Stephenie Meyer on a Twilight Sequel & Fangirling

Dear LTTers,

Jimmy Jillikers! Have we got something special for YOU today!

I have no idea why I used my cheeseball voice, but I was totally in the mood.

Jumping right into what Fridays are for: To bombard you EVEN MORE about our interview with Stephenie Meyer. Yes, my friends, we aren’t done yet. In fact, these clips from today are some of my favorites!

Stephenie Breaks Down Breaking Dawn

And you thought the way we butcher Twilight by adding new characters with Mexican accents, making crude remarks about a wolf & a baby, being pretty descriptive about the things we really want to do to Edward Cullen and asking the really important questions (like what really happens with Bella gets her period) was bad- just wait until you hear what Stephenie really wanted to release because of the crazy demands of the fans for the end of her series:

SM BreakingDown by letterstotwilight

Haters get back! Stephenie’s the TRUE person “disrespecting” the saga! (But we’ll keep claim on our role of disrespecting Rob, nice and slowwwwww…..)

That’s right, we might fangirl over Rob & Taylor (I totally just wrote “Jacob” oops) who are famous because of characters she created, but Stephenie can fangirl too! In fact…. she might call herself “2nd-hand embarrassing.” However, since I’m friends with the girl who got a picture with Rob and I myself have worn a Christian Twilight Tshirt to Wal-mart, I think we can let the creator of Twilight’s fangirl moments slide:

SM FanGirl by letterstotwilight

(Sidenote: around :15 or :16, don’t you think you’re about to hear her say she wants to see Joshua Jackson naked? Yeah…. me too!)

The Twilight SEQUEL

Yes. We threatened to photoshop Stephenie’s skirt into a pair of jorts if she didn’t answer us on the who/what/when/where/how’s of a sequel/novella/continuation of the story we love sooooo much…. and instead of telling us “Yes, I’ll write you a personal story of Edward plus you, UC, then Edward plus you, Moon” like we really wanted, she let us in on why she created Nessie (cause she wanted that baby name and therefore the nickname to go viral, giving her much to laugh about as she “tricked” moms-to-be with a fake cute name) and tells a cute story about when she went to the theater to see New Moon. Yep: Stephenie is just like you & me! She goes into movie theaters. Also has dreams where Edward Cullen is created. That’s normal:

Don’t have time to listen to all the audio today? You fail at LTT fanship, but we understand. Listen to just one clip- I pulled out the New Moon story from the above audio just for you!

I love FRIDAYS!!!!!!!

PS: In my spare time blogging much less this week, I purchased & finished MockingJay– the 3rd book in the Hunger Game series. We talked about HG with Stephenie a bit before the tapes were turned on- she’s a major fan (and quoted on the back of the book!) and was counting the days until she got to crack it open (she said she probably wouldn’t get it until a week before it’s release) So, UC approves, Moon will approve (she just finished Water for Elephants, give her a break), and Stephenie approves- you should read it too!

Read, listen & see more from our interview with Stephenie!

Our internet game is ridiculous: LTR, The Forum, Twitter, The Store

  • A Nessie sequel would be fun. I can picture it now. Nessie’s POV…I wonder if I can make Jacob do…LOL! He did it!

  • Midnight_Cyn

OHhhh How I LOOOOOVEEE FRIDAYS!!! Now got to go back to “visit” with SM/UC/Moon… I am so smiley its ridiculous….

  • Midnight_Cyn

WAIT!!!!!!! STOP THE PRESSES (or whatever your doing) What is this…??? Its almost 9 a.m. and I am the FIRST comment??? OMELE…this can’t be right?? See this is what I was SO afraid of…”our family” isn’t here.. 🙁 ON A STEPHANIE DAY EVEN….ohhhh nooooo…

    • Bea

Whew, am here too… but just barely… the e-mails seem to be delayed in getting to me, good thing I decided to be obsessive and check for a post despite not getting a message saying there was one. Totally normal.

      • email alerts come between 1 & 3 hours after the post goes up (well, they are scheduled b/t 9-11 am ET, so if we post at 8 am, that stays true!)

    • The Old One

I’m here for you, Cyn, let’s hold virtual hands!

      • Midnight_Cyn

        Holding on Tightly!! xo

  • eatmyjorts

Psst, I’m here Cyn. Am at work, hence whispering. Can’t listen to the clips on this system…will have to wait for home time….in 3 hours. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. You can always get me on…XXX

    • Midnight_Cyn

      Loves you! xo

  • toooldforthis

Okay, I’ve given Stephenie a lot of sh*t since I read Breaking Dawn. But after listening to her in these clips, I think I want to be her BFF.

  • Midnight_Cyn

Okay this is a tragedy..EPIC Post & where is everyone??? UC we NEED to talk…I will volunteer to do WHATEVER (even met with Eddie *wink*) to help you and Moon keep this family together while lightening your load…how can I help, you just name it…

    • toooldforthis

I’m still sitting here stunned that SM could be awesome enough to come up with “Breaking Down”.

Edward backhands Bella? Haven’t we all wanted to do that a least once or twice (or ten times) while reading the series?

Charlie’s a meth addict? Bella trips and falls off the cliff after deciding she doesn’t want to kill herself?

I have a new found respect for SM.

    • Sj

*flapping arms* I’m here! But am ashamed to say missed Taylor Trash post on Wed. Devastated.

    • kristen’s bestie

      Hello! *waves*

I’m still checking every morning for a post. I’m not giving up!

    • operarose

      I check every morning, too!

We should have Twilight bingo or Twilight sudoku contests or something to pass the time in between posts…

P.S. I have no idea what sudoku is. even though it’s been trendy for like a decade.

      • Midnight_Cyn

I have no idea what that is either LOL…but I am up for anything that keeps us all together…forever… <3

      • P.S.

I checked at 7 am sharp (CST) – just didn’t want to be the first comment! Love the Stephanie Clips!

  • kristen’s bestie

Yeah! A post! will have to listen to the clips later -when I’m not at work.

But! I am in the midst of reading Mockingjay myself. About halfway through! Wish I had more time to read. And UC is right (duh!), if you haven’t read this series.. what are you waiting for? This was the book (Hunger Games)that got me out of my Twilight fog over two years ago.

    • Keisha

Word. I have like 8 half-finished books laying around since reading the Twilight series but I flew through Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. Too good to put down!

      • kristen’s bestie

So true! It’s not fair that you have finished! HA! I want you to tell me how it ends. No – don’t!

    • imnoddin

I can’t listen until later too, because I share an office.

I just finished Hunger Games on the recommendations here. I’ve got to get the next one now.

I still check here as soon as possible every day to see if there is a new post.

      • kristen’s bestie

You are lucky you are reading it now and don’t have to wait a year for the next one. Enjoy!

        • imnoddin

There are a few small benefits of being behind on everything 🙂

  • chochang

great clips as always! just wondering though.. why don’t we hear much from you UC? it’s always moon who’s asking/talking/giving comments/giggling.

  • Janetrigs

Yeeeaahhhh Fridays are Love. I’m on a train to a mini #leghitch reunion. Please be Jealous!

    • Midnight_Cyn

Oh yes I am wayyyy jealous..hate you..(not really but kinda) Have fun..but not too much..cause I be hatin you more….xo

    • Sj

      My green contacts are in.

    • HATE

    • Stacey

I hate/love that you are going to have a mini #leghitch reunion. Have fun!

    • Freya

Is it even legal to have a meeting without all the Espilce Accountability Partners? Remember, you can’t make any decisions. It’s not a quorum until we’re all there!

      Love you, Janet! Have fun!

  • babiesbrown

I always blow in and out, like the transient, alcoholic granddad on Talladega Nights, but I don’t miss Stephenie Days. Not sure I have time for all the the audio today, but I like to go back and listen on quieter weekend days.
*Off to listen to the New Moon clip*
Also, woot for UC & Moon, who are somehow able to draw a single afternoon out into how many blog posts now? 20? 50? Y’all would make dh’s depression-era grandma proud with your “making it last” ability.
P.S. Tx for commenting on my blog, Moon! You were my only comment. Still getting started with it.

    • What’s your blog?

      • Thanks for asking, NoCoolName!
        It’s here:
It’s not themed or anything, unless you count Babiesbrown-style snarkiness that comes into play almost every time I post.
Moon commented on my “Happy Birthdanniversary” post last week where I talked about the stuff I ordered from the LTT store and the mistake on dh’s Sparklepeen boxers.
I would be thrilled to have LTT/LTR readers read me when they have a chance. You ladies rock!
P.S. Don’t laugh at my everchanging templates. All the Blogger ones suck and I don’t know how to customize my own yet, so I changed it with my moods. XD

  • Sj

Nessie & Leah sequel! Please make Leah kill demon child Steph or I’ll totally hate it.

    • Sj

Awww, someone loves Nessie. Jacob, is that you out there?

  • twigirl_world

I didn’t know I could love SM anymore and then I listened to these clips.
And It may be a very embarrassing experience for me to meet her because I tend to be a very emotional person and even though I’m all grown up I may just be shaking and have a couple tears in my eyes just because of how sappy I am and because she’s given me Twilight and the hunger to read again.
Speaking of hunger, just finished Mockingjay myself. These books are def worth the read! I’m sad that the series is over.
But the fact that SM said if she got over her burnout there is a chance for a sequel that made up for HG being over. Just the hope is enough for me.

  • imnoddin

    UC & Moon,

Thanks for continuing to include links to past great posts. It really helps us “latecomers” who don’t have time to go back and read everything! Thanks again for all you do!

I’ll have to watch the clips from the Jay Leno show after work (as well as listen to todays audio clips).

  • SM was totally right – after Bella becomes a vamp, she is much less relateable (is that how you spell that??? relate-able?) Anyway, I had never formed that thought myself but once she pointed it out, I totally agree. Maybe that’s why BD is my least favorite book (I mean, least favorite of things of things I totally love). I definitely think that Nessie (oooh – that name) would be a good choice for continuing the story, should she decide to go there.

I mean, as long as she doesn’t waste her time (and OURS) on that other drivel she started writing (if you can even call it writing…have you guys read that thing? I mean, what a piece of…).

    • operarose

I think that’s exactly why Breaking Dawn is so divisive. If you like and/or can relate to the plot of the “homely teenage girl getting the hot guy in high school,” then Breaking Dawn has really moved away from that, and that premise is over. However, I’ve also heard feedback from people who liked Breaking Dawn more than the other books because it wasn’t as “teenagery” and was creative and more original with its focus on the fantasy elements.

      • So what does that say about me that I am apparently more into the high school romance premise than the cool fantasy vampire fight stuff?

Jeez, I wish I had thought of toooldforthis as a name for myself, because I most assuredly am.

I mean, I am definitely not pining for the high school days of yore – I am very satisfied with where I am in the continuum of my life. I don’t want to be Bella, or even replace my husband with Edward (ok, maybe just for a minute or two…). So what’s the deal?

I know this is a topic that has been addressed ad nauseam on this site, but, you know. Still knocking around in my brain occasionally.

        • Midnight_Cyn

I would ONLY replace my hubs for Eddie, not to be confused with Rob…and just for a day or two … 🙂 I’m just sayin..a mini vampacation…(at first I wrote vampaction and almost left it..tee hee) Yep you ladies have corrupted me… 🙂

        • operarose

Don’t worry, I hear you! I think, in brief, it’s all about the romance whether you were more into the high school love triangle or the passionate vampy supernatural stuff. I love the romance in these books. It may be spectacularly cheesy at times, but somehow it manages to be 500x more romantic than 99.9% of the other books in the world.

          • operarose

—So, in other words, it doesn’t say anything about you except for that you are a romantic at heart. Age is just a number baby. We can all enjoy a good romance story. 🙂 It doesn’t mean you want Edward instead of your husband (nor does it mean you can’t appreciate Edward anyways…) I think the deep appreciation for the overall romance of Twilight is just what makes us all normal.

And to tie this back into the topic of relating to Breaking Dawn vs. the rest of the books, I think they’re all romantic, just in different ways. Once we know Edward and Bella are together for eternity in Breaking Dawn, some of the magic of the first books is lost because we all know that drama is over, and the love story dynamic becomes different. It’s like in a TV series when two of the main characters finally become a couple, the series usually loses a great deal of their viewers and eventually is canceled, because that story arc has been concluded; the build up is over, the characters are together. (For some reason all I can think of is the show “The Nanny” – Fran and Mr. Sheffield!)

I think part of the problem with relating to Breaking Dawn for some was that the story arc of Bella and Edward’s love story, the “can or can they not be together forever,” was mostly concluded at the beginning of the book, and we were left with only a bit of lingering drama, and that lingering drama was so different than the drama in the rest of the series that it could be difficult to switch gears and sit through.

          • Replying to both your replies – YES. I agree. Thanks for articulating what I was incoherently thinking/feeling. You are always spot on!

  • ChillinWithCullens

    LOVE Friday SM posts!!

Also, LOVE the reference back to the Christian Twilight shirt – Moon you’re hilarious, and I’m so there (Avalon’s “Adonai” anyone? Church youth group represent!)

  • operarose

As per my tweet I loved the post today! Okay, I’ll admit, back in June when you were fresh off the interview, I wanted to know EVERYTHING, immediately, and was somewhat disgruntled that’s not what we got. However, now that we’re in late August (WTF, where did this summer go?!) and all of the Eclipse movie hoopla has died down, I am so glad we have these lovely little interview tidbits to enjoy and appreciate without all of the other Twilight distractions flying around.

Secondly, for the record, I want Stephenie to always do fan junkets, preferably with UC and Moon, and blow off the mainstream media from now on. I like how we get some of her perspective on everything from fangirling to the potential of Charlie to become a drug addict, instead of hearing her talk about what it’s like being a mom and a Mormon and what not. (Not that that’s not important…but it becomes ridiculous when the Today show asks her about that for the 1,000th time…)

Thirdly, also for the record, I never want to read about Nessie and Leah’s sequel. Ever. Especially not within the next year. I am not at all desperate to. (*ahem…that’s reverse psychology, people. cross your fingers.*) (And seriously, I love the idea of a Nessie/Leah sequel. Love it.)

    • kristen’s bestie

The idea of a Nessie/Leah sequel is the worst idea ever. It’s right up there with finishing Midnight Sun. I hope neither one ever happens. Ever. I mean Never.

    • The Old One

Fan junkets 4eva! Really, Stephenie must be ready to cutabitch next time some lame talk show host asks her about Edward’s fangs.

  • Stacey

Wow! More great interview! Stephenie you are a very cool lady. A Leah story would be great. She always felt unfinished to me.

Thanks again UC and Moon! Great post!

  • superhumanmoron

My mind wandered off at the thought of naked Joshua Jackson…

    • eatmyjorts

      Mmmmmmmm, Pacey Witter, mmmmmmmm

    • Stacey

I miss Pacey. I miss Dawson Creek. I might have to catch up on Fringe on NetFlixs. Oh Pacey you had me at questionable teacher/student relationship. Wait that was like Season 1. How do I remember that? Next quiz me on Felicity! #WB/CWnerd

  • MichaelSheenisaDILF

Even though I can’t listen to any of the clips, this post is serious WIN because it mentions some kind of Nessie/Leah sequel–don’t really care about Nessie, but Leah is a badass bitch that I kind of want to kiss/kill/be, AND you mentioned Mockingjay which I just finished. I find it interesting that in the wake of The Hunger Games being called “The Next Twilight Saga,” S Collins downplayed any romance with Peeta and just sort of tacked it on at the end. I think it’s rather smart of her, and maybe a little spiteful, because I don’t know about you, but with all the heavy stuff in the books about war and violence against children, I’d feel pretty shallow fangirl-fawning over Gale and Peeta (fictional characters or actors). Know what I’m sayin?

  • TeamJacobEdward

Loved the audio! That interview is like the gift that keeps on giving. I heart it hard because it makes me kind of feel like I’m there too.

Oh and I would love, love, love a book that takes life after Breaking Dawn! (hehehe Thinks about the awesomeness of Edward and Jacob’s, and/or Jacob and Nessie’s relationships… No? You’re saying she’ll probably not play it out like it did in my head? Hmmmm.)

Wait. No. I would HATE if Stephenie ever did a sequel to BD because there’s no way Stephenie would get it right, there’s no way she’ll pull it off. Just like Midday Sunshine or whatever that dumb unfinished book of Edward’s point of view is called. I would HATE if Stephenie finished that book. Hate it. Both of those ideas are like THE worst ideas I’ve ever heard. I also wouldn’t like Stephenie to go overboard and continue writing Edward’s point of view of all the books. Terrible idea.

*whispers to LTTers* Do you think it’s working yet?

    • *whispers back* If it doesn’t then I say we all go over and friggin’ TP her house!

      • TeamJacobEdward

Woohoo! That would be fun. Count me in!

I’ve only TP’d once. It was my sister’s house. My husband and I TP’d her house. How many people can say they went TPing with their husband? It was a blast.

    • P.S.

I would read a Leah/Rename-me sequel only if Edward was NOT in it! 😉

      • TeamJacobEdward

Unless Leah refers to Edward strictly as, “the redhead.” Then it’s okay if he’s in it.

(hitting sarcasm button incase it’s not obvious) 🙂

  • suzyquzy

I fell for the lnd ovestory of Bella and Edward. and
none of the books following Twilight changed my
feelings So when Breaking Dawn the movies are
    over so am I.

I really wish SM could just be satsfied with what she
has written and and not try to change things either with
influence in the movies or her interviews.

  • eatmyjorts

Well Stephenie, I think you pretty much achieved your goal of making everyone hate Breaking Dawn…I may have dubbed it Jumping Shark myself…but then, I never even read Twilight until last year after the whole entire saga was written & missed all the interim gossip/discussion/opinions you were subjected to. So what do I know? Actually I do know one thing- if you will please write & release Breaking Down somewhere/somehow (fanfic? By budding new author Stephany Major…) I will eat all my harsh harsh underinformed words about your literary baby. I won’t even call Renesmee (Rename-me has never been more apt) she-who-must-not-be-named any more. Promise.

Until then, thanks for Jacob. XXX

  • kitkat

Thanks ladies- yet another post that has my family asking “WHAT are you laughing at?!”

Though by now I can just say LTT and they leave me alone… 🙂

  • TeamJacobEdward

Oh! I’m reading Mockingjay too! Unfortunately I’m not done reading it yet!  If it were up to me I would have had that thing done the day it came out. But somehow work and husband and kids prevented that from happening. I’m about ½ way through. (If you haven’t picked up that series do it!)

The only thing I’m bummed about is that I didn’t re-read Hunger Games and Catching Fire immediately before Mockingjay came out because I’ve recently loaned them to a co-worker. So because of this I spent the first several chapters of Mockingjay trying figure out who the heck some of these people were (and still unclear about a couple). Did others find that too? Or was it just me? If it was just me, it’s from my head injury… that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

  • yertlesmom

Love that you gave us more of the Steph Stuff! Still so cool that you got to meet and talk to her!
I am also so glad that you are both catching up on your reading–The Hunger Games series is awsome!!!! Water for Elephants is a tease as you read it and picture Rob in each scene. Try BelAmi and do the same thing–ooh lala!

One more thing–I had the best birthday ever this week as my friends gave me a Twilight/Edward birthday party! So lame with an Edward cake, Edward card, Edward presents. Perfectly normal for an 40 something adult, right??? Right???? (Please say right–it was the most fun birthday I have had in a long time!)

    • P.S.

Okay, this is the first time I’ve ever said this, but – that’s normal!!!!!

    • shipstress

Jealous!! I want an Edward party for my 40th next year. Something tells me the hubby won’t be up for it… maybe he could at least get me an Edward lookalike stripper???

      • eatmyjorts

A Sparkly Stripper? There’s a niche market ripe for the exploiting! You could have an Edward alike & a Jacob alike & after the strippage they could have a dance off! Kerchingggggggg! Squillions await the genius who sets this up. And I want my cut…

        • yertlesmom

          Sparkly Stripper WIN!

SM’s so funny! I’m getting a little worked up. Shaking. Crying. But I don’t have the same ass I had when I was 17. NOT FAIR!

Anyhow…I can finally catch up on ALL the SM interviews because I can’t get audio/video at work.

ps-Can we please talk about if Greg Sestero is actually going to Garret? This is important. Especially if I’m going to play Kate. 😉

    • Sj

Garret? Who the hale is Garret? I’m going to need the next two years just to get all these knew vamps sorted out.

    • P.S.

Ooh, that’s totally how I pictured him. Niiiiice.

    • TeamJacobEdward

Holy hotness! When I saw that pic, I breathed the word, “hot,” involuntarily. Only it came out sounding like, “huuuh!” Wow.

How do I not recognize him from anything? Have I been living under a rock?

Oh, BTW, if he’s cast as Garrett, I’m calling every woman for herself for the casting of Kate cause I’ll fight for that role for sure. I will learn how to act or just fake it. 😉 Man, he’s better than my imagination of Garrett…. Um, TS if you manage to snag the Kate role, can you sneak me on set? 🙂

Excuse me, I’m going to go drool over that pic now…

  • Vera

Just for records: My twilight obsession is over. Edward belongs to Rob so that Midnight Sun will never come out, Do not give a damn where Jacob will stick his penis.

  • Cathy

This is kind of off topic, but I just wanted to say that thanks to LTT every time I watch the Eclipse “leg hitch” scene I can’t help but giggle because I picture David there directing the scene like, “Ok you two, this is VERY important. If you don’t get this right I’m going to be stoned to death by angry Twi-hards. You hitch that leg like no leg has been hitched before!”

    • TeamJacobEdward

      OMG! LMAO! Win!!

ROB: “Yeah we got it. Now stop talking, you’re kind of ruining the mood.”

DAVID: “No. I’m serious. DON’T eff this up or we’ll all be dead–don’t think they won’t be pissed at you too. I want those chicks hitter for you than CathyCougar was after watching you two go at it on Bella’s bed in Twilight.”

      • TeamJacobEdward

Grrrr, I hate my phone sometimes. “hotter” not “hitter”

      • JenloveRob

        Love it!

  • TeamJacobEdward

7:00 am (central) Monday and it’s still Friday’s post staring back at me.

    🙁 *sigh*

I hope this isn’t indicative of how my week is going to go…

  • TheRedHead

I agree TJE…I’m willing to give up weekend posts if I can get a Monday morning post. It’s like coming across a deer in the woods when what you really want is a mountain lion. ;o)

  • TeamJacobEdward

    Noooooooo! Not again!!!

The world has turned and left me here,
Just where I was before you appeared,
And in you’re place, and empty space…

        “Dear Alice…”

      • TeamJacobEdward

And screams into own pillow (= bad thing)

…Not to be confused with biting pillow (= very good thing)

        • Midnight_Cyn

TJE: I am SO with you..I have been writing “Alice emails” since the first mention of not posting everyday! I feel like time has stopped and the world is off kilter (sp?) I live in a Twilight zone (Rod Serling ref) anyway, no sense of time/space since my accident. My ONE constant was coming here EVERYDAY to start it off right, get my bearings, share some laughs and be with my friends. THIS is all wrong!!!! I mean I can see a post every other day, weekends off, but seriously…no change since FRIDAY! Its almost like Edward AND Jacob left Bella at the same time!
I am truly depressed and feel abandoned.
Ok enough self wallowing, I am going to post some Twi-news….Whatcha think about RPatz crashing the Emmy after parties….and SOLO…??? Ugghhh I suck at this..UC/MOON PLEASE..WE NEED YOU…

Maybe they just need a couple of weeks of hardly posting to recharge batteries, & then will post a bit more, we’ll see. Time to hold virtual hands again ladies…XXX

      • ChillinWithCullens

Right on, ladies! Sooo glad I’m not the only one feeling it. Couldn’t they post reader letters or something between their posts? It wouldn’t be the same but it would SOMETHING!

    • kitkat

I know. I didn’t get an email alert but I had to check. No pressure, UC and Moon, but I still had to check…

Yeah, they’ve decided to post a few times a week, given the time line until Breaking Dawn & the thought of posting daily until late 2012. That’s what they’re saying anyway. We KNOW that what’s really happening is the Moon is whiling away all the hours God sends Skyping with Dick, while UC is alternately fleeing being stalked by Mr Rathbone, & giving in to his wanton desires in many & various locations.

      • P.S.

yep, and today they decided to ‘both stay away together’ 🙁
