Eclipse Soundtrack

Postby Lindelle » Thu Jul 01, 2010 7:29 pm

EDIT: Eclipse Spoilers of course!

So since I went whole-hog virgin for Eclipse (now that is a weird phrase) I'm only now listening to the soundtrack. Thought it would be fun to discuss, I know some of us love music, so why not?

First off, I'm trying to put together a list of where things are in the movie. Help?

1. Eclipse (All Yours), Metric -- End credits
2. Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever), MUSE
3. Ours, The Bravery -- Graduation party (or was it the Muse song? :?: )
4. Heavy In Your Arms, Florence And The Machine -- End credits
5. My Love, Sia -- Leghitch/Proposal
6. Atlas, Fanfarlo
7. Chop And Change, The Black Keys -- Opening scene with Riley
8. Rolling In On A Burning Tire, The Dead Weather -- Riley/Victoria scene
9. Let's Get Lost, Beck and Bat For Lashes -- Bella leaves on the bike with Jake
10. Jonathan Low, Vampire Weekend
11. With You In My Head, UNKLE (Feat. The Black Angels)
12. A Million Miles An Hour, Eastern Conference Champions
13. Life On Earth, Band Of Horses
14. What Part Of Forever, Cee Lo Green
15. Jacob's Theme, Howard Shore
16. The Line, Battles
17. How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep, Bombay Bicycle Club

Okay wow, I have a lot to figure out still. Anyone got any more? R4L, you send me a link to an article with more but I can't find that now :(

Thoughts on the soundtrack. Remember I've only listened to it about twice, though some songs I've had on repeat ... first off I think a lot of songs sound very similar. Guy singing over techno-ish guitars. It'll probably take me a bit to distinguish between them. My far and away favorites right now are Chop&Change and Heavy in Your Arms. I especially like how C&C is played during the opening scene cause the lyrics fit Victoria really well. Ostensibly the song is about some girl who takes to stealing cars and running a chop shop, but I think this is a pretty good metaphor for V -- only she's stealing and changing people instead of cars. Very cool. Why wasn't Heavy used during the Jake carrying Bella scene? maybe they thought that was too smack you over the head obvious? I was kind of bummed it was relegated to the credits, though the one good thing is you get to hear more of it then.
There really weren't any long scene-synced songs this time (like with Possibility and Hearing Damage in NM.) The soundtrack was much more background I thought. Like? Dislike?
If any of you are familiar with some of the bands here, especially the more unknown small ones, care to rec some other songs of theirs?

Here's the article http://www.examiner.com/x-4908-Twilight ... rack-songs

The MUSE song played right after the Bravery song during the graduation party.

I really love the soundtrack. The Sia song I don't care for but hearing it in the scene I really enjoyed it. the MUSE song and the Cee-Lo song are my favorites :)

Thanks R4L!
Here's what the article says:

Top five best-placed 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' soundtrack songs

So far, the Twilight series' films have been blessed with great soundtracks which have been, in at least a few major instances, utilized well in the movies. For instance, with Twilight, there couldn't have been better pieces than Muse's "Supermassive Black Hole," Blue Foundation's "Eyes on Fire," or Robert Pattinson's "Let Me Sign" for the scenes which they accompanied. Similarly, with The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Thom Yorke's "Hearing Damage" was irreplaceable, and Lykke Li's "Possibility" framed the moment quite well.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's use of the soundtrack, too, had some brilliant moments - some which even merited a change of heart about the songs themselves - and here are my top five:

5. Sia - "My Love": This song accompanied the . . . well . . . steamiest scene in the film - one which has been notoriously referred to as the "leg hitch" sequence. What better to showcase the angst-ridden romance of Bella and Edward than a song completely comprised of longing?

4. The Dead Weather - "Rolling in on a Burning Tire": Riley and Victoria were an interesting couple to watch on-screen. Their dark, twisted relationship matched up well with The Dead Weather's deep melody here, and the song really helped to supplement the lack of tenderness from at least one party's perspective in the exchange.

3. The Black Keys - "Chop and Change": This song was the very first one used in the film, accompanying the watery studio logo and introduction to Eclipse. It set the tone of the first scene quite nicely as we find Riley exiting the bar and meeting his fate on the streets of Seattle. It was a nice beat to compliment the mood of the moment.

2. Unkle - "With You in My Head (feat. The Black Ghosts)": Alone, this song might seem a bit strange in the context of the soundtrack, but matched up with its relevant sequence (the Cullens' fight training scene), it is perfect. The facial expressions of the Cullens in these moments align masterfully with the music, and it also serves as a great tempo lift from some of the more somber surrounding scenes in the film.

1. METRIC - "Eclipse (All Yours)"/Howard Shore - "Wedding Plans": Perhaps something else would've worked here, I don't know. I do know that when the melody of Howard Shore's song here synced up with Bella and Edward's discussion of the future and eachother in the meadow, it seemed as if it was the only song that could ever feel right at that moment. The fact that it carried into METRIC's song in the credits to end Eclipse on such a high note only strengthened that perception. Having such a sweet and lyrically appropriate song placed in the end was crucial to walking out of Eclipse with a huge smile, a desire to see the film again, and high anticipation for what is to come next with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

I'm still super disappointed Heavy In your Arms wasn't really in the movie. =( But overall I thought this sound track was really appropriate and subtle. New Moon felt like they made the soundtrack and shoved the songs into the movie but Eclipse feels like they chose the songs for the movie first.

Ok, so I'm not gonna lie, I honestly didn't notice most of the music in the film (except when J9 drunkenly loud whispered "aw, bella's lullaby" when bella shows up for sleep over, when it was actually "clair de lune" ). Which could be good or bad. I've only seen the movie once and I was too busy staring at Rob's hand, jaw, and lash porn to catch the music. I'll definitely be paying more attention when I see the movie again next week....

I was really hoping for an epic pairing of music and action like the Thom Yorke "Hearing Damage" scene in NM, but that might have been asking for a lot. :D

And this is totally OT but HOLY SHIT! My favorite, favorite band (and awesome dudes) Codeseven JUST announced today that they are reuniting after a 5 year hiatus. I highly, highly recommend them (and will probably nag you all into going to see them play). You can check out their music on www.myspace.com/codeseven if so inclined. However, only their 2 most recent albums were done in a style that I like (they switched styles halfway through their career), so you may hear some weird crap mixed in with the good on their myspace. I'm not sure what they have up there these days.

I disagreed with this. I knew the song was going to be in that spot (Thanks R4L! :D ) but it felt funny to me. When I read that scene is was sooo desperate but also frantic. The song felt more "make love" music than "I'm going to trick my bf into having sex with me" music. But I didn't mind it for the proposal- it fit there.

I'm really liking the Bravery song, "Ours." I got to pay more attention next time to catch this one in the grad scene.

I'm kinda sorta really pissed about the placement of Sia. I would have much rather heard Let's Get Lost there. If you think about the lyrics they just FIT. She wants him to try "just for tonight". “Touch me I’m cold” Duh that’s Edward. I don’t think it fits with where they put it, which I have to disagree with above. I think it was when she was walking out of her house to get in her truck to go see Jake. I miss you girls. I see you on Twitter but never get to come to the flat. And when I do, I have to compose my message in Word and paste it into the box because for some reason my flat box is all messed up and I can’t see what I’m typing and it goes like one letter at a time. I’ve explained it to Jodie before. I don’t know if it’s my laptop or what. All other sites are high speed but the Flat. 

Found an almost complete list!

1. Metric “Eclipse (All Yours)”Instrumental played in last meadow scene as well as various other points in the film at various speeds. Regular version in credits.

2. Muse “Neutron Star Collision ( Love is Forever)” 2nd song played during graduation party at Cullen's house.

3. The Bravery “Ours” - 1st song played during graduation party at Cullen's house.

4. Florence + The Machine “Heavy in your Arms” - Credits. Sadly. I think this song is a fan favourite and we all had high expectations for it's placement. Then again, a song gets more playtime in credits.

5. Sia “My Love” Leg Hitch Lovin' rawr! At the Cullen house in Edward's new bed. This is when Bella wants to have sex and they make-out then Edward rejects her telling her he is old fashioned.

6. Fan Farlo “Atlas” Plays briefly in Edwards car when he drives Bella to drop her off with Jacob.

7. The Black Keys “Chop and Change”This is in the opening when Riley leaves the bar and the shadow version of Victoria bites and changes him.

8. The Dead Weather “Rolling in on a Burning Tire” Victoria and Riley under the bridge (well it just looks like a bad part of town)

9. Beck and Bat for Lashes ” Let’s Get Lost” - Bella reading the letter from Jacob and going to her truck only to find Edward has made it so she can't go anywhere.

10. Vampire Weekend “Jonathon Low” - Edward drops Bella off to go hang with Jacob and they go to Sam & Emily's place.

11. Unkle “With You in My Head (featuring The Black Angels)”Fight training with the Cullen's and the wolves.

12. Eastern Conference Champions ” A Million Miles an Hour” In the school parking lot when Jacob is on his motorbike as Edward and Bella arrive.

13. Band of Horses ” Life on Earth”- Bella & Edward in Bella's bed discussing "You'll always be my Bella"

14. Cee Lo Green “What Part of Forever” – [/color]Credits.

15. Howard Shore “Jacob’s Theme”- When Jacob tells Bella "Choose Me" also when they kiss before battle and finally when he is injured at the end in bed and she visits him.

Also Bonus Tracks:

"The Line" by Battles - I don't know when

"How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep" by Bombay Bicycle Club - During Cafeteria Scene?

"Clair de Lune" - When Bella arrives at Edward's house before the leg hitch / bedroom scene. Also when Edward gives her the diamond heart to add to her bracelet.

Okay girls, I'm bringing my investigative findings to the table. You all would have laughed to see me shining my cell phone on the scrap of paper I was taking notes on  Thank goodness no one was near me!

1. Eclipse (All Yours), Metric -- End meadow scene into credits
2. Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever), MUSE -- Graduation party song #2
3. Ours, The Bravery -- Graduation party song #1
4. Heavy In Your Arms, Florence And The Machine -- 2nd credits song
5. My Love, Sia -- Leghitch/Proposal
6. Atlas, Fanfarlo --
7. Chop And Change, The Black Keys -- Opening scene with Riley
8. Rolling In On A Burning Tire, The Dead Weather -- Riley/Victoria scene in Seattle, when they kiss
9. Let's Get Lost, Beck and Bat For Lashes -- Bella calls Jake and reads his note
10. Jonathan Low, Vampire Weekend -- Bella and Jake riding off on the bike
11. With You In My Head, UNKLE (Feat. The Black Angels) -- Cullen's fight training
12. A Million Miles An Hour, Eastern Conference Champions -- When Jacob shows up at school, music only
13. Life On Earth, Band Of Horses -- When Bella and Edward on her bed talking about her change.
14. What Part Of Forever, Cee Lo Green -- 3rd credits song
15. Jacob's Theme, Howard Shore --
16. The Line, Battles --
17. How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep, Bombay Bicycle Club --

There are 3 songs I still haven't figured out, Atlas, The Line, and So Much Sleep :? They must all be instrumental only. There's a music-only song playing in the cafeteria song that is either Atlas or Sleep. The only other times I heard music were 3 second clips on car radios that were loud and pretty much undecipherable.

So that's my report!

I am SO in love with the soundtrack!
New Moon's was average, apart from a few faves (Roslyn, Possibility) and Twi's was just pure WIN.
This one is pretty damn close to the quality of the Twilight soundtrack for me.
Faves are, of course, Sia, Florence and also love, love, LOVING Beck & Bat For Lashes and Vampire Weekend. Oh an the Black Keys. So awesome!
And you chicas are legendary for trying to figure out all the placements!
I was actually just trying to figure this ot myself the other day.
