Thankful for Twilight and all it's done….

Dear Twilight,
It’s been a strange year to say the least. Although I often find myself focusing on the negative in my life, I really truly do have a lot for which I am thankful.

I am thankful that the first movie wasn’t so awful that it stopped me from later reading the books. Twilight was the first movie that I saw by myself, coincidentally over Thanksgiving weekend. The movie peaked my interest, so naturally I Wiki’d the plot of the books. LUCKILY, months later when I finally did read the series, I didn’t remember about the DEMON baby, cause well… who would start reading this series full well knowing there’s a DEMON baby involved?

I am thankful that after reading the series and seeing the movie again (appreciated it much more after having read the books), that I turned to the internet and stumbled across Letters To Twilight. If it was not for that faithful night, on 3/16/09 (YES, that’s the date I first found LTT and commented), when I read the aptly titled post: I’m gonna be nice today. UC and MOON articulated the random thoughts swirling around my head about the movies, the books, and the actors. It was kismet and I knew it.

Flash forward to present time and I can claim both UC and MOON as my real life friends (although I haven’t met Moonie yet). I’ve met several people from the fandom in person and have forged incredible friendships – we’ve even traveled together to tour the Pacific Northwest! I really don’t know what I would have done without these friends this year. I’ve also been fortunate to have met some hilarious and generous friends who regularly send me “Cullen smiles” and cards in the mail or fly in from Chili to visit! For some of my friends, I’ve only been able to keep an email/chat/phone relationship, but I know they care deeply about me and the feeling is mutual.
It’s amazing that at 29 years old, I’ve made so many remarkable friends in such a short period of time. These fantastic women have been my crutch when I could barely get through each day. I cannot adequately express how much they mean to me, how much I needed them, and how I will be forever grateful for their friendship.

So Twilight, I got really heavy there, especially since I’m writing to something that isn’t tangible, but I am thankful. Thankful that Stephenie Meyer decided to write down her dream and everything that has happened since.

Going broke for new moon,
Brooke

We love you Brookie! XO

Twilight Virgins say the darndest things

107-year-old-virgin-lrgDear Twilight sluts,

I love virgins. I get such a big kick out of people who have just or are currently experiencing their ‘first time.’ The way they talk; the way they’re all starry-eyed; the way they’re not jaded by the experience but still have hope for the purity & innocence of it- I just can’t get enough. It’s probably because it’s hard to remember when I lost my virginity- it seems to long ago.

I’ve been blessed to hold many a friend’s hand through the experience of losing her virginity. Of course I’m talking about losing her Twilight virginity. What did you think I meant? I introduced you to my friends UrbanGirl, ItalianGirl, Tex & PreggersPants back on this post [go, it’s brill] and I really thought it was over. I thought everyone in my life I could convince to read the series had done so. Turns out, Netta my cousin decided to hop on board and give her flower to Edward Cullen himself.

I really do love the innocence of a first time Twilight reader.  They don’t know the things we know- they may not know that Midnight Sun exists & probably aren’t yet pissed off at Stephenie for not finishing it. They probably have only seen the movie once or twice & haven’t yet realized, “This movie really kinda blows apart from Robert Pattinson & Buttcrack Santa.” They think they’re alone- oblivious to the MILLIONS of affected women out there. They call their other virgin friends and admit sheepishly,”I think I’m in love with a vampire,” not realizing the number of women throughout the world exclaiming, “That’s Normal!” And my favorite: They still refer to the actors & characters by their full names instead of Nik, KStew, Jack, Ash, Rob, etc. I recently received this e-mail from my cousin Netta:

Don’t tell anyone, but my friend Gretchen had a dream about kissing Edward Cullen.

First of all, sorry Gretchen, I just let your secret slip. But don’t worry. It’s only on my little blog. Secondly, thanks, Netta, for clarifying that it’s Edward Cullen she’s interested in kissing. At first I thought you meant Edward Scissorhands.

I want to rekindle that fire you once had for the series. I know it’s dwindling- don’t try to deny it. You’re over seeing pictures of Rob on the Remember Me set. You’re counting down the days until New Moon (126) and you wish that Stephenie would just write another damn book already! Today I have a gift for you in the form of texts I’ve compiled from my friends & family. [I’ve of course left you some necessary UC thoughts in brackets] After the jump, Read, recall & reminisce your first time…. Continue…

Breakin' all the rules – My First Time

Every ticket comes with a free pair of earplugs

Every ticket comes with a free pair of earplugs

Dear LTT folks-

When I first saw Twilight in the movie theaters, it was the Saturday (22nd) after it came out. I was trying to wait till I went home for Thanksgiving so I could beg my mom and cousin (lilcrazycow) to go with me. But I woke up that morning and couldn’t take it anymore, all I could think about was Twilight all day, every day. So I gave in and went by myself. This was before I knew about a million Twilight fans and my only other Twilight contact in LA was my coworker who first lent me the book. I showed up at the earliest screening expecting to sit in an empty theater by myself and have my personal Twilight moment.

Nope, WRONG! I was packed in with all the Twi-hards and the Twi-moms and everyone they dragged along. I knew the second the lights dimmed and people started screaming at every little thing: the title logo, the first time Bella was on screen, the first time the Cullens walk in, heck when ANY character walked in they screamed, I knew this thing called Twilight was something big.

I’m not gonna lie, the beginning was rocky for me… the dialogue seemed a bit flat, Kristen was boring to me, it felt rushed and it was getting awkward but then THIS happened…

and I knew that I would forever love this movie saga… however cheesy, and cheap it looked. I couldn’t resist Edward’s shit-eating grin or those ray bans, or how perfectly the song worked at that moment, or how I felt like I totally wanted to be Bella. Then he delivers the line “…breaking all the rules now anyway… since I’m going to hell…” and I was sold. I had broken all the rules of being a hip 20 something, I liked Twilight, I was about to start a blog about it and I didn’t care I was “going to hell” so might as well enjoy it.

And here we are now 4 months after the movie was released, a week after the DVD and now 8 months out from the next movie and I can’t help but think, what will that first time be like? What scene will be the one to grab me like this one did?

Only time will tell.

XO-
Themoonisdown

PS what was your first time (twilight screening*) like? What was the scene that hooked you for life?

*yea like how i had to qualify that?! i KNOW you people too well!!

Stuff guys say about Twilight – Mutemath & Buttcrack Santa

Bringing good music to the twi-masses

Bringing good music to the twi-masses

Dear MuteMath –

Your music is converting men to Twilight… well maybe not converting them but at least making them ask questions and spread the LTT/LTR love! Your song “Spotlight” is part of one of my favorite scenes in the movie. You know the part where Edward and Bella arrive at school and Angela says “Oh My God!” and boom! CUE MUSIC!? Yup, that’s it. Seriously, one of my favorite moments that I’m going to be writing about in the future… Breakin’ All the Rules! Below you’ll find a convo I had with a guy friend who will be called “mutemathlover*” in this post who found out I co-wrote this blog by accident but then sent it along to his boss/admin (what a good guy!) who is into Twilight and apparently very cool… well you’ll see… 😉

We love your music!
Themoonisdown

twilightsoundtrackmutemathlover: the spotlight remix is terrible but Clockwork and earlylight are good
mutemathlover: its so weird they ended up on the twilight soundtrack
themoonisdown: mutemath is like one of the authors FAVORITE bands, so not terribly surprised they were on there. and they got a big push from the movie
mutemathlover: well, they are my fav. so….i guess I should see the movie
mutemathlover: have you seen them live?
themoonisdown: yes! and you should see the movie but you need to see it with someone who KNOWS the books
mutemathlover: everyone who has read the books has seen it already. LADYBOSSFRIEND* is reading the incomplete book right now i forget what its called?
themoonisdown: midnight sun!!
mutemathlover:
ah, yea
themoonisdown
: whos LADYBOSSFRIEND?
mutemathlover:

themoonisdown: cause midnight sun is like in my top 2 of the saga even thought it’s not complete.  so good, send her to our sites!
mutemathlover: i did, she loves it. she shit out her lunch laughing over buttcrack santa. I had no idea what she was talking about. she called me laughing. i was like “buttcrack santa????? LADYBOSSFRIEND, what the hell are you taking about?”
