse Extras in HD where Edward looks more like a dying ghost instead of a hot vampire because his make-up is so white). We watch the first 15 mintues. Then stop & re-start the first 15 minutes because some more people decided to join (semi-Twi virgins, which was HILARIOUS to experience with)

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t much looking forward to the movie. I don’t really know why- I just don’t think I was in a Twi-mood. But as soon as the drum kick sounded & the line “An innocent child in new orleans” sung by the Black Keys came through the TV speakers, I remembered…. and got the butterflies inside. It was interesting that I didn’t think about the 2nd time I saw the movie with my Philly Twi pals- no… it was the first Eclipse experience. I remember sitting next to Moon, squeezing her hand in anticipation.. and that first “Oh heyyyyyy” Moon said when Riley appeared on screen. Dang I forgot how hot that kid was but Oh Heyyyyy, Xavier, still!

(Oh, yes: You’re welcome)

But let’s recap what Moon & I thought about Eclipse almost 6 months ago when we penned you a letter at 4:30 am and see if our thoughts still stick. I just re-read Oh heyyyy we just saw Eclipse” and had a big chuckle. Which generally means it’s only funny to me! But overall, I thought or said out loud some of the exact same thoughts Saturday Night without remembering I had said them before. Here I thought I was being original when it turns out I was just ripping off myself from 6 months ago:

Original Thought: “Let’s talk about how we love Howard Shore for including the Sia & Metric songs throughout his score.”

Yes. I still love that. I haven’t listened to the Eclipse soundtrack for awhile (but New Moon has been playing daily in my office again!) so it all seemed new to me again! And when Edward was working Bella up only to let her down BIG TIME, I remembered the Sia song that was building up in the background- and then during the Leg hitch it explodes into beautifulness (the explosion is music beautifulness, much to Bella’s dismay) At which point I leaned over to Brookelockart and whispered “You know what? Edward could just go down on her & it would be fine. Win Win” Then we had a conversation entirely too inappropriate to share.

And DUDE where are all the Twilight fans with way too much time on their hands ripping these legit Eclipse scenes to You Tube for our viewing pleasure this weekend? Sorry for this crappy quality of an illegal video:

The score has always been lacking in my mind- Mr. Choice (a music composer himself) has always been a bit confused as to what exactly happened there- because we’re pretty sure that’s not the original score Howard Shore wrote- but the use of Metric & Sia throughout the entire theme is beautiful.

Original thoughtLet’s apologize to Edward for liking the Jacob & Bella kiss a litttttle bit too much”

Hmmmm….. I remember thinking even then that Taycob needs to calm down the head movements, but it was WAY distracting this time. I know for awhile there it seemed like I was riding the “Team Jacob” line, and I’m not sure where my head was, but I’m definitely back on Edward’s side. So I think I was just too pissed to enjoy Bella’s lucky day- with two boys who want her. PLUS the Twi-virgins we were with (who were ALL ABOUT Jacob- evidenced by the “oh shitttttss” that were moaned every time he appeared with his shirt off) REALLY couldn’t stand Bella’s wishy-washy-ness. Maybe it’s been so long since I’ve read the books & gotten so annoyed with Bella that I forgot. But I was reminded during that scene. And was thinking too strongly that “Bella’s a Bitch” to enjoy the kiss.

Original ThoughtLet’s get Jake some blotting tissues for that last scene when he looks like he’s dying of yellow fever.”

Dude! I already used that Yellow Fever joke!? I seriously thought the same thing Saturday night and planned to use it again today. I get it- he’s in pain- he’s sick- but dudeeeee. At least let Bella wipe him down a bit. I felt like I was looking at “The Situation” after he fell asleep in the tanning bed & stayed in for an hour or two too long (new joke- boom)

Original Thought
“Let’s put a call into L.A. Looks, and after thanking them for sponsoring Twilight with their donations of tubs of hair gel, ask them to move some of the allotted product for Taylor & pass it on to Rob to fix his floppy bangs.”

Move over L.A. Looks

I was getting a D.E.P. vibe Saturday night. And I think I was so happy to see Rob for an extended period of time without a big bushy beard & maintained sideburns (sorta) that I didn’t mind the floppy bangs! I’ll take what I can get!

Original ThoughtLet’s close our eyes and picture OURSELVES as Bella in a world where the guy on the bed is so hot that the gold brocade bedding he’s laying on doesn’t even matter.”

I mean…. can gold brocade ever not really matter? If Chuck Bass, Damon Salvatore & Edward Cullen wanted to have a foursome, but the condition was that it had to be on gold brocade bedding, I’d really try to convince them to pull out that air mattress they keep in the closet at the Salvatore mansion for when unexpected Vamp visitors swing by. Or see if we can borrow Rob Pattinson’s Hot Pocket Fort.

Original Thought “Let’s be grateful that most of the Bella/Edward getting-it-on scenes didn’t make us feel like we were watching Robsten preparing for an evening of licking cheese-whiz off each other”

I know! I mean, I’d say that none of the scenes made me feel that way this time. And I was worried- I mean, we’ve had Moantreal since Eclipse came out. But I got no Robsteny-vibes. I still think the Bella/Edward dialogue is semi-awkward with these long, drawn-out pauses in the beginning, but it picks up as it goes on.

Original thought
“Let’s talk about when we can burn down the jewelry store that created Bella’s engagement ring.”

THIS! Why have we not planned an LTT arson-day yet? I think one of the Twi-virgins’ exact words were “What the hell is that thing?
We don’t know, Twi virgin. It’s either a cheese grater for when they make “Italiano” or is a rock powerful enough to kill all the Cullen men with one blow. The jury is still out on that one.

And there is no original thought to accompany this one but JORTS!. I think it’s because I know that Stephenie mentions it in the commentary that I was looking out for how often they are worn, but DANG! They are EVERYWHERE. I like to think LTT can take some credit for that since we “Have much love for Jorts” or however Stephenie phrased it in the commentary (again- DUDE with the Twilight fans with a lot of extra time! Where is your screen shot transcription of the entire commentary!?) But sadly, no, we did not come up with the term. We have to thank the hipster neighborhoods both Moon & I reside in in Philadelphia & Los Angeles and the rednecks from which the hipsters stole their jorts-look.

All-in-all, my thoughts didn’t change much from my original viewing back in June. But I enjoyed this time around much more than expected. My only complaint is that they still weren’t able to figure out a way to keep Riley alive. Who cares about book to movie continuity? We want Xavier Samuel to stare at!!

Oh heyyyyy,
UnintnededChoice

What did you think? Did you watch the movie with some pals this weekend? Did you love it more or less than when you saw it months ago? Any new thoughts come to mind? Any new ah-ha moments or lines that were funny THIS time around!??

Bought it first thing Saturday morning, didn’t watch it until Sunday night & even then, I watched only the 1st 45 min. I don’t know what is going on but I did that with NM too-loved it in the theatre, couldn’t wait to get the DVD, then was “Meh.” The only movie that wowed me on the small screen was Twilight but I didn’t see it in the theatre. I’m a fickle bitch.

I did laugh my ass off though when Jacob first appeared on the screen, outside of the high school. That look on his face-pouty overacting much? I was also more distracted by his nostrils and general alpacaness this time around.

I will need lots of strength (read: Patrón) to get thru Breaking Dawn.

    • drsaka

      ‘general alpacaness’- hahahaha

      • alice_av

“general alpacaness” lol make my day =D

    • Anonymous

I was going to say the same thing. I also only watched a bit of the DVD this weekend before I decided it was too Meh. I guess I just wasn’t in the mood. Somehow it was better this summer, with the theatre and the air conditioning during the heat wave and the buttery popcorn and giant Icee. At my desk while it’s snowing just isn’t the same. Also, somehow Edward looked whiter than usual on the DVD. I think I need to adjust the brightness/contrast of my monitor. And as much as I love Jacob, you are right, he was extremely alpaca-y in this movie.

The ring: imagine having to wear that for eternity.

    • TeamSeth

“Hi, Aro, it’s Bella. Yeah, Bella Swan. I need your help.”

  • GeminiGypsy

I found that I remembered many of the lines exactly even though I only saw Eclipse twice in theaters! It was just as good seeing it again on DVD this weekend :)

  • Aleishacd

Watched it yesterday. Gotta say I love this movie. Wasn’t as distracted by the God-awful wigs this time; I think I was blocking them out. Hated the part where the wolf-pack talks about Jake’s inner monologue even more so. I loved the sexy times even more watching the DVD. I think there was so much build up for the leg hitch scene that when I saw Eclipse in the theater, I was like, “Meh.” But watching it yesterday, I really liked that part. And please, the decor would be the least of my concerns if I had that hot piece of man meat on a bed. :)

One thing that bothers me though that I never hear anyone mention: Okay, so Bella has to marry Edward if she wants him to change her himself. I get that — it’s an even exchange; I give something and you give something. BUT, then she says that in order to marry him, he has to do her. That has bugged me since the book — she’s putting a condition on his condition — that’s not really compromising Bella. I think Edward should’ve come back with, “Fine, I’ll do you but only if you let me watch you and Angela get it on first.” Does that bother anyone else?

    • MariaCecilia

The part where he says he wants to watch Angie and Bella get it on? Yes, that part REALLY bothered me…

    • suzyb49

Yes that always bothered me too. And watching it this weekend when Edward says “you’re already giving away too much” at the end about the wedding it annoyed me so bad. What is she giving away she has him and a little something on the side and then makes her stupid speech about wanting to be a vampire not because of him. I hate that damn speech at the end. The whole reason she is becoming a vampire is to be with him.

I wish he would come back at her with something! I hate how she runs off with Jake on the motorcycle and yells at him for Jake overhearing about the engagement oh and saves his life with the 3rd wife thing – none of it happens that way in the book. They make Edward look like a total wimp. Ok I’m done now.

      • TeamSeth

In his mind, she’s giving away her soul.

    • Anonymous

I agree, that’s always bugged me too. She’s not compromising, she’s manipulating!

    • Anonymous

I agree, that’s always bugged me too. She’s not compromising, she’s manipulating!

    • TeamSeth

I don’t see how she’s putting a condition on a condition. In book and movie Twilight he says he wants her to have every human experience — including prom. If anything, she’s agreeing to one of his conditions. It’s just worded weird in Eclipse the movie and makes it sound like she’s throwing in another condition.

  • Solitagirl

i was okay with it until that Damn Maria started whispering ” Chupale y la chupues…blah blah blah” in Jasper’s ear.
    Horrible Horrible Horrible line!
my tias from the Old Mexico, the tias from the New Mexico, and I (the only Texican) were laughing hysterically. Summit should have hired someone who is actually fluent in Spanish to write that scene.

    • alice_av

not only your tias, my friend and I were laughing so hard on that one and spanish is our native tongue….

    • Anonymous

What is she supposed to be saying and what did she actually say?

    • TeamSeth

Same for Aro’s Italian lines! It’s just like, “Okay, spend less money on the wigs–oh wait, no, that’s not actually possible. Okay, spend less money on the extra 5 million hairs on CGI wolves and more money on hiring an interpreter/translator for MRosenberg.” Sigh.

      • http://www.talksupe.wordpress.com snowwhitedrifted

Or wait, why not use the extra 5 million CGI wolf hairs FOR the wigs???! Win win.

  • http://twitter.com/deb7780 Deborah Blount

UC – Eclipse was on my porch at 5:00 PM Friday (thanks Amazon) and for some reason, unlike New Moon, I HAD to watch it – right then and then I HAD to watch it again, and it couldn’t just be in the background, I HAD to watch it. Last week I sang the praises of Twilight – but now I don’t know . . . Eclipse was like my own brand of heroin . . . . .

  • MariaCecilia

Aaaaahhh..I wish I had shared your epic popcorn-session – but unfortunately I watched alone on the couch with a cold since everyone had deserted me for the weekend..
It wasn’t as great an experience as I had hoped (still can’t get over how pale and sort of OLD Robward looks, more New Moon than Twilight: c’mon, get out of your NM depression already dude!) but it was still enjoyable. *sigh*

I love the SIA song too, the only thing that gives me the shivers in this movie. (No, wait, that was probably my cold…)

  • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

So I don’t have it yet. I might be very sad about this. Also, sad about no Riley in Breaking Dawn. I really need the DVD for that first scene…Riley and The Black Keys. All sorts of lovely!

Then UC, you made me happy again…”Chuck Bass, Damon Salvatore and Edward Cullen. I have an increasing appreciation of Chuck Bass. You know my feelings for Damon Salvatore. (sigh) Also, Edward! Happy thoughts for the rest of the day as I Christmas shop. Thank you so very much!

    • Anonymous

You had me at Damon! Thud…….

  • Anonymous

I didn’t buy it (sorry, bad fan card) but watched the version from Redbox, which DID NOT HAVE ANY SPECIAL FEATURES. No commentaries, nothing. Boooring. For me, the movie was just “eh.” Here’s one random thought, and you can all boo me or whatever – the only actor portraying a Cullen who matches the hotness described in the book is Emmett. I’ve always thought that. Pfach is good looking and all (I mean, really, they ALL are, they’re actors for crying out loud) but in the book they are INHUMANLY BEAUTIFUL. Sorry, but Nikki & Co. don’t really cut it. Plus Pfach is just too old to play Carlisle. There, I said it. He’s supposed to look like he’s in his twenties (early twenties, even!). Yeah, I don’t think so.
And here’s where you’re all REALLY going to hate me – Kabuki Rob isn’t even quite hot enough to be Edward. I mean, that’s a big burden for anyone to carry, considering that he is described as perhaps the most beautiful man in the entire world, or however SM writes it. And I actually think Rob is a GOOD Edward – he’s got the whole charisma/sexy bit going on, but still. I’m not totally satisfied.

You know, here’s a thought that just occurred to me – I think Rob as Rob is hotter than Rob as Edward. Whatever they do to him on set kinda ruins it. OH YES!!! I just got it!!!! I can blame de-hottifying of Robward on SUMMIT!!!!!!!

All is right with the world.

    • Anonymous

      Yes, it’s always Summit’s fault!

I can’t decide if Rob gets less hot as Edward because he’s getting older and white pancake makeup tends to emphasize age lines on anyone’s face, or because Rob complained so much about the bouffant and the lipstick in Twilight, they let him have too much control over the “look” in New Moon and Eclipse and he doesn’t know hot to hottify himself. Cathy Hardie knew what she was doing.
Luckily the sneak leaks from Breaking Dawn show a lot of promise–he’s looking very fresh-faced from what I’ve seen. Maybe it’s the honeymoon glow?
Thank goodness all the filming will be over in a few months and we can breath a sigh of relief that Rob doesn’t haven’t to look like a teenager any more, and he can be as manly as possible in his next films! I’m sure he’s looking forward to it.

      • TeamSeth

I figured out the issue during yesterday’s viewing of the proposal scene (the one where she’s taking off his clothes and he tells her to stop trying to take of her clothes). He only wears button down shirts now. Instead of emphasizing his sexiness with tight, SHORT sleeved, tshirts from Express, he’s in these loose, thick scratchy cotton shirts from Walmart and/or Costco. It’s like they come in 3-paks. Cougwicke did know what she was doing when it came to dressing Edward. I’ll admit it.

I want tight tshirts, I want the emo Cullen crest band, I want to see his arms again, and I want that penetrating sexy times stare rather than his pissed off sourpuss face that looks like he accidentally ate the wrong flavor of Bertie Bott’s All Flavoured Beans. I want sexy 17 y/o Edward back. He was hot. (yeah, I said it.)

        • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

Oh my…remember the tight tee shirt with the sleeves pushed up in Twilight. The first Edward scene….happy flashbacks.

Ohh…somebody’s post is up today…ahem on Talk Supe. Somebody named Team Seth…

Either post it here or email me at my gmai address? THANKS…HUGS!

Off topic: I’ve gone back to TeamSeth only for comments! Don’t worry :) I did it some for you, but mostly for me because I felt like I’d been stripped of my identity. And I didn’t want you to not read my comments ‘cuz you didn’t know who TeamCurmudgeon was (which is more for me than you)

Sorry you’re sick! You must have snuck out to WalMart and caught it from NCN there ;)

LOVES YOU! Thanks so much for going back to TeamSeth..I don’t do well with change!! :) Who told you I snuck out to get Eclipse at Wal-Mart..only to get lost in my own backyard..never made it there, didn’t get the movie and only got sick..lol..xoxo

It’s distressingly out of date, though, due to lack of laptop and excessive fanfic writing. I’m about to be disowned by all the grandmas and aunts of my kids if I don’t get back on the horse with it SOON.

My my RL best Twi friend would LOVE you about the Emmett comment. She’s SO in love with Kellen/Emmett. And you are right. Emmett is the closest book to movie carry-over.

And no hate from me dear. I HATED Summit’s pick of Rob at first. But then I kind of fell for Rob and all his Rob-ness. But as in lust as I am with him, he doesn’t match the Edward in my mind. But I don’t know if anyone would have to be honest so I’ve kind of let that go.

      de-hottifying LOVE

I am not hawt for Rob..never have been…Eddie is my guy, which is why I sleep with him everynight..oh yes TWSS!!! SOOO GLAD there isn’t a thumbsdown button anymore! ;) But your so right! Would ANYONE really have matched up to what/who we would have imagined Edward to look like on the big screen???

  • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

I need to listen to the soundtrack again after the post that SWD and I did about the soundtrack. I might…umm..have to take back my first impressions of Metric. (don’t you judge me and my wishy washiness, UC) I might…umm..like that song alot now.

But…not as much, as the previously mentioned Black Keys and Bombay Bicycle Club! (That song was in the Jacob/Edward schoolyard faceoff) Honestly, I have been downloading ALL there music! (So good, but unfortunately the song was only on the deluxe edition soundtrack. BTW…I REALLY WANT THIS MOVIE! :0)

  • Anonymous

    I watched it thrice.

    DON’T JUDGE!!!!!

So, while Mr JacobEdward was at a basketball game, I popped in Eclipse turning on the commentary. I listened to both Rob/Kristen and then Stephenie/Wyk while I cleaned the house and prepared for my daughter’s birthday (which I have to admit, having the commentary on significantly slowed the preparation process). BTW – They should def do that for BD I & II (Rob/Kristen AND Steph). Loved it. Lots of laughs.

Then my husband came home and turned on some sports something or other. Psht. I didn’t want to watch that. SO, I decided to actually WATCH the movie because with the commentary on, you really don’t hear any of the actual movie because they’re talking over it. So I played the movie (sans commentary). I sat and watched it.

It was good. But I have to admit. I’m more and more disapointed in the leghitch scene every time I watch it. (gasp!) Sure it’s great. I love the entire scene in Edward’s room, but… (whomever brought it up here) it really does look like she’s more kneeing him than hiting her leg over his hip.

Maybe it’s all the fanfic… I’m expecting “Raw and Unsensored.” (You know, like I’m fully expecting an alternate version of BD to come out with.)

    • suzyb49

I watched it twice once regular and once with the Rob and Kristen commentary. In my defense the 2nd time was on a long car trip. I thought it was funny how R&K were talking about the leg hitch and they didn’t get why people wanted it in the movie. You can tell when you listen to them that they probably skim the books and don’t really read them. K was like “oh i must have been focusing on something else like her running her hands through his hair”. In the book the leg hitch takes Bella by surprise that he would go that far – in the movie it happens while she thinks he has agreed to sleep with her so it doesn’t have the same effect. Maybe that’s why it is a bit of a letdown.

      • efam

You’re so right. I wish they did the whole Alice kidnapping scene. The leg-hitch would be better and Bella wouldn’t be just hopping on Jacob’s bike in front of Edward. *Sigh* Still a good movie but I just don’t like that scene.

      • Mammacucci

i think you’ve hit the nail on the head, so to speak. the leg hitch in the book takes her by suprise and the squeeeee moment is sort of lost in the movie. also, i think slade moved the camera in too close in the scene. you can’t really see what’s going on until after the leg has already been hitched! i can’t believe i am analyzing this…….normal, right?!

    • Midnight Cougar (MC)

Yep definitely lacking in the smexy stuff, esp. afte all the raunchy FanFics. I’m not judging you my friend, I’ve seen the damned movie 7 times! :-) I PM’d you with my e-mail.

      • Anonymous

Raunchy? No, no, I don’t read raunchy fanfics….. well maybe they skim the edge… It all depends on your definition of “raunchy.” Maybe we define it differently.

Welllllllllll after running away screaming, I did go back to (and now love, love, love) MOTU… so, I guess you’re kinda right there… (Where’s Icy’s update? It’s been THREE DAYS!? *twitch*)

But at least I redeem myself with Fics like Wrenfield Hall and Forks and Edward Wallbanger…. okay well maybe Wallbanger is a little… nah, that’s not raunchy… it’s just schmexy. hehehe

(& Yepper. I owe you an email dearie…. look for it soon!!!)

  • chochang

off topic. but, since you brought up the Vampire Diaries..

have you girls noticed just how much they’ve alluded to Twilight this season? case in point: Kristen Stewart was actually mentioned in the last episode. In the previous episodes, we also got to see Caroline tell Tyler “I know what you are” and then Tyler later on tells her “Say it! Say it. (Out loud)”. And then there’s this new bitchy vampire called Rose who looks a bit too much like Alice. And what do ya know? She has a friend named Alice as well!

i don’t know. is it just me?

    • http://letterstotwilight.com UnintendedChoice

yes! I loved that Kstew mention last episode….. I think it’s just SO in pop-culture & they are probably so tired of the comparisons so they decide to exploit it

    • http://talksupe.wordpress.com Stacey

They mention Twilight all the time! Which is funny, because Vampire Diaries was actually first. That and Somerhalder keeps mentioning Twilight in interviews. Did you know it’s his birthday this week? I am so lame.

      • TeamSeth

No, I didn’t know it was his birthday, but I love that you know and shared it with us :)

You know, they really could save their use for Felix if they just used Elijah’s compelling methods… wait, what am I saying?! I <3 Cudmore!

off topic. but, since you brought up the Vampire Diaries..

have you girls noticed just how much they’ve alluded to Twilight this season? case in point: Kristen Stewart was actually mentioned in the last episode. In the previous episodes, we also got to see Caroline tell Tyler “I know what you are” and then Tyler later on tells her “Say it! Say it. (Out loud)”. ahh, the hubby and i actually spent Sunday afternoon and evening watching all 3 in order while eating popcorn, drinking coffee, then eating ham & drinking Hein (*high-5* to Rob on that one). it was glorious since it was cold outside w/ snow on the ground.
*le sigh* and the hubs was totally into it right along with me! so cute.

i enjoyed it a LOT amd i think i liked Eclipse more this time around… less things to be hug-up on, except Bella’s nasty-tail wig/weave, bleck. that was sicknast in several scenes.
BUT over-all loved the whole experience. my hubby is warm like Jacob and dreamy like Edward. it was leg-hitch-heaven!

    • Anonymous

A couple friends and my sisters have a Twilight “marathon” tentatively planned. We were going to do it right when Eclipse came out, but with the Holidays it’s positively impossible. We’ll probably do it in January some time. Bunch of girls eating popcorn & drinking (dear God I hope I can drink again by then).

I’m COMPLETELY jealous that you got your hubs to watch not one but all of them with you. Mine won’t touch any Twi thing with a 10-ft pole.

(PS – you should listen to the Steph commentary, she totally agrees about the bad Bella wigs. It’s funny)

I’ve watched it 1.5 times this weekend and I plan on watching the Rob & Kris commentary today.
My mom distracted me during the Leg Hitch scene. She couldn’t get over that Bella told her dad that she was a virgin and then wanted to sleep with Edward that night. I get it from a parents’ perspective, but still…
I remember being irritated in the theater that Edward acts like a pansy after Bella kisses Jacob. He didn’t explain in the movie that he felt this was his fault b/c he left Bella….and I found out yesterday that scene was cut. They did film it and just cut it (in the extended scenes on the DVD). I wish they left that in for the Twi-virgins or non-readers (which still baffles me that people watch these movies and never read the books).

Also, I found another Twi-hard yesterday. :) I have known this girl for a couple of years and I know that she knew for awhile that I’m a huge fan. Yesterday, I was walking with her to get our kids out of the nursery and she whispered to me that she was reading the Twilight books for the millionth time. Stopped me dead in my tracks. :)

“It’s either a cheese grater for when they make “Italiano” or is a rock powerful enough to kill all the Cullen men with one blow.” <– Bahahaha! Thank you for that.

I haven't purchased or watched the Eclipse DVD yet, but I have seen commercials for it on TV. Every time I see the commercial, I shout "It was NEVER a choice!" at the TV, but really what I'm most struck by is how creepy Edward's makeup looks. I don't remember questioning my attraction to him so much in the theater…

I don’t have too much to add because I didn’t quite make it through the DVD this weekend. I just wasn’t feeling enough magicness to sit through it.

As a side note, you mentioned Moantreal in your post today. In all seriousness, I often think “Moantreal” not “Montreal” when I see the city’s name. Which is a huge problem because I live in Moan-I mean, Montreal.

Reason #495 LTT has had a huge impact on my life…

It is a nice city! Very unique. But it has more magicness when it’s warm and summery. I’m moaning these days… but only because of the cold!

(Wow, using “magicness” and “moaning” two comments in a row…I could keep going with this!)

        • Midnight Cougar (MC)

You should write a FanFic, you’d fit right in with words like “moaning”.

The idea of your “inappropriate” conversation with Brooke made me laugh very hard… then contemplate… and then decide that this is probably a fanfic somewhere and that I’m definately not going looking for it.

    • http://letterstotwilight.com UnintendedChoice

haha….. I felt VERY fan fic-y even bringing it up, but it HAD to be said. she could keep the “technical’ virginity- take care of her horniness, and edward wouldn’t hurt her. WIN WIN

I was very dissapointed. The book Bella was madly in love with edward. In the movie she was not.She hop;s on the motorcycle and rides away didnt happen in the book and the end she tells him she doesnt want to change because of her love for him but because she is wierd.I dont remember that in the book I think there was too much of Kristen and not bella.

    Nope, haven’t seen it yet.

At least it is out now in UK as well, but I haven’t decided yet whether I want to rent it first or buy my own copy.

*in tiny voice* I also may or may not be more excited about finally getting my hands on Inception DVD… Another film I haven’t seen yet.

In any case I find that this community is the best bit of Twilight saga. You ladies have made me laugh when all I wanted to do was cry. It’s been a rough year and I don’t know how I would have made it without you. Thank you all!

Saturday night my daughter & I watched just the movie together, & we both enjoyed it, again. But, I watched it ALL myself – Movie, then movie with commentary & the Extended/Deleted scenes – & may I say that I am seriously pissed at Slade for cutting out some of Rob’s best lines!

  • TeamSeth

“The score has always been lacking in my mind- Mr. Choice (a music composer himself) has always been a bit confused as to what exactly happened there-”

Yes! What happened?! There were several moments in the movie where I thought, “Wait, is that from New Moon’s score?” AND in the special features’ documentary, there’s several cuts using the NM score as the music cut. UM WHAT? It was distracting. I was sooo disappointed with the making-of docu. Poorly done I thought. What was that Taylor Time bit? Out of place, that’s what!

I have to admit I watched all the jorts parts of the stephanie commentary and squeed like a little school girl when I heard her mention LTT. Seriously you guys how crazy is that, you frickin made it into the movie that shiz is going down in history! So Rad!

    THIS, always and forever this:

“I mean…. can gold brocade ever not really matter? If Chuck Bass, Damon Salvatore & Edward Cullen wanted to have a foursome, but the condition was that it had to be on gold brocade bedding, I’d really try to convince them to pull out that air mattress they keep in the closet at the Salvatore mansion for when unexpected Vamp visitors swing by. Or see if we can borrow Rob Pattinson’s Hot Pocket Fort.”

“THIS! Why have we not planned an LTT arson-day yet?” ummm, UC, I can think of several reasons (not that you don’t have just cause!).

Anyways, I laughed lots today, and am now anxiously counting down the days till I can get my copy (in your fake rant about how lame other countries are you neglected to mention that even when they do get the dvd the same day, us poor ex-pats can’t buy it because it won’t play at home.)

  • TeamSeth

So, I’ve been huffy and puffy about the ring. But, I went back and found the description in the book. And, big wail and moan, but the way it is in the movie IS (almost) how it is described in the book. To be fair, I remember thinking it was ugly in the book too.

“The face was a long oval, set with slanting rows of glittering round stones. The band was gold – delicate and narrow. The gold made a fragile web around the diamonds.” -Eclipse, Pg. 458

So, I’ll say it, the band isn’t yellow gold (but to be fair it doesn’t distinguish here) and certainly the stones are NOT set in a fragile web of gold, rather a big flat heinous awfulness. Sigh. I cried.

    • Anonymous

“…the band isn’t yellow gold (but to be fair it doesn’t distinguish here) and certainly the stones are NOT set in a fragile web of gold, rather a big flat heinous awfulness”

      See, that’s it.

When reading the book, I imagined something from the Victorian era with filigree and diamonds.

  • littlesis

Thought you might like a different perspective. My mom’s aunt & 2 friends were in town for a visit (ages at least 60). We got our Eclipse dvd Saturday & 9 of us including them and my 2 brother-in-laws got together & watched it. The newbies who knew zilch about twilight (5 of em ) saw things totally different. In Eclipse they boiled it down to young shapeshifters vs old vamps. Jacob was a puppy totally out of his league with Bella & was doomed to lose. Edward & Bella ending up together was a given, Jacob’s bedroom scene was the best & was gripping and so sad. So we went for broke, showed em New Moon. Their review was: Jacob was normal till he woke up a wolf. He was a wolf because of vampires, no wonder he hates them. Bella would have been dead and buried if it weren’t for Jacob. Now she has to deal with a best friend, who saved her life, who has good reason to hate vamps. She should have taken off with Edward saving all of them a lot of pain. In a nutshell: 5/5: their view was Bella & Edward together; liked & found most interesting, Charlie, Rosalie, Victoria, Jacob. Enjoyed both NM and Eclipse and would be willing to see the next one to find out what happens to Jacob. said a director and actors can only do so much based on the material they’re given.I interpreted that as sorta cheesy, but enjoyable. They accepted everything, no complaints, but definitely had favorites much different then mine & my sisters.

  • http://twitter.com/chyygirl2000 sandra

I watched the special features 1st then Fast forward or jump to Edward and say all the Edward scences (best feature ever), later I fell asleep during the Rob/Krisen commentary…I’m not really interested in watching the DVD again.

  • Anonymous

I don’t own any of the movies (yet) and I haven’t watched any of them with the commentary….unless you count Rifftrax. I’ve been very blasé about all the DVD releases, so even though I really enjoyed Eclipse, but only saw it twice, I’m kinda really mostly looking forward to watching it purely for the LTT reference. #Fanfail?
BUT, every time I see the commercial for it and hear the Sia song, (because I still haven’t bought the soundtrack – definite #fanfail) my pulse races.

  • Anonymous

I watched Eclipse on Saturday night with my Twi BFF’s, and it was so much fun! I mean, Eclipse has it’s moments, well, moment. (RYLIE!) But watching with with your best gal pals that get the normal-ness of our collective addiction? Total win. I’m not sure we heard one word of Eclipse because right from the very first scene with KStew’s awful wig, we were commenting on everything. Sample:

Carlyle: “Jacob, you need more Hair gel. Do you see my perfect hair helmet? The height I have achieved? If you want Bella, you need to just go for it. Don’t hold back.”
Jacob: “I’ve tried the DEP. AND the LA. What more can I do here Dr.?”
Carlyle: “I think I can help. You need Prescription strength Gel.”
Bella: “No! Jake, I won’t let you.”
Jacob: “I wasn’t asking permission Bella.”

It was pretty much Science Fiction Theater 2000- Eclipse Version.
It’s not Twilight. The wigs and ring suck. Rylie Dies. Enjoying the normal-ness with friends….. Priceless.

    • Anonymous

“Do you see my perfect hair helmet? The height I have achieved?”
It does seem as if the wigs get heightened as the movies proceed, maybe by BD everyones hair will be about 10 feet high. I’m sure Summit can manage it – they are the experts at screwing things up. Make it work!

      • Anonymous

The poor 9 year old girl who is playing Renesme, doomed to wear a wig taller than her. Wig fail Summit!

Agh! Amazon FAIL didn’t deliver my DVD on Sat. So I watched DVR’ed Vampire Diaries… nope, no gold brocade bedding in that house, but a slinky robe worn by Rose (ALice 2.0).
Anywho, after that I watched Twilight. I hadn’t watched it in like 10 months. I forgot I liked Bella. I miss the “high school-i-ness” of Twilight. I don’t recall Eclipse having the slightest high school feel, even with a graduation.
…and my popcorn was too salty too, UC!
