The Twi Lifestyle

Dear Twilight,

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I like where you & I are at (nice Philly slang for you there). We’re doing good- you & me. You have your life & I have mine. Yet we still love each other.

For example: I can go away for a few days to see some family in Florida, schedule a few letters in advance and everything is fine! You still go on, LTT runs fine & I return to a nice surprise I never saw before: A post on BreakingDawnMovie.org that includes one of those “You  Might like this” posts from SEPTEMBER of Jamie Cambell Brower NAKED:

How YOU doing?

And so you & I pick up where we left off. I check out some favorite Twilight sites to see what I missed. Without a doubt someone emailed us something funny I didn’t catch over the weekend away or posted something to our Facebook account (Click that and become a fan- do it now!)

Hosting Twilight Virgin week two weeks back & reading all the amazing stories that were submitted over that time really reminded me of my virginity loss and starting LTT as a result- and mostly how little sleep I got during those first few weeks/days/years (actually). First I couldn’t put down the Twilight books and it was all I could think about until I got my hands on the next book (thank GOD I found the saga the week Breaking Dawn came out- I don’t know what I would have done had I had to wait years between books) and then I had to wait days (or, if I’m honest, hours) between Twilight movie sittings. And then there was all the time I spent watching Rob Pattinson interviews and Vanity Fair behind-the-scenes videos and filling my hard-drive with his pictures… It’s no wonder I look back at pictures during that time in life & think I look thinner- I was! I had no time to eat!

And when LTT started, life as I knew it was over! There went time for real-life friends and Mr. Choice and cleaning. And remember when I posted about how I had that task to do at work that was 32 weeks over due? At the beginning of this year I just deleted it, called 2009 & 2010 lost years & started over at 2011. (And if you’re wondering, when I looked yesterday morning the same task was 5 weeks overdue. Sigh…) I stopped working for like a year and 1/2! (Kinda) AND I slept much, much less. I think we coined that phenomenon: Unmotivated by Twilight

Remember this?

You know when you first get a crush & he/she is all you think about? You can’t eat because of the butterflies. You doodle like you’re a 12 year old (even as an adult!) You imagine your future- all the things you could be! Has it been so long since you’ve had a crush that you forget what it’s like? I was reminded when perusing my Facebook wall & a family friend (who is 13) seems to have a new crush. Here are a few things she’s said (publically) in the last few days:

UGH. Stupid butterflies. Stupid crush. Stupid boys. Stupid love!!

♥ **”And I hate how much I love you, boy.
I can’t stand how much I need you.”** ♥

So I’m pretty much over this whole crush thing. These butterflies are annoying, I can’t concentrate on anything, my grades are gonna go down hill if he doesn’t get real ugly, real fast and if I think about his smile one more time I’m gonna blow something up! Ugh why does he have to be so loveable!!??

♥ “My heart stops when you look at me,” ♥

Pros and cons of this crush: Con: he’s a jerk sometimes. He’s a player. He’s annoying. He’s rude. He’s out of his mind and he gives me a head ache whenever I talk to him. Pro: I like him! < \3 Hmm…Not using very good logic right now….Stupid boys. They mess with my head!

Remember that NOW? It was so fun! Annoying! Frustrating! Worth it! Not worth it! Rewarding! Distracting! Worth it in the end! Especially when he/she likes you back!

That’s how I feel about this whole Twilight thing! You’ve been SO fun! (I made Jackson laugh) You’ve been SO annoying! (Can’t Krisbians find someone else to Twitter hate!?) You’ve frustrated the HELL out of me! (Remember when our blog got hacked?) But it’s been WORTH it! (Moon & I are the bestest buds as a result!) And sometimes (like when Mr. Choice gets mad because we haven’t talked in 3 days) NOT Worth it! It’s REWARDING (We leg hitched Stephenie Meyer- enough said!) and Distracting! (Didn’t work from 2009-2010!) It’s Worth it in the End (Look through my phone or all the Friends Named things like “Brooke/Real Name” or “Allison/Twifans.com” and “Jen/Met in LA!” ) Because I think you like me back, Twilight! And while we’re past the initial crush stage, thankfully, I like where we are now! We’re at a manageable place where I enjoy writing about what I want; I like to read fun, funny, hilarious (and sometimes disturbing) things about you!

We’ve matured passed the initial crush. We’ve gotten through those tough days when we started to see things we didn’t like about each other. We’ve pushed through & discovered how to have fun again, and now we’ve entered the stability stage. We’re like an old married couple, you & me, Twilight! And I feel very, very comfortable- in a good way. Let’s keep it this way!

Also, remember this motivational Photo? (Another thing I only did in the beginning: Fan Fic!)

Love your life partner,

UnintendedChoice

Where are you in your relationship with Twi? Still in the gooey, butterfly-filled beginning? Somewhere around the rocky middle? Have you settled into a nice relationship routine like I have? Don’t tell me you’re in the “We’ve been together too long & it’s getting dull” crisis!

Loved this post. Where am I? I am ok with my twilight relationship, Rob still gives me bvutterflys. My husband has just given up on me

Oh, and what the HELL is Jamie doing – nobody makes that pose while nakey on a boat especially because people take photos. Not OK

I’m sorry. What was the question? That pic of Rob w/ his thumb in his mouth gave me delicious shivers and I have lost the ability to think…

amen! I was just wondering if I could print it out and put it in my office – the answer is clearly no, but still thinking…

I’m in the nice, comfortable routine place. For example, I leave for the airport in a few hours and have a few things yet to do before I take off for a few days in NYC, but I still made time to check LTT. I won’t really think about Twilight much while I’m gone (probably occasionally, but not obsessively) and won’t feel too bad about missing Friday’s post on LTT or whatever else is going on in the fandom (I’ll be too busy interacting with the Real People In My Life), but will look forward to catching up on Monday when I’m home and getting back to the routine of life.

    That’s where I am – it’s a nice place to be!

Have a great trip. Think maybe you’d be willing to share some NYC info w/ me when you get back? It’s for my fic.

JCB. I’ve never really paid attention to him, so thought I’d try to get a sense of him through his twitter feed (because, like, how else do you get a sense of anyone?)

      Some samples:

-“Bugger me this place is glam. Feeling underdressed. Repping the ripped skinny jeans for ya france. ”
-“Was just at 30 Rock for an interview. I went madly looking for Tina Fey. She wasn’t there. I cried. I’ll find you one day Fey”
-Just drove past a poster of my face on times square. Scary shit.
-Emotional year. Completed my role as a camp angry vampire and just picture wrapped season 1 of Camelot. All kingly duties done.
-“Are eggs dairy?” “When was the last time you saw a cow shit out an egg? Eh?”
-Vajazzle. Gonna go get it done with ma boy george. Expect pictures.
-My bottom will be on telly tonight in America. Starz channel at sometime. Check listings for further info about cheeks
-It was I @danielcudmore I fancied a snuggle and needed your loving arms around me.

He was the one who caused the ruckus when he said in an interview (before New Moon came out) that there was a nude scene with the all the Volturi in a hot tub. How could you not love this kid!

      • http://www.talksupe.wordpress.com snowwhitedrifted

Have you watched “Camelot”? JCB’s a good a Arthur, and one hell of a tweeter. I love when celebs are funny and not just tweeting about their “causes”. Somerhalder I mean you.

@sammyhuntington (Josh on SyFY’s BEing HUman) is a good follow too.

        • http://www.examiner.com/twilight-in-national/breaking-dawn-fan-art-picture-2 natteringyeahrobber

I don’t have Starz, so cannot see Camelot. But, it is in my Netflix queue as of now. I love Eva Green, so I’m guessing I’ll like Camelot. Plus I guess there is more of JCB’s bum to be seen. He must love to expose.

I haven’t see the US version of BH, but will check out sammyhuntington. God knows I need more Twitter feeds to peek at on my bus rides home! :)

OK, so checked it out on the way home. Convo there about penis with opposable thumb & possibilities that might occur as a result…OK, he’s on my “to read” list now.

I’m 2 posts behind on LTT!! I’m going to go read them right now, though!
Also, I didn’t receive my email updates for the past 3 posts. Anyone else having that problem?

    • nocoolname

      yep, same problem

    • Anonymous

      yes

    • Anonymous

Yes, not getting email updates. Do you think it’s the same hacker ring that leaked the BD pictures? They HATE Twilight! JaneTrigs?

    • Anonymous

Yeah me too. I emailed Moon and UC. Sounds like it has something to do with the fact that the Posts are supposed to go up at 8:00 am Eastern Time, but since Daylight Savings, they’ve been going up at 9:00 eastern and that misses the cut-off for the emails…. something like that (Sorry Moon/UC if I totally messed up the explanation).

Anyway, it sounds like they’re trying to figure out why/how to fix. :D

    • MariaCecilia

I am just deliriously happy because for the first time since LTT changed into the new version this stupid page recognizes me, and I don’t have to type in my name and e-mailaddress for every single comment I write!! Yay! I kiss the sweet ground!

I guess the best way to analyze my Twi-crush is to compare it to my Rob obsession. My Rob crush is clearly unrequited. I give and give and get pretty much nothing in return (I’m having a Jacob moment, please excuse). My Rob “relationship” is pointless, dysfunctional and maybe even a tad toxic. Still, I cannot stop, even though some mornings I wake up and think “I will not go to LTR, I’m over Rob.” I always do, though. He’s too bloody hot.

My Twi-crush is a little less one sided. I mean, I give a little and it gives back. I can take it with me to work or on trips, there’s plenty of FF out there should I get bored, and it’s always here for me whereas Rob never is. It doesn’t make me feel mental (whereas Rob does).

    To simplify:
Rob crush = I am Jacob, he is Bella. Unrequited, but I can’t stop loving him.
Twi crush = I am Bella and Twi is Mike Newton. Steady, faithful, not sexy, but it shows up when I need it. A lot to be said for showing up.

    • JenJadeEyes

NYR – Okay, you know your John Hughes movies, suggesting you’re near my age, you think the way I think (except I think you have an abnormal obsession with C&B), and you read fanfic. Please send me an e-mail immediately so we can see if we were separated at birth. I’m on fanfiction.net under the same name.

    • MariaCecilia

I like your analogy, and I agree with you up to a point (Gah! Can Rob-crushing be more annoying sometimes, yet so irresistible?!) – but I beg to differ: Twi is NOT Mike Newton, because Twi is sexy. I prefer to think of Twi as Alice: a true friend in need, if a little bit too giddy at times.

      • http://www.examiner.com/twilight-in-national/breaking-dawn-fan-art-picture-2 natteringyeahrobber

I don’t necessarily find Twilight “sexy” (not in the same way as True Blood anyhow). Not unattractive, though not sexy. Although Rob certainly has made it more sexy, especially when he thrusts with all his might and grabs headboards with both hands. Mike (for me) is the equivalent to Twilight – a good shoulder to cry on & the comfort of the familiar. I can totally see how Twi could be Alice, though. She’s also a good friend. I would want to talk Twilight with Alice. Mike would listen patiently, but I think he’d just say “uh-huh” a lot and gloss over instead of wanting to talk about vampire sperm longevity.

    • Anonymous

I totes agree Nat. My Twi crush is at a great place. Easy to come and go and not feel like I’m missing something. It’s fun to be in the Twi world but I don’t need to be there all of the time. My Robsession is another monster all together! But at this point in my life I’m really okay with that :)

I live in fear of the “it’s getting dull” phase. How awful! What will my brain do with all that extra time? What will my ladyparts fantasize about? (Edward/Bella…Edward alone….ooooHHH Edward/Jasper!)

    • Anonymous

It’s weird. I’m living mostly in reality now. It’s a strange, not altogether pleasant place most of the time. I think the excitement will re-ignite as we approach the BD part 1 release.

Think of it as a really good marriage. It will never get dull. There will be a crises from time to time, having kids, having self-doubts, getting fed up with cleaning, having a slump – but then suddenly you will find yourself falling in love all over again, there will be sparks igniting and you just can’t get enough of each other. Have faith. Reality will never triumph over the Twi-universe. Reality doesn’t have an Edward. HAH!

      • Anonymous

Agreed. Twi has been there as my go-to in sickness and in health. Especially sickness, because nothing makes the flu go away like 3 days of Twi marathons on my laptop. Okay maybe the flu just goes away in three days, but it makes the flu bearable. Except for the Slo Mo Vampires in NM. I have to close my eyes for that part. Slo Mo Vampires is the “leaving the cap off the toothpaste” of my Twi-marriage.

    • Latersbaby

Although I didn’t get to the ‘it’s getting dull’ phase, when I first exhaled from my initial high, I started with fanfic. It is a dangerous rabbit hole. Will I ever crawl out… I hope so.

      • MariaCecilia

Oh, you could do worse: be hooked on heroin, or killing small animals or eating lard or..well, my point being fanfiction is a relatively harmless thing to fall into. It just eats up your time. (And brain..muhawhawhaw..)

        • Anonymous

I had no idea about fanfiction until Twilight. I thought it was something weird that Star Trek fans did in the 70s or something. Did you guys know there is fanfic for like, everything ever?! GLEE? Did you know there is Glee Fanfic? I did not. I did not know that. And now I do, because a friend forwarded me some crazy bizarre Kurt/Puck slashfic and now I can’t unsee that shiz.

          • http://www.examiner.com/twilight-in-national/breaking-dawn-fan-art-picture-2 natteringyeahrobber

Does Glee fanfic have musical interludes? Just wondering, because though I don’t love Glee, I do like when they break out in campy singing performances. I would love to see the music done justice in FF. There are also a lot of dirty versions of kids shows on YouTube. Sort of the same as FF, but not quite. I remember trying to find an episode of Caillou on YT for my then 2 year old (no accounting for the taste of 2 year olds, I swear!) and there are all these naughty versions of it online. I had to laugh, but unfortunately, clean versions of these shows have links to dirty versions off to the side. I know that because my kid once clicked on a dirty version while I was in the room folding laundry. One minute it was Caillou talking to that neurotic cat of his, the next his parents are having a key party. OOOF.

          • Anonymous

I don’t know, I only ever read the one about Kurt giving wicked good head to Puck. (yes really) That would have been awesome with a musical interlude.

If you go to fanfiction.net, there are soooo many crazy things people write about. I get the Twilight thing, because: Hi. Obsessed. Obviously. But, like…woah. I just went there to get an example and…woah. I don’t understand.

If I could, I would write a Caillou fanfic that just went:

Then Caillou’s mommy said, “SHUT UP, JUST SHUT UP YOU WHINY STUPID BALD FREAK,” and that was the very last they ever saw of her.

I have to agree with NCN, I am comfortable. I haven’t read the books in months but will never tire of them. It’s been one year (and a few months) since I read the series and watched the movies for the first time. I plan to watch the movies again when no one is around. I am looking forward to BD, but also looking forward to The Host, The Hunger Games (hurry up already) and WFE. I can’t wait for the Twilight Official Illustrated guide coming out in a week or two, but too lazy to check any other sites for Twilight gossip other than LTT – love you guys. It’s hard filling that emptiness after reading the Twilight series. Books like Switched (Trylle Trilogy) will have to do until Stephenie finds the time and inspiration to write again.

    • Anonymous

Oh, and then there’s chapter 26 of Wrenfield Hall – looking for to that too – waiting patiently I assure you.

    • Anonymous

I almost bought the Switched books yesterday on Amazon. Is it sad that my near purchase was almost completely based on the fact that the chick who wrote them is from Minnesota? (Where I live.) Yeah, it’s kind of sad…. or just silly. Or both.

    • Anonymous

I’ve been wondering if I go cold turkey, cut myself off from everything Twi for a few months, then go back and read the books and watch the movies, if I would have the same reaction all over again. Would I fall in love the same way and feel the butterflies? Or would it be trying to force something that’s just not there?
Oh, Twilight, I can’t quit you.

      • ChillinWithCullens

        mmm…cold turkey!!

    • MariaCecilia

I agree with you on all counts! And I plan to watch the movies this upcoming weekend, when I have the house all to myself..apart from all the other stuff I plan to do now that I “finally have the time”. Yes, Wrenfield Hall would be nice, but then again the new version of Jane Eyre is looking interesting too, with Mia Wasikowska-what’s-her-name-again? The good old stories will never bore me…

  • http://www.talksupe.wordpress.com snowwhitedrifted

I’m sorry to say, I think Twi and I have enetered the ratty flannel pajamas and going to the bathroom with the door open stage of our relationship. I blame True Blood for this.

    • MariaCecilia

That’s interesting, because I watch True Blood like I watch Mad Men: interested, sometimes intrigued, and impressed, but with nothing of the emotional investment I have brought to Twilight. I guess it is like love: some guys just do it for you, while others look good but leave you unconvinced.

Twi no longer controls my life. I successfully cut LTR out about a year ago (see my avi for explanation) and LTT is pretty much my only Twi sight. Getting on with my life has been… interesting. I still love it, but not in an obsessive way.

  • Anonymous

That picture of Jamie Campbell Bower just made my already pretty good day into a great one. Although it makes me feel as if he is going to jump up and go, “I’m on a boat!”. Wouldn’t that be an everlasting image…

Anyway, I’d say Twi and I have settled into a nice, if not predictable, relationship. I do have those butterflies every now and then though, especially when I remember that Lee Pace is in BD and I squeal and jump up and down like a little girl. But then I contain myself because I realize I’m in a grocery store and a few people are staring. Oh well, haters just don’t understand.

    • Anonymous

All in favor of us all moving to the same town so the grocery store won’t be quite so embarrassing and also maybe Grocery Store Edward will leave us notes sometimes, say Aye.

      • http://www.examiner.com/twilight-in-national/breaking-dawn-fan-art-picture-2 natteringyeahrobber

Oh, you know I’m in. We should make sure there is a road into town, but no road out (insert maniacal laughter here). Oh, and every street named after a Twi character and of course we need a C&B (I’m not obsessed JJE, just like it. A lot.).

also, and I am not kidding, my 6 year old just drew me a picture. I will need her to go to a school where she will be understood: http://twitpic.com/4hq7ff

          • natteringyeahrobber

I like that there are books in your house about astral projection! We all *DO* need to live in the same city. Also, I think our 6 year olds would get along swimmingly. Here’s a photo of some artwork I captured a few weeks ago. I call it Arthur (of PBS fame) meets Volturi:
            http://i53.tinypic.com/35mkrwy.jpg

          • natteringyeahrobber

p.s. not sure where he got the blood coming out of the eyes thing. I know the blood out of mouth is from some vampire costume he saw last Halloween. I like the heart to the side, very Edward-like. I don’t know what the thing is to the left – I asked him, but he said it was “scribble-scrabble” so there you have it.

          • Anonymous

Nice. It does look like Arthur took the wrong tour group in Volterra. Let’s playdate!

It’s actually from a page-a-day vampire calendar. Apparently they astral project? I fear some of these vampire facts may be made up.

Weird how kids process things. My kid saw the guy with the gory vampire costume (complete with bloody face) months ago…he didn’t seem affected by it then, though I did have to explain what a vampire was in better detail to him (i.e. they bite and drink blood). So there he was, drawing Arthur and then he decided to make it vampire Arthur. I imagine Renesmee will be bringing home similar artwork from school. Maybe worse.
Re: astral projection. I googled it. Very common. Per some website: “It is important to realize that not only psi-vamps are on the astral plane. There are entities that you’ve probably never even heard of out there that live only on the astral plane. They think that psi-vamps are delicious and nutrious .” Just so you know!

          • Anonymous

I have no idea what a psi-vamp is. Maybe it’s in one of the Unofficial Guides? o.O

For kid friendly vampire information, we have this book: http://www.bookcloseouts.com/Store/Details/Ickstory-History-Of-Vampires-And-Other-Real-Blood-Drinkers-All-Aboard-Reading-Level-3/_/R-9780448450322B

She loves it. Really. She picked it out herself and made my mother buy it for her. Ahh, my poor mother. Now she has two weird kids to worry about.

          • natteringyeahrobber

“True story of Vlad the Impaler” – ok, but is it graphic? He’s been having nightmares about puppets in his room lately, so I’m a little worried that puppet nightmares will turn into vampire nightmares. Or worse, vampire puppets (reminds me of that scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall). The other night he ran into our room at 3 a.m. screaming about puppets under his bed. I totally made DH go in there – you think I want to deal with puppets? No way. Vampires I can handle, but puppets, no way.

          • Anonymous

In our Twi Paradise, there will be no puppets. Or clowns.

The book is “kid graphic”, so, I guess you’d have to judge. There’s stuff about Countess Bathory, too.

Audrey is an unusual kid; Mr. Slut plays Plants vs. Zombies and Minecraft with her, and the only thing that freaks her out are the zombies on Minecraft, so he has to turn the monsters off. She’s a tough cookie (or mentally unbalanced. Only time will tell).

Oh, you know I’m in. We should make sure there is a road into town, but no road out (insert maniacal laughter here). Oh, and every street named after a Twi character and of course we need a C&B (I’m not obsessed JJE, just like it. A lot.).

Oh, my relationship with Twilight is much like my IRL relationship: getting old and stable, but still with lots of butterflies, tenderness, good sex and a shared weird sense of humour that keeps me cracking up every day… Because, let’s face it, if we and our close ones didn’t have a sense of humour, we would never have pulled this Twi-thing off this long without divorce, disgrace and unemployment following!

I’m definitely in the nice settled relationship stage with my Twilight love. I check up on my twilight blogs everyday (always hoping for news), and I still discuss it with my friends every once in a while (I think they get annoyed with me a little for still bringing it up), and I still meet new Twi people! I was chatting with a relatively new friend today, and I discovered that she’s a Twifan too! I’m glad that we got some news (a.k.a. The Leak), but I wish that the movie was coming out sooner… why does it have to be November? Why?!? I’ll just have to reread the books for the billionth time… :D

I was reading “The Office” this week. So right now I guess I’m in the “Yes Master” and “Oh the erotic spanking you say?” stage.

Ah yes, the Let’s Spice It Up stage! So very fun. I will trade you The Office for Our Lives Unbound. Subward? Yes, thank you.

      • JustGoWithIt

I will have to look into that.

Through this whole post, I felt overcome-saying things like,”amen!”,
“you tell it like it is, sister!”, “ain’t that the truth?” –a religious recall of all the ways we’ve come to know the Twilight Universe.
    Normal?

Late to the comment party. If I had commented on time yesterday morning, I would have made some joke about the fact that Twilight and I are leisurely enjoying a “happily ever after” in a magical cottage in a forest with our offspring mutant child, after a trying relationship that was initially filled with lust and fascination, evolved into a trying time that included me being dumped on the forest floor while it jetted off to Brazil, then we had a teary re-uniting in Europe, then fought some vampires (read:Robsten/Nonsten crazies) and finally married, had a crazy-hot honeymoon in South America, our sex tape was leaked resulting in many embarrassing Tweets, and finally we are enjoying growing old – uh, I mean, growing beautiful and immortal – together.

But that would just be an obvious joke. And untrue.

In a nutshell, Twilight and I actually haven’t seen each other much lately. I’ve been seeing a lot of other books (does that make me a book slut)? This post reminds me of the fact that I should probably catch up with it tonight….in bed.

    Love this post, love you.

PS when did I start loving everything?

  • Renie

Lust, at first now a more mature affair with things Twilight. I read Fan Fiction (selectively), check Robsessed once and awhile, and read books associated with Twilight books and movies: Twi-saga-too many times, Pride and Preduice, Water for Elephants, once when it first came out and once recently. Bel Ami, and Cosmopolis. I bought and read a book about the Preraphaelites when Chris Weitz mentioned it in relationship to filming New Moon. I read magazines with interviews with Kristen or Rob. So I feel I’m broadening my literary horizons by my relationship with things Twilight. Do you think I could earn another degree? Let’s say a BA in Twi-lit, a BAT?

So I will admit I have been a bit busy and just got caught up (see that I am writing a week late) OH my gosh I love this post!! It is like you were in my brain lol!! I did not start Twilight till Breaking dawn was just coming out either.. I would not have been able to wait I have NO patience…I read them in about a month( I have kids or it would have been a week) ahhh the good old days of staying up until 3 in the morning and then getting up at 7 to take my kids to school…. I have been following you guys for a year now!!! It has been so fun and I am in that middle stage of the relationship. Oh how it still excites me but now I can take a few days off without going crazy!!!
