I'm going to need alot of support this week. Tomorrow night starts Passover. Which means I am a dead woman. My love of Matzoh and butter knows no bounds. To try to make it healthier, I bought whole wheat matzoh and spelt matzoh last year. I would have been better off just eating a cardboard box. Everything in moderation, I know but it's just too tempting. I shouldn't buy ant matzoh but I have the rest of the family to think about. I just have to remain in control.

Ooh sorry Amy i did not see this until now.... it has been aaagges since i visited the challenge threads  ... i see that avlc answered you with a pronunciation that is quite close to the original... i don t know if i would have done better.... anyways i would gladly help if you have more questions on french words/pronunciation/"habits".. you can hit me on twitter where i ll be more likely to answer you quikly..or you can email me if necessary

I am peeking back here after months of ups and downs weight wise   ... but i really want to get back on the saddle ... so to speak... the biggest problem i have is re starting exercising more.. i still go to weekly pilates class ( and feel the positive effects of it..) but i have completely given up the more cardio stuff.. i have a bike at home but i cannot get motivated enough to get on it.. what do you do to make time go quickly while exercising ??

Hi lovelies! I've been MIA because of work craziness and now I will continue to be MIA because we're currently on vacation in Canada! Well we aren't actually there yet, although we should be. This trip has had a very rocky start and let me just say Greyhound is a horrible business and I'm ashamed I paid them money. I booked a return bus home with them but will probably suck it up and eat that cost bc of the atrocious service we've received today. (I bust out the $10 dollar words when I get worked up). Trying to stay calm and trust that the remainder of the trip will be lovely. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!

Amy- have you seen the friends episode when phoebe ties to teach Joey how to speak French?? It's hilarious. You should watch the movie Amelie - besides being absolutely adorable, it will get you used to the fast-paced French of Paris ;). I'm so jealous you get to go!!

Muffin- another book reco from me is the hormone cure by dr Sara gottfried (just released tues - love it!) and the dark side of fat loss by Sean croxton (ebook). Both talk about balancing hormones through food rather than supps. Really great stuff IMHO. Whatever you decide, good luck and have faith. I'm currently on a protocol from my functional md and I'm not seeing results yet but I'm trying to stay positive and be patient. It's not easy!! But I believe I'm on the right track finally with my food choices.

Agreed.. I love it too.. whatever the mood i m in what i start this movie, i am always smiling at the end...
Question : is Amelie (much shorter name than the french one -> "The fabulous destiny of Amelie Poulain") dubbed in english or is it available only in subtitles ?

I saw it subtitled in the theater. I believe my DVD has the option of sutitles or dubs, but I couldn't be sure. I know my Pacte des Loupes defaults to the dubbed version, but allows you to switch it to the subtitled one.

You guys inspired me, I took Amelie out of the library to watch during my workouts, will report later!

Amy - hearing you talk about practicing your french reminds me I need to refresh my portuguese in prep for my Brazil trip later this year.

LC - hope vacation improves, your bus experience is awful!! Will check out your book recs, they look intriguing.

BB, Baking Nath, LC glad to see you stop by! Where's Obava?

Quiet day at the office! FINALLY I can kick back and pretend relax! Image
I can definitely tell the difference when I cut out the wheat so that's my goal for this week. And keeping up with exercising of course!

Yeah, I know B&W day is supposedly over, but WHATEVER!

Image

Is anyone really doing this challenge anymore? I know I gave up counting points... Image
Week 5: (Mar 25 - Mar 31) Venture out of our little corner of the flat this week! Check out the trivia, FF, and music sections! You get all 7 points for doing the following things: post at least 3 times in the daily thread and at least 2 times elsewhere on the forum.

That was the easiest one of all. Can you send me the challenges for the rest of the challenge? I'm not going to count points since I haven't been around but I want to try to now continue with it. I was doing a modified one on my own.

BB, the challenges are listed on the first post of this thread, but just in case here's the last one:

Week 6: (Apr 1 - Apr 7) Another challenge done and we're starting the fourth month of 2013. Have you done something nice and/or nourishing for yourself lately? Here's your week to do it! Treat yourself to a massage (get your SO to do it), mani/pedi (at home or a salon), buy the frilly panties you've had your eye on, get a new bathing suit to get excited/motivated for the summer - whatever makes YOU happy, DO IT! Tell us about your special treat to yourself and make sure you really enjoy whatever you choose.

On a parallel question - do we want to do an 'official' challenge next, or just keep this thread open and keep chatting/supporting each other on our health journeys? I'm leaning towards not doing official points tracking challenges since I stink at them, though I'd be open to having a 'challenge' goal each week. Thoughts?

Believe it or not I haven't caught up yet with all the threads - sorry.
I agree with you about not having an official challenge but would love having a challenge goal each week.

Hi.. I need some advice and this thread is the best place for it
I got the opportunity of good prices on 2 "lessons" with a "personal sport coach".. She seems nice and her presentation of her way of working things looks serious... I am very tempted to try in order to establish some basis on how to setup a correct workout and exercising plan.. but i suspect i will need more than 2 sessions to have something on the right track and it will cost me more than planned in the beginning
What do you think ? Even if i need more, would these 2 sessions be constructive enough ?

BN, I worked once with a personal trainer for like 6 months so I think I can comment on your question. I think the answer on whether or not its worth it will depend on what you want to get from the coach.

For two lessons, I'd be upfront with the coach and say this is all the lessons I'm planning to take, can you use these two lessons to teach me how to target my main areas of concern?

For me, I did get results working with the PT and I learned a lot, however the main benefit of a PT is that they push you beyond your comfort zone, which is not something you can easily do on your own. IT also helped to have the forced consistency - since I forced myself to go even when I didn't want to b/c I'd payed so much money.

On a different topic - I'm debating if I want to talk to Dh about making him my accountability partner... I think I could use someone to debrief daily on whats working and not working diet-wise and explore the reasons/solutions when I don't follow my diet plan (like today... Image). But worried that it might get awkward, I don't want to put him in a tough spot either Image

I think your DH as a work out partner would be a better idea....unless he is in need of a nutritional over-haul and you guys can do it together (plan meals and such) but I know that if in a weak moment I wanted to eat a snickers bar and my DH gave me the raised eye-brow look...i would probably want to punch him in the neck. but that's just me.

I mentioned my idea to Muffindad, but I also discussed all my frustrations with nutrition and finding out what is "off". Did NOT actually ask him to be my AP though because of exactly what you've all mentioned - that raised eyebrow. Though honestly I don't have to ask him, he automatically does it anyway b/c he's all worried about my health.

Weekend-wise had a fab weekend, we went to visit a friend at her farm (about an hr away) for a sleepover which was kind of a mini-vacation. And we had a lovely Easter dinner with the in-laws. But I'm looking forward to having an hr or so tonight to start researching/thinking where I want to go next in my health journey.

And I gotta get in some piano practice tonight... plus a quick lesson for Muffin!

Freaky.

I guess it was a good thing that I did my passover shopping late this year because there was nothing left for me to buy. Wound up with 2 boxes of matzo and used part of one box for matzagna. Did make matzo meal pancakes for breakfast and they were yummy.

So, it begs to ask:
