Last weekend central Virginia shut down for a snow storm and none of my RL friends could make it out to visit/celebrate for my birthday. Luckily my husband is fantastic and did his best to make it special anyway. Then we went out for my actual birthday and things were crazy busy at work. Then yesterday I slipped on ice on the front porch of my apartment building and fell down the stairs and am totally busted up now. Luckily nothing broke but I am so achy and bruised. Just walking around hurts. And now Virginia is hit with another big storm and my parents can't make it into try to celebrate my birthday! Ugh.

Today though my boss, who NEVER shuts down the office, actually closed things due to weather so I was able to spend the afternoon in bed relaxing in my PJs watching Twilight on DVD and then 1st Wives Club and then Steel Magnolias. Deeeeelightful!

Hopefully the weather can clear up since I am supposed to go out of town with the hubs next weekend. Ok, venting is over. Have loved catching up on posts tonight. Let me just say you all rock. All the inspiration humor, and really just everything helps me ignore the aches and pains at least for a bit. THANKS!!!!

Oh noes! Falling down sucksssss. I'm glad you got to stay in and watch fun movies yesterday! Steel Magnolias is always great. As is Twilight. ;)

Happy birthday week!

Ugh. I'm never drinking again. That's a lie. One of my friends finally turned 21 yesterday, so we had to go out. Obviously. Annnnd let's just say that the "be presentable by 11 am" points for the day were not met. Not even close.

But yesterday afternoon I saw that one of the movie rental stores in this middle of nowhere town had Little Ashes. So I got it to watch today. Not gonna lie, I'm a little scared to watch. I'm an art major, so I know a little about Dali's crazyness...Have you all seen it? Is it good?

Happy weekend!

Mandaliz, I was so glad to hear that nothing broke when you made earth contact - ice is not nice. As for the snowed out birthday celebrating - ugh. I had to drive the Washington Beltway and 95 after the "dusting" last weekend. Some scary shit that was. Took me 3x my norm to make it home. Now I'm sitting here looking out the window at 30+ inches of Maryland snow and it's gorgeous but makes me long to join Seattle Lisa for a bike ride. Not happening anytime soon.

SL - I'd be happy to give a verbal d=beat down to a few *^&^% drivers for ya. I'm wayyyyyy too old to put up with that crap anymore. You just want to tell them to take a deep one and chillax!!

Even though exercise should be easy tomorrow (we've still got plenty of snow that needs shoveling) I've been having a rough time trying to get myself motivated and moving. Thought maybe someone here could give me a kick in the pants to get restarted. My points look miserable cuz I forgot to post them one week, but now I'm looking to get back on track. First things first - I've got to straighten up my hours of sleep. Sleeping from 4a-10a with an afternoon power nap has got to stop. I love being up by myself after hubby has gone to bed and I don't need to be up early most mornings. I can get my dose of Rob without being detected - my family doesn't get it and would think the old lady has gone of the edge. OK, I have gone over and I like it here, but I can't stand those funny looks and words like "you're losing it mom" coming from my daughter who JUST DOESN'T GET IT AT ALL. Even though my work often involves crazy, long through-the-night hours and I suppose it's good that I can pull an all-nighter when needed, it's still just a bad habit that I know I should break.

Any ideas/words of wisdom? Anybody else out there a night person??

Well, guess I'll head to bed now - a bit earlier than last night.

I've been busting my brains this whole week trying to find something fun for this week's wild card and last night it finally dawned on me.

My friends and I used to skip school quite a lot (especially in my senior year) and there was this tradition that we almost never went to the first class of the day (which began at 7.30), but met in a shaggy cafe/bar instead. We normally just had coffee, but sometimes we decided to make things a bit more interesting and have a couple of beers instead. And so a boring ordinary day would transform into pure fun. It was also a recipe for disaster sometimes, but that just added to my "grandma's stories about her rebellious teen years"-folder.

So I gathered half "the gang" (only 3 people out of 6 live here in Vienna :( ) and went for a beer first thing in the morning. We talked and reminisced and I've come to the conclusion that beer really does have a special flavor to it at 8 a.m. and on an empty stomach. Oh, how I've missed getting tipsy in the morning! ... good times...

Here's my semi-review of Little Ashes. I'm not good a reviewing movies; I tend be easily amused and will watch mainly anything. But I actually thought LA was good. My hungover brain wasn't really up to handling the accents though, so I had to watch with the subtitles on. But overall, I thought it was a good movie. Rob played a good Dali. I was a little nervous about seeing my British husband all kissy with a dude, but it wasn't that awkward. So I hope your Podunk Video gets it so you can watch!

I'm totally a night person as well. I know I should go to bed at a decent time, but I get too distracted by other things that I end up staying awake longer than necessary. And there have been plenty of times when I've had to pull all-nighters as well trying to finish art projects and other homework. I'm just waiting for that time of the semester to come, cause I know it will be here soon....

Night people unite! I'm usually on the 4a-10a sleep schedule too, though sometimes I slip to the ol 6a-noon timeslot. I figure as long as I'm functioning when I need to be, who cares. I always do my work at night unless it requires a conference call or client web meeting, and I'll usually pull all nighters for those too. I

f you want to try getting back to "normal people sleep" don't do it suddenly. My doctor had me start cutting by an hour a week. If my norm was 4-10 then for the first week i did that, then the next week i 3-10. once i got used to that and actually was asleep by 3am it moved to 2am. and so forth. I kept the 10am wake up call but once i really got used to everything I pulled it back to 9a. It actually worked (well until a trip to new orleans that kept me on bourbon st. until 6a everynight) and was a lot better than popping pills (though i do occassionally take ambien when i've been up a couple days).

woot woot! I thought my bum knee would slow me down, but it didn't. Goal met for the day- 23 miles on my bike in the rain. Total miles for this week- 43, up 3 miles from last week. yay!

Even better, when I got up this morning and put on my yoga pants I could totally tell my belly was smaller. It has been so long since I've lost any "real" weight. I am so very, very happy right now.
